    Man Sentenced To Six Months Jail, Rs 8 Lakh Fine In cheque Bounce Case

    SRINAGAR: A local court in the Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district sentenced a man to six months of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs eight Lakh in a cheque bounce case.

    An official said that Judicial Magistrate Ist Class Sopore sentenced the man to six months simple imprisonment in a cheque bounce case and also imposed a penalty of Rs 800000.

    The accused has been identified as Ghulam Mohiddin War son of Hayaat War Of Warpora Sopore

    He was sentenced to six months jail after he was found guilty of the commission of an offense under section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act.

    “A fine of Rs 8,00,000 which is double the cheque amount was also imposed on him,” the official said—(KS)

    SRINAGAR: A Special Police Officer (SPO) was arrested today in Doda district for his alleged involvement in drug peddling, according to officials.

    The SPO, identified as Javed Ahmed, was dismissed from service and attached with the District Police Lines. Reliable sources had informed the police that he was engaged in illegal narcotics trade, leading to his apprehension with cannabis in his possession.

    A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act was registered against him at Doda Police Station, and an enquiry was initiated against him by the department for service misconduct. The investigation conducted by the department proved beyond doubt that he was involved in the illegal trade of charas, and his services have been disengaged.

    The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abdul Qayoom has appealed to the general public for cooperation in eradicating the menace of drugs from society. He also warned that any employee of the civil or Police Department found engaged in narcotics trade will not be spared.

    Says upcoming G 20 event would position J&K tourism on a global platform

    Srinagar, May 6 (GNS): Secretary Tourism & Culture, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah today directed constitution of helpline cum grievance redressal facility at TRC Srinagar /Jammu for tourists. He announced a regular monthly stakeholder consultation with the office bearers of various trade bodies of tourism sector to identify areas for improvement and devise strategies to overcome any challenges.

    The directions were issued today during a marathon meeting-cum-interaction the Tourism Secretary had with the stakeholders of the tourism industry to discuss and evaluate the existing facilities, identify areas for improvement as well as address any issues affecting the sector.

    Director, Tourism, Kashmir, Raja Yaqoob and other officers of Tourism Department were present on the occasion.

    Dr. Abid highlighted the need for continuously upgrading facilities and services at tourist locations to meet evolving traveler expectations and attract more tourists towards Jammu & Kashmir. He emphasized the significance of maintaining world-class facilities and services at tourist destinations to attract more domestic and international visitors towards the region.

    The Tourism Secretary also highlighted the role played by tourism in economic growth and employment generation and said that there is need for constant evaluation and improvement in facilities at tourist destinations to stay competitive in the global tourism landscape.

    Examining different issues and problems faced by the sector, the Secretary specifically directed strict enforcement of rates and tariffs for the tourism services at tourist destinations for which he directed the Enforcement wing of the Department to carry regular and routine checks to look into any kind of overcharging, touting or cheating by any service provider. He also directed installation of display boards at prominent tourist destinations regarding rates and rules of different tourism services.

    During the meeting, the Tourism Secretary also spoke about the Government’s commitment to develop and promote the tourism sector as a vital contributor to the local economy adding that the tourism sector is poised to achieve new heights and contribute significantly to the region’s economy in coming days. He also emphasized on the significance of collaboration and cooperation between the stakeholders and the Department to create a vibrant and inclusive tourism industry that benefits both the tourists and the local community.

    Referring to the upcoming G20 event in Kashmir, Dr. Abid said that the upcoming Tourism Working Group meeting under the aegis of G20 will get the local tourism industry a big boost and it would position J&K’s tourism industry appropriately on the global canvas.

    The meeting brought together key players from the tourism industry, including representatives from hotels, tour operators and other related organisations associated with the travel trade and hospitality sector besides senior officers of the Tourism Department.

    During the meeting, the stakeholders held extensive discussions with the Tourism Secretary and his team of officers. They gave numerous suggestions for devising effective solutions and strategies to ensure the sustainable growth of the sector and brought many issues into the notice of the Tourism Secretary.(GNS)

    Similarly, in order to facilitate augmentation works the power supply to receiving stations Nowpora, Achabal, Seelu and Bomai shall remain affected on May 09 and 13 from 10 am to 3 pm.

    SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, VK Bidhuri, said on Saturday that the countdown for the G20 meeting has begun and the dates for the summit have already been declared.

    “The countdown for the G20 meeting has begun. The dates for the scheduled meeting have already been declared,” said Divisional Commissioner Kashmir VK Bidhuri while visiting a painting exhibition in Srinagar.

    The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir added that the ongoing developmental works in Srinagar city and elsewhere will be accomplished in time. “The ongoing developmental works in Srinagar city and elsewhere will be accomplished in time. We should know that the G20 meeting will be very beneficial for the entire J&K,” he said.

    “The meeting of the Tourism Working Group will boost the tourism industry in the region. During the visit, ambassadors of different countries will come to know the beauty of Kashmir which they will communicate to their people after returning back to their respective countries and nations,” Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Bidhuri said.

    Regarding the back-to-back failures of deadlines, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir VK Bidhuri said that due to bad weather, the ongoing developmental works were put on hold. “Initially, the government had fixed April 15 as the deadline for completion of works. We pressed our men and machinery day and night. The work continued uninterruptedly during Ramadan, but the works undergoing in the city were hampered for some time due to inclement weather,” he added.

    He also added that the painting exhibition event will display the beauty of Kashmir. “The beauty of Kashmir has been captured and displayed in the event. It is the best opportunity for artists to showcase their talent,” he added. (KNS)

    KULGAM, MAY 06: Ahead of G-20 engagements scheduled this month, a high level meeting of civil and police officers was today held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr. Bilal-Mohi-Ud-Din-Bhat and SSP Kulgam Sahil Sarangal at Mini-Secretariat, Kulgam.

    The meeting was attended by ADDC Showkat Ahmad Rather, ADC Viqar Ahmed, A-SP Shabir Ahmad, ACR, ACD, SDPOs and all district and sectoral officers.

    During the meeting, the DC took an elaborate review of security arrangements.

    After threadbare discussion, directions were passed to civil and police officers with regard to measures and requisite steps which are to be taken by them in view of the scheduled G-20 meeting.

    SRINAGAR: A woman slipped to death while collecting herbs in a forest area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday.

    An official said that Zareena Bano (30) had gone to nearby forest area to collect herbs, however, due to heavy rainfall and slippery condition, she lost and balance and died on the spot.

    He said that soon after the incident, local police reached to the spot and recovered her body.

    “After medico-legal formalities her body will be handed over to her family members for last rites,” he said. (KNO)

    Kulgam, may, 6:Para Sports week activities today culminated here at Sports Stadium,Kulgam where concluding events and award distribution function was held in presence of DC Kulgam,Dr Bilal Mohi-ud-din Bhat.

    The week-long event was organised by District Youth Services & Sports Department from Ist of May.
    More than 300 para sports persons,from all age groups, from across the district participated in cricket,tug of war, carrom, chess , as intimated by DYSSO, Gh Hassan, while speaking on the occasion.
    Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-din Bhat, who was present as Chief Guest, along with SSP, Sahil Sarangal participated in carrom, tug of wars events on the concluding day.
    Speaking on the occasion, DC congratulated the department for organising the event and facilitating an appreciable participation of para sports persons.
    He also lauded specially abled,para sports persons who showed great temperament and enthusiasm by their participation in the events held since day Ist.
    He also held interaction with them and enquired about the issues, who apprised him of some prominent demands viz a viz bettering sports infrastructure, and provision of easy accessibility.
    On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner directed for making all efforts in the coming days to resolve their issues.
    He instructed the YSS department to put up a comprehensive proposal for funds allocation for the benefit of para sports in the district.
    He also instructed to organise more of these para sports events at zonal, district levels.
    SSP, Kulgam congratulated their positive attitude towards sports and said we should seek inspiration from them on their positivity.
    The event was attended by Other civil, police officers along with concerned from the department.

    Later on, Deputy Commissioner inspected under- construction Indoor Badminton stadium at Kulgam and took stock of its work, which is at the final stage of execution.
    It was intimated that the project cost of the stadium is 90 lacs. The DC directed for immediate take over and dedication of the facility for the sports lovers of the district.
