    No flight operation amid snowfall, low visibility in Kashmir

    Srinagar, Feb 11: Air travel to and fro Srinagar International Airport was hit due to snowfall this morning as authorities diverted a few flights owing to reduced visibility on Saturday.

    A senior airport officer told GNS that visibility has reduced to 500 M while it was continuously snowing. “No flight operations have taken place since morning,” he said, adding, “We are waiting for weather to improve.”

    Already a few flights expected to arrive at the airport had to be diverted to New Delhi or Amritsar, he said. (GNS)

    Post Office Savings Schemes:​​Salient features

      • (i)a single adult
        (ii)two adults only (Joint A or Joint B)
        (iii)a guardian on behalf of minor
        (iv)a guardian on behalf of person of unsound mind ​
        (iv)a minor above 10 years in his own name
      • Only one account can be opened by an individual as a single account
      • Only one account can be opened in the name of minor/above 10 years of age (self)/person of unsound mind
      • In case of death of a Joint holder, the surviving holder will be the sole holder, if surviving holder already has single account in his/her name, Joint account have to be closed
      • Conversion of single to joint account or vice versa is not allowed
      • Nomination is mandatory at the time of opening of account
      • Minor after attaining majority has to submit fresh account opening form and KYC documents of his/her name at concerned Post Office for conversion of the in his/her name

    Post Office Savings Schemes: Deposit and Withdrawal​: – 

      • All deposits/ withdrawals shall be in whole rupees only.
        (i) Minimum deposit amount: – Rs. 500 (subsequent deposit not less than 10 rupees)
        (ii) Minimum withdrawal amount: – Rs. 50
        (ii)Maximum deposit: – No maximum limit
        (iii)No withdrawal will be permitted which effect reducing of minimum balance Rs. 500
        (iv) In case account balance not raised to Rs. 500 at the end of financial year Rs. 50 will be deducted as Account Maintenance Fee and if account balance became Nil the account shall stands automatically closed

    Post Office Savings Schemes: Interest:-

      • (i)Interest will be calculated on the basis of minimum balance between 10th of the month and end of the month and allowed in whole rupees only
        (ii)No interest will be allowed in a month if balance between 10th and last day of the month falls below Rs. 500
        (iii)Interest shall be credited in account at the end of each Financial Year at the interest rate prescribed by Ministry of Finance
        (iv)At the time of closure of account, interest will be paid up to the preceding month in which account is closed
        (iv)u/s 80TTA of the Income Tax Act, from all Savings Bank Accounts, interest up to Rs. 10,000 earned in a Financial Year is exempted from taxable Income

    Post Office Savings Schemes: Silent Account: –

      • (i)If no deposit/withdrawal takes place in an account during continuous three financial years, the account shall be treated as silent/dormant
        (ii)Revival of such account can be done by submitting application along with fresh KYC documents and passbook at concerned Post Office

    Post Office Savings Schemes: ePassbook for POSB schemes

    The Department of Posts (DOP) through the Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) provides various types of accounts as an avenue to the citizens to save and invest their money. The account holders of these schemes are provided a physical passbook into which entries of the transactions are made. To further enhance the convenience of the account holders, the DoP has launched ePassbook feature for the account holders of POSB schemes. ePassbook is a feature providing the following services through an online webpage –

    1. Balance enquiry
    2. Mini statement
    3. Full statement

    Following is the workflow for the same in brief –

    1. After OTP validation, the webpage will provide the option of accessing the ePassbook.
    2. The customer will have to select the scheme and enter the relevant account details.
    3. Another OTP validation will be done after which the customer will have to select the required service i.e Balance Enquiry or Mini Statement.
    4. Based on the service chosen, either the balance will be displayed or the mini statement will be displayed.
    5. The mini statement can also be downloaded if needed.

    The following steps can enable you to easily apply for a post office saving scheme:4

    • Step 2: Get the form to open the relevant account from the post office. However, you can also download the form online from the official portal of the Indian Post Office.
    • Step 3: Fill in the form with the needed details and submit it along with the KYC proof. You will also have to give other documents as required.
    • Step 4: Finish the process of enrolment by depositing the amount of the scheme you chose.

    FAQs On Banking

      1. How can I claim payment of deceased account / certificate holder?

        The claim can be settled by three modes

        Nomination :-Submit nomination claim form with Death Certificate with KYC documents

          1. Legal evidence (Probate of will, Letter of administration, Succession certificate) :- Submit Claim Form, Legal evidence and Death certificate with KYC documents.
          2. Without nomination ( up to 5 Lakh ) :- Submit claim form, death certificate, Annexure-I (Letter of Indemnity) , Annexure-II(Affidavit)  and Annexure III (Letter of disclaimer of affidavit)  with KYC documents of   claimant,deponents,  witnesses, sureties etc.Note:-
            1. If there is no nomination and deposit value at the date of death is above Rs. 5 Lakh , claim can be settled only through Succession Certificate.
            2.  Claim in case of without nomination (up to 5 lakh) can be settled after 6 month of death of the depositor.​
      2. ​How to transfer accounts and certificate?

        For transfer of accounts/certificate- the depositor should apply in the prescribed form SB 10(B)/NC-32 with Passbook and KYC documents. The transfer application can be given either in transferring office or transferee office. However the transfer process will be done by respective Head Post Offices.

      1. How to open an account in post office and its requirements?

        To open an account in Small Savings Schemes viz Savings Account (SB), Recurring Deposit (RD), Time Deposit (TD), Monthly Income Scheme (MIS), Senior Citizen Savings Scheme (SCSS)submit Account Opening Form (AOF) duly filled in with KYC documents and deposit slip(SB 103) in desired Post Office.

      2. What is silent account and how to revive it?

        An account in which a deposit or withdrawal has not taken place for three complete Financial Years, shall be treated as silent account.

        For revival, one application from  the customer with KYC documents is required. Respective HO will revive the accounts.​

      3. ​What are late payment fees for recurring deposits?The monthly deposits for account opened between 1 to 15 should be credited  up to 15th of the month and account opened between 16 to the last of the month monthly deposit should be credited by last day of the month. If the monthly installment is not credited for any particular month, then it becomes a default. The defaulted months can be credited subsequently (revival fee for INR. 100/- denomination is Re. 1  for each month of default) maximum 4 defaults are allowed.
      4. What is the procedure for the issue of duplicate certificates?

        The investor should apply in the prescribed form for duplicate certificate in respect of lost, stolen, destroyed, mutilated or defaced certificates (NC-29).
        The application shall be accompanied by a statement showing particulars of certificates and furnish an indemnity bond in the prescribed form with one or more sureties or with a bank guarantee.

        In case of mutilated or defaced certificates, no indemnity bond is required. The duplicate certificate will be issued in the form of Passbook from respective HO.

      5. How I get duplicate passbook?

        Application in the prescribed form or manuscript application may be given. A prescribed fee for issue of duplicate passbook to be paid.  New duplicated Passbook will be issued by respective Head Post Offices.

      6. What are the norms for issuing a Cheque Books?

        Cheque books are issued in respect of Post Office Savings Account.  Minimum balance to be maintained in respective Post Office Savings Account should be Rs. 500.​

      7. What are the service charges for outstations Cheque?

        Cheque realization charges for outstation Cheque.
        INR. 30/- for first thousand or part
        INR. 3/- for each additional thousand or part
        In case of bouncing of Cheque INR. 50/- is charges as service charge.

      8. Can Monthly Income Scheme (MIS) interest be credited to RecurringDeposit (RD) account?

        No. There is no provision. MISInterest amount can be credited to SB account and Standing  Instruction can be given for credit into RD from SB. A prescribed application form to be submitted to respective Post Office.

      9. What is the minimum balance required for an account?

        Minimum balance in respect of different types of Small Savings Accounts is given below.

  • Govt To Give Rs 2.5 Lakh Incentive For Every Inter-Caste Marriage Involving A Dalit

    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Government has unveiled a scheme to give Rs. 2.5 lakh to inter-caste marriages involving a dalit.

    The scheme has been unveiled after the Administrative Council gave a go-ahead for the same. The scheme has been framed for implementation of the Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1995 and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities), Act 1989.

    To avail benefits of the scheme, one of the spouses in the inter-marriage caste should belong to Schedule Caste community as mentioned under Scheduled Caste List (out of 13 Castes) specified in the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950 for J&K and the other is a non-Scheduled Caste Hindu.

    As per guidelines of the scheme, the marriage should be valid as per the law and duly registered under the Hindu Marriage Act 1955 and a registration certificate to this effect issued by the competent authority must be furnished by the beneficiaries.

    The case for assistance shall only be valid if submitted strictly within six months from the date of marriage, as indicated on the marriage registration certificate produced at the time of submission of application.

    The total amount of incentive will be released to the eligible couple in a single installment through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode to the joint account of the couple in any government/nationalized bank in the form of fixed deposit (FD) with a lock-in period of three years.

    SRINAGAR: The 3rd edition of Khelo India National Winter Games began at Gulmarg with the message by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the participating players.

    The mega sports event was declared open in the presence of Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha and Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and I&B, Anurag Thakur.

    During the biggest winter sports tournament, more than 1500 Athletes from all over the country will compete in 11 different winter-sports disciplines.

    Union Sports Minister, Anurag Thakur lauded the J&K Government for developing sports facilities at grassroot level and achieving unprecedented progress in the sports sector in a short span of time.

    What Jammu and Kashmir has done in the world of sports in just three years is a matter of great pride. Indoor stadiums have been built in every district and every village has a playground. Where once there used to be incidents of stone pelting, today football, wushu and various sports are played there. This is the picture of new Jammu Kashmir, he added.

    The Union Minister assured full support and cooperation in developing Center of Excellence for Winter Games in the UT.

    It is the vision of PM Narendra Modi ji to create sporting infrastructure across India. The setting up of a National Centre of Excellence in the valley will support the athletes of J&K, he said.

    In his address, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha said, Narendra Modi’s message and blessings to the players participating in 3rd Khelo India National Winter Games will encourage & inspire them.

    Khelo India Winter Games will celebrate & honour sporting excellence and witness the contests of skill and endurance of athletes. It is a great occasion to strive for the greatest victory, to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship, peace, equality, friendship & respect for the competitors. The spirit of oneness, Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat will make us stronger, the Lt Governor said.

    “The entire country at the moment is united by the 3rd Winter Games dream. Each player participating will become the best ambassador of J&K. With the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, this sporting spectacle will strengthen the bond of goodwill & unite all the players as one family,” the Lt Governor said.

    On behalf of the people of J&K, the Lt Governor welcomed the players, officials and sports enthusiasts and invited all the guests, who have come from every corner of the country to enjoy J&K’s hospitality, to enjoy the games and to enjoy the incredible sights and sounds of Jammu Kashmir.

    The Lt Governor also highlighted the transformation in J&K’s sporting culture under the leadership of  Prime Minister.

    In the past few years, J&K has given many sporting heroes to the country. Continuous efforts of the UT Government in developing world-class sports infrastructure and facilities in every nook & corner of UT, vibrant sports culture & sports budget at par with bigger states have added a new dimension to J&K’s Sports sector, said the Lt Governor.

    Welfare of sportspersons is our priority. Special efforts are being made to ensure dignified life for our sportspersons and to encourage youth to choose sports as a career. The participation of more than 50 lakh youth in various sporting events last year is a testimony to this commitment, he added.

    With the help of Union Sports Ministry we will work for establishing Center of Excellence for Winter Games. The location has already been identified. All efforts are being made to provide opportunities to sportspersons to excel in their career, the Lt Governor noted.

    On the occasion, Lt Governor and Union Sports Minister e-launched 40 Khelo India Centres across Jammu Kashmir. The Centres have been dedicated to all the budding sportspersons of J&K UT.

    Srinagar, Feb 10 (GNS): The government on Friday ordered transfer of 15 officers, seven of them IAS, in the interest of administration with immediate effect.

    According to a government order, a copy of which lies with GNS, Dheeraj Gupta, IAS (AGMUT: 1993), Principal Secretary to the Government, Housing and Urban Development Department, holding additional charge of smart Cities and proposed new Jammu/Srinagar Metropolitan Regional Development, has been transferred and posted as Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment.

  • Teacher Arrested For ‘Misbehaving’ With Girl Students

    SRINAGAR: A Government teacher, posted in Middle School Dhargaloon in Balakote zone of Mendhar sub division of Poonch district, has been arrested by police for allegedly molesting and misbehaving with two girl students of his school.

    Pertinently, the teacher has also been placed under suspension by the education department.

    The teacher identified as Mohammad Taj Nayazi has been booked in a case under FIR number 10/2023 under sections 354, 8/10 POCSO Act in Police Station Gursai.

    Quoting police officials the news agency KNO reported that a complaint was registered in Gursai police station in which it was submitted that the teacher had molested and misbehaved with two minor girl students of the school after which a case was registered against him and was subsequently arrested.

    They said that further investigation into the matter is going on.

    The teacher has already been suspended by Zonal Education Officer Balakote, who also visited the school after the incident.

    Poonch, Feb 10(GNS): Three members of a family were injuries after their house caught fire last night in Poonch district, officials said on Friday.

    Officials told GNS that yesterday around 10:30 p.m., house of Mohammad Akram son of Sadar Din resident of Arai Village caught fire. Subsequently there was also a cylinder blast which amplified the fire. Three members of the family sustained burnt injured and were shifted to district hospital Poonch for further treatment. They have been identified as Imer Din, his wife Zaytoon Akhter and Saleema Akhter wife of Mohammad Akram.

    Soon after the incident a joint team of Police, army and firefighters reached the spot and the fire was brought under control, they said.

    Meanwhile, a police officer told GNS that investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the fire.(GNS)

    Srinagar, Feb 10 (GNS): JKHPMC has started the process of developing Shopian as an ‘Apple Cluster’, recently approved by Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW) at an estimated cost of Rs. 138 crores, under Cluster Development Programme (CDP).

    The letter of acceptance this regard has been issued by the Ministry in favour of JKHPMC with M/s FIL Industries Limited, as the implementing Agency with technical support by National Horticulture Board’s (NHB).

    In this regard, the NHB’s team from New Delhi were on  two-day visit to Srinagar and Shopian on 9th and 10th February, 2023 for finalizing the components to be set up by FIL Industries in the Apple Cluster, under the programme.

    The team of HMB comprising Joint Director, NHB, R.K Agarwal; Dy. Director NHB (J&K Chapter), Sansar Ahmad and other officers held a joint meeting  with JKHPMC officers and  representatives of FIL industries  for finalizing the components.

    The team alongwith officers of JKHPMC, during the visit, also visited Shopian  and called on Deputy Commissioner Shopian and apprised him about the land required for developing nurseries in the Shopian Cluster. During the interaction, DC Shopian expressed satisfaction over the programme and assured JKHPMC that the district would make available the required land banks for the optimum implementation of the programme.

    The NHB team also visited FIL Industries facilities at Rangreth, Srinagar and assessed the requirements under the CDP.

    Pertinently, the programme has to be executed with respect to three end to end verticals, viz; Pre-production & production, post production & value addition and logistics & marketing in a span of four years.(GNS)
