  • Army Man Dies In North Kashmir

    SRINAGAR: A soldier died at his camp in North Kashmir’s Kupwara after falling unconscious during his duty.

    Quoting official sources news agency KNT reported that Subedar Jitendra Kumar from 17 Gharwal in Chowkibal Kupwara fell unconscious at his Unit and was taken to the military hospital Drugmulla, where doctors declared him dead.

    The victim was a native of Uttarakhand. Police Post Drugmulla have started proceedings under section 174 Cr.PC in this regard.

    SRINAGAR: Police on Monday claimed to have destroyed a hideout and also arrested four militant associates of the Lashkar-i-Toiba outfit in south Kashmir’s Awantipora.

    In a tweet, The Kashmir Zone Police wrote, “Police along with security forces busted & destroyed terrorist hideout in Hafoo Nageenpora forests of Awantipora. 04 militant associates linked with terror outfit LeT arrested. Incriminating materials & other items recovered. Case registered, investigation in progress”.

    2 Houses Damaged After Chinar Tree Branch Falls On Them

    SRINAGAR: Two residential houses were damaged in Mohura Uri after a branch of Chinar tree fell on them amid snowfall in the area in Baramulla district of north Kashmir on Monday, officials said.

    The houses, they said, belong to Ghulma Hussan Khan son of Ghulam Mohammad Khan and Janghir Ahmed Khan son of Ghulam Hassan Khan.

    Later a team of the Revenue Department reached the spot and assessed the estimated loss to the property.

    Quoting an official of the local administration news agency GNS reported that there was fortunately no loss of life or injury in the incident.

    “The inmates of the house came out in time and fortunately every one of them is safe.”

    5 employees of RDD suspended for unauthorized absence

    KULGAM, Jan 30: On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, a team of officers headed by ACD Kulgam, Mohammad Imran inspected several offices of Rural Development Department in Kulgam.

    During the inspection, 5 employees were found unauthorisedly absent from their duties at DK Marg block and were placed under suspension with immediate effect.

    Moreover, ACD stressed on 100 percent attendance at all offices of Rural Development Department Kulgam and directed all employees to attend their duties regularly in letter and spirit.

    He warned that strict action as warranted under rules shall be taken against employees for their unauthorized absence from duties.

    7 Cattle Charred Alive, Residential House Damaged in Separate Fire Mishaps

    SRINAGAR: At least seven cattle were charred to death and a residential house damaged in separate fire mishaps in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

    Reports said that a fire broke out in a cow shed, belonging to one Abdul Ahad Malla, at Hak’daji Shiekh Pora in Mawar Qalamabad on intervening Sunday and Monday night.

    The fire incident resulted in charring to death of seven cattle, including two cows and 5 goats even as gutting the cow shed in entirety.

    Station House Officer Qalamabad, Jan Mohammad confirming the incident told news agency GNS that the cause of fire is believed to be heating device (Bukhari).

    “There was no injury or loss of human life in the incident”, the officer further said.

    In a separate incident, a residential house was damaged in a fire mishap in Haihama in Kupwara district this morning.

    As per reports, a residential house belonging to one Wali Mohammad Dar, son of Noor Mohammad Dar was damaged at Dar Mohammad Chalgund in Haihama.

    The fire was contained by the locals as Fire and Emergency Department didn’t reached the site on time.

    SRINAGAR: A tanker driver died in a road accident near Kawbagh in Ramban district on Monday early morning, officials said here.

    Quoting an official the news agency KNO reported that the tanker that was on way from Jammu towards Srinagar met with an accident near Kawbagh this morning.

    He said driver identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad son of Abdul Qayoum Wani, of Wagan Banihal was seriously injured in the accident and later succumb at a hospital.

    The official said police have taken cognizance of the incident.

    SRINAGAR: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra enjoined snowfall at Congress headquarters here on Monday, the day marking the end of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

    The siblings were seen playing with snow, throwing it on each other to express their joy, eyewitnesses told GNS.

    Earlier, Rahul Gandhi also unfurled the tricolor flag at the Congress headquarters in Srinagar. He ended his over 4,000 km march, covering 12 states over a span of five months.

    The Congress party is set for a show of Opposition unity, having extended invitations to 21 political parties for its rally at the Sher-e-Kashmir stadium here later today. The party said Congress president Mallikarjum Kharge will unveil a memorial for the BJY.
