  • Srinagar-Jammu Highway Blocked Due To Shooting Stones

    SRINAGAR: The Jammu-Srinagar National highway has been closed for vehicular traffic due to shooting stones at Mehar-Cafeteria in Ramban, officials said on Wednesday.

    “Jammu-Srinagar (NH-44) blocked at Cafeteria, Mehar, Ramban due to shooting stones” Jammu and Kashmir Traffic police in a tweet said.

    The highway is the lifeline of the Kashmir and the main road link connecting valley with the rest of the country.

    Kashmir bound trucks laden with essential supplies and other vehicles pass through the highway and fruit carrying trucks from the valley head for rest of the country through this road.

    Jammu & Kashmir: Final Seniority List Of 1090 Masters/Teachers- Download PDF Below

    Whereas, final seniority list of PG Masters/Teachers in the
    discipline of History as on 01.07.2020 was issued vide Government Order No. 221-Edu of 2020 dated 15.09.2020; and

    Whereas, a tentative seniority list was issued in the discipline
    vide notice dated 17.10.2022, for inviting objections from members of the
    cadre who either is/are not included in the list or is/are aggrieved with the
    position assigned to them in the tentative seniority list; and; and

    Whereas, after notifying the said seniority list, Directorates of
    School Education Jammu/Kashmir have forwarded the service particulars of
    some more PG Masters/Teachers in the said discipline for correction/inclusion of their names in the seniority list, and

    Whereas, the matter has been examined and all the necessary
    inclusions/corrections/deletions have been made on the subject and a
    consolidated final seniority list has been prepared forming Annexure-A to this order; and

    Whereas, the inclusion of officials who have acquired their PG
    Degree during service period is provisional and subject to grant of permission leave at the relevant point of time by the Competent Authority; and

    Whereas, those officials who have obtained their degrees
    through distance mode are included in the final seniority list on provisional
    basis subject to the fulfillment of conditions as laid down in Government Order No. 252-HE of 2012, dated 30.05.2012 and departmental specific mechanism notified by the School Education Department vide Government Order No. 940- Edu of 2017, dated 17.11.2017; and

    Now, therefore, in terms of Rule-24 of J&K Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956, the final seniority list in respect of PG Masters/Teachers in the discipline of History, as per Annexure A to this order, is hereby issued, subject to the conditions that:

    • The date of birth of the incumbents recorded in the seniority list is
      subject to further verification from service records, also with reference
    • To the original matriculation certificates of all the concerned, and
      The seniority list so issued will be subject to outcome of writ petition(s)
      pending, if any, before any Hon’ble Court of Law.

    Further, if any member of the service is aggrieved with the position assigned to him/her in the final seniority list, he/she can file a review petition within 07 days from the date of issuance of this final seniority list along with supporting documents, through concerned Directorates which will be decided on case to case basis. No petition shall be entertained after the expiry of stipulated time period.

  • Chowkibal-Tangdar Road Reopens For Traffic After 9 Days

    SRINAGAR: The Chowkibal-Tangdar road re-opened for vehicular movement, on Tuesday, after remaining closed for nearly 9 days due to heavy snowfall and avalanche threat at Sadhna Top.

    The BEACON authorities made hectic efforts by using its men and machinery to open this road and cleared about 10 feet of fresh and accumulated snow.

    Vehicles carrying essential commodities,   fresh vegetables were allowed to ply from Chowkibal to Tangdar today.

    Drivers have been advised to use anti-skid chains to avoid any untoward incident.

    The District Administration appreciated the efforts of Beacon authorities and other stakeholders for their timely efforts.

    New Highways To Reduce Travel Time Across Districts, Divisions Drastically: CS

    SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta on Tuesday exuded hope that in near future the travel time across different Districts and Divisions of J&K would get drastically reduced with the completion of different National Highway projects currently at different stages of execution.

    Dr Mehta made these remarks in a meeting with different stakeholders called for reviewing the progress of land acquisition and other issues pertaining to construction of a number of National Highways across the UT

    In addition to the Principal Secretary, PWD the meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Forest; Principal Secretary, PDD; Divisional Commissioners; Secretary, Revenue; concerned Deputy Commissioners, Director, representatives from NHAI, NHIDCL, BRO, and many other concerned officers.

    Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary stressed upon the executing agencies to complete all these road projects providing enhanced connectivity to different regions in a fixed timeframe. He enjoined upon them that the significance of these roads is eminent and deserves all efforts to be made to complete them on time.

    He directed the Deputy Commissioners to facilitate the executing agencies in performing their work smoothly. He observed that these highways are directly linked with the economic upliftment of people as the trade and commerce would also see growth by enhanced movement of people. He pointed out that tourism sector is going to be the biggest gainer by their completion.

    Dr Mehta enquired from the executing agencies about the bottlenecks affecting the pace of their work. He instantly passed on directions to the concerned government departments for taking the measures to address them. He made out that both the executing agencies and different government departments should work in coordination with each other and held regular deliberations for resolving issues without wasting time. He asked them to own these significant national projects and show eagerness in seeing them completed well on time. He fixed timelines for each of the road project for its completion.

    The Principal Secretary, PWD, Shailendra Kumar provided details of progress made so far in constructing different National Highways. He also informed the meeting about the nature of issues confronted in implementation of these projects. He assured the executing agencies of unhindered support from his department and about different steps taken by PWD in coordinated redressal of the pending issues. He also highlighted several guidelines of MORTH for seeking approvals and advised the DCs to observe these while making the land acquisitions for these projects.

    It was given in the meeting that the Jammu-Akhnoor Highway would be opened in a phased manner for the ease of public. It was revealed that in next 15 days the  30 km stretch would be opened as per the directions of Chief Secretary and by May 15 the remaining stretch would be finished reducing the travel time to just about half an hour to reach Akhnoor. The work on the beautification of the Flyover and parking underneath is also going to be taken in hand shortly, as was added in the meeting.

    Similarly regarding the Srinagar-Baramulla-Uri Highway it was apprised that the land acquisition process is going on smoothly and large stretches of land already been compensated. It was also given out that the process of construction of Bye-passes to Pattan, Baramulla and Uri towns is being expedited with a Fly over near Sangrama town. The Executing agency was told to take work in hand on the stretches handed over to it by the district administration.

    Moreover the Bye-passes for the important towns of Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian were also deliberated upon in length for their early completion under the National Highway project of Srinagar-Pulwama-Shopian-Kulgam(NH-444). The travel time by completion of this highway would be half as that taken at present. The extension of this Road to the tourist destinations of Yousmarg-Doodhpathri in district Budgam came also under discussion and its early completion.

    Regarding the Katra-Amritsar-Delhi Expressway it was said that the shifting of some religious structures and commercial establishments is in final stage in district Jammu. In addition the Srinagar Ring Road, Akhnoor-Poonch Road were also discussed. The issues faced were sought resolution for and the concerned directed to work earnestly for making these projects end with desired outcomes as laid for each of them.

    Srinagar, Feb 14 (GNS): After opening for single-way traffic at 10 a.m. following nightlong closure, the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir valley with the outside world, was again closed due to shooting stones in Rambagh.

    “Shooting stones continued for the entire day as we struggled to clear the stranded vehicles. We even tried to allow them on one to one basis but shooting stones did not provide breathing space,” Mohita Sharma, SSP Traffic Highway, said. “LMVs are advised not to travel at night as it is unsafe amidst shooting stones,” she said as per GNS.

    A traffic department official told GNS that there was no let up in shooting stones at Mehar-Cafeteria in Ramban. He said that subject to fair weather and road clearance, both way traffic shall be allowed on the thoroughfare. He, however, said that people should contact traffic control units before starting travel on the highway. (GNS)

    Only Local 37 Militants Active In Kashmir, Most Of Them New Recruits: ADGP  

    Pulwama, Feb 14 (GNS): There has been “remarkable” improvement in the security scenario post abrogation of Article 370 Jammu and Kashmir, a senior CRPF official said on the fourth anniversary Pulwama attack in which 40 personnel of the paramilitary force were killed.

    A wreath-laying ceremony by CRPF was organised at CRPF Martyrs Memorial at Lethpora,Pulwama to remember those killed on 14th Feb 2019.

    Talking to the media persons on the occasion,  M.S Bhatia, IG Kashmir Ops Sector said that the nation will always remain indebted to the soldiers who “valiantly fought and laid down their lives to safeguard the sovereignty and integrity of our country.”

    He said that there has been remarkable improvement in the security scenario post abrogation of Article 370. “There has been remarkable improvement also challenges being faced in recent times and the numerous successes that have been achieved by CRPF against (militants) including demolition of the (militant) ecosystem,” he said as per GNS.  

    He also briefed media persons about the various steps that have been undertaken for strengthening the security grid, ROP and convoy management, operational synergy between the Security Forces, modernisation of CRPF, leveraging of technology and use of other force multipliers to prevent attacks on forces and carry out a relentless offensive against the militant ecosystem.

    Talking to reporters on the occasion, Additional Director General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar, said that 15 out of the 19 militants involved in the Pulwama attack have been either been killed or arrested. “Four are still at large and of them, three of them are Pakistanis, including Masood Azhar (Jaish-e-Mohammed chief),” he said.

    He said 37 local militants were active in the Kashmir Valley. But of them, he said, only two have been active for more than two or three months. ‘Farooq Nali and Riyaz Chatri’, he said, are old. Rest of them joined militant ranks recently, he said

    “In the last three years, the (Jaish-e-Mohammed) has been wiped out. Only seven to eight (militants) are active,” he said, adding, “At least five of them are foreign (militants) in which Musa Sulaimani is active in Kulgam district. We will get him soon.” (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: Following a fifty days of winter vacations, Colleges in winter zones in Jammu and Kashmir are all set to resume academics from Wednesday.

    In December-2022, the Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department announced winter vacations for all government degree Colleges of Jammu and Kashmir.

    According to the news agency KNO, the Higher Education Department in an order had said that the degree Colleges falling in Kashmir and the winter zones of the Jammu division will observe winter vacation from December 27 to February 14-2023.

    It had also said that the degree Colleges falling in the summer zone of the Jammu division shall observe the vacation from January-1 to January-10-2023

    Srinagar, Feb 14: All India Congress Committee (AICC) leader and party’s former president, Rahul Gandhi would likely arrive in Gulmarg tomorrow (Wednesday) on a personal visit.

    His arrival will come just two weeks after he concluded his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar on January 30 in which the leaders from different political parties participated at SK Stadium here.

    Rahul walked over 4000 kilometres to conclude his Bharat Jodo Yatra last month in Srinagar with his concluding speech, wherein he mentioned that Kashmir is another home for him.

    Sources privy to the development told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Gandhi will arrive at Gulmarg tomorrow where he is going to spend some days.

    A senior leader from Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) said that Rahul Gandhi usually visits foreign countries on the eve of New Year but due to his busy schedule this year in view of Bharat Jodo Yatra, he couldn’t visit anywhere.

    He said that although there is no official confirmation but it is being said that the AICC leader has now decided to visit Gulmarg for some days tomorrow—(KNO)
