Amid Forecast For Rains, Temperature Records Drop At Most Places In JK

SRINAGAR: Amid forecast for generally cloudy weather with possibility of rains at several places during next 24 hours, night temperature recorded a drop and settled below normal at most places in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.
Quoting a meteorological department official, GNS reportedthat there was possibility of a brief spell of rain and thunderstorm particularly in Kupwara, Poonch, Rajouri and Baramulla today.
On May 5, he said, the weather was likely to be fair to partly cloudy. “Brief spell of rain/thunderstorm can’t be ruled out towards late afternoon/evening”.
From May 6-8, he said, there was likelihood of rain at “many places.”
The weather department has urged tourists to keep warm clothes ready. “Weather is going to be cold till May 8th.”
The department also urged farmers to avoid spraying of apple trees and harvesting of crops (in Jammu region) during May 6-8 as chances of rain were high.
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 10.3°C against 10.4°C on the previous night and it was 0.6°C above normal for the summer capital
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 7.2°C against 8.8°C on the previous night and it was below normal by 1.3°C for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 2.0°C against 5.2°C on previous night and it was 2.9°C above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Kokernag recorded a low of 6.7°C against 7.4°C on the previous night and it was 1.2°C above normal for the place, the officials said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 3.8°C against 3.5°C on previous night and it was 0.5°C below normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.
In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 9.6°C against 8.7°C on the previous night and it was 1.2°C below normal for the north Kashmir area.
Jammu recorded a low of 17.6°C against 18.8°C on the previous night and it was 5.0°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.
Banihal recorded a low of 7.3°C (below normal by 2.8°C), Batote 8.1°C (4.4°C below normal), Katra 13.1°C (6.1°C below normal) and Bhaderwah 6.4°C (below normal by 2.8°C). Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 1.5°C and 2.8°C respectively, he added.

IMD Hyderabad forecasts temperature in Telangana to soar up to 45 degrees Celsius

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for most of the districts in Telangana as it forecasts that the maximum temperature will rise to up to 45 degrees Celsius in the current week. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad, where the temperature is expected to rise up to 40 degrees Celsius.
Today so far, the highest maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees Celsius was recorded in Adilabad. Other districts that recorded more than 40 degrees Celsius are Jagtial (41.5), Mancherial (41), Kumuram Bheem (40.5), Nalgonda (40.5), Adilabad (40.3), Yadadri Bhuvanagiri (40.3), Mulugu (40.3), and Nagarkurnool (40.1). In Hyderabad, the highest maximum temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in Khairatabad.
On Tuesday, the IMD predicted normal rainfall during the southwest monsoon season despite the evolving El Nino conditions. The El Nino is the warming of the waters in the Pacific Ocean near South America, which is generally associated with the weakening of monsoon winds and dry weather in India.

The El Nino conditions this year follow three consecutive La Nina years, which typically bring good rainfall during the monsoon season.
Normal rainfall is critical for India’s agricultural landscape, with 52 percent of the net cultivated area relying on it. It is also crucial for the replenishing of reservoirs critical for drinking water, apart from power generation across the country.
The IMD’s forecast serves as a relief to the agricultural sector as it relies heavily on the monsoon season for cultivation.

Drop In Temperature, More Rain Forecast

SRINAGAR: Amid forecast for isolated to widespread light rain and thunders in next 24 hours especially towards evening, the minimum temperatures recorded a fall in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.
Quoting a meteorological official, GNS reported that intermittent rain and thunderstorm was expected at many places from April 3-6.”Thunderstorm may be accompanied by strong gusty winds,” the official said.
Regarding rainfall during the last 24 hours till 0830 hours today, the MeT official said, Srinagar received 10.4mm, Qazigund 4.8mm, Pahalgam 14.8mm, Kupwara 5.2mm, Kokernag 8.6mm, Gulmarg 6.6mm, Jammu 19.6mm, Banihal 31.6mm, Batote 32.2mm, Katra 29.4mm, Bhaderwah 10.2mm and Kathua 7.6mm. Leh had snowfall of 1.2 cm, he said.
The MeT official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 6.7°C against 9.1°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C above normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 3.5°C against 8.0°C on the previous night and it was 1.6°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Hyderabad records hottest day of year so far as temperature jumps

Hyderabad: Hyderabad recorded the hottest day of the year so far on Thursday as the maximum temperature soared high. Several other parts of Telangana also witnessed record temperatures yesterday, as per the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) report. The situation is expected to continue for the next few days.
According to the TSDPS report, the temperature in Hyderabad’s Tirumalagiri reached 39.6 degrees Celsius, and Saidabad recorded more than 39 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature in the entire Telangana was recorded in Kamareddy’s Bhiknoor. The Mandal’s temperature reached 43.8 degrees Celsius. After Kamareddy, Nirmal recorded the second-highest temperature of 42.7 degrees Celsius.
Temperature in Hyderabad to reach 40 degrees Celsius soon
The weather department has issued a forecast that predicts the maximum temperature in the state will be in the range of 37-41 degrees Celsius till April 2. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers may be witnessed at isolated places.
In Hyderabad, the maximum temperature is expected to be in the range of 35-38 degrees Celsius till April 2, but no rainfall is expected in the next three days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has also forecasted that the temperature in the city is likely to be high till April 3. As per the weather department, the temperature in the city is likely to reach 40 degrees Celsius soon.
IMD Hyderabad issued yellow alert for Telangana
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for many districts of Telangana, but no warning has been issued for Hyderabad.
In view of the forecast made by both IMD Hyderabad and TSDPS, residents are advised to take necessary precautions and plan accordingly.
With the summer heat on the rise during the Ramzan, it is essential to drink enough water during sehri. As per various studies, a minimum of 60 ounces or nearly 2 liters of water can help a person keep hydrated for an entire day during the fast.

Apart from it, wearing loose, light-colored cotton clothing can also help in coping with the heat.

Mamata sits overnight in ‘dharna’ against Centre, raises political temperature

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sat overnight in front of Dalit icon Dr B R Ambedkar’s statue on Red Road in the heart of the metropolis, surrounded by a cohort of TMC leaders and workers under television camera arclights.
Banerjee, who is staging a two-day sit-in to protest alleged discrimination by the Centre against the state, had Wednesday in a change of stance urged all political parties in the country to unitedly fight the BJP in next year’s Lok Sabha election.
This is a departure from an earlier decision to remain equidistant from both the Congress and the right-wing party ruling India’s federal polity.
The Trinamool Congress supremo was accompanied by several party leaders, including Firhad Hakim and Aroop Biswas at the protest site.
Banerjee’s 30-hour demonstration is likely to end around 7 pm on Thursday.
Security measures in and around the venue were tightened keeping in mind the presence of high-profile leaders, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
Banerjee started the sit-in from Wednesday noon, protesting against the Centre’s “stoppage” of funds to the state for MGNREGA and other schemes of the housing and public works departments.
Stating that the 2024 Parliamentary polls will be a fight between the citizens of the country and the BJP, Banerjee had Wednesday asserted that people across religions must unite to defeat the saffron party and save the poor of the country.

She described the BJP as ‘Dushasana’ and ‘Duryodhana’ the two antagonists from the epic Mahabharata’.
“I urge every political party in India to unite to oust this Dushasana’ BJP government. This Duryodhana’ BJP should be removed from power to save the country’s common man as well as Indian democracy,” Banerjee said.
Kolkata has been witnessing a flurry of political activity ahead of the panchayat elections slated for this summer, which has now received a green signal from the Calcutta High Court.
The state’s political temperature has risen by a few notches with rallies by Banerjee’s nephew and TMC leader Abhisek, BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari and a march organised by the Left-Congress alliance, alongside the sit-in, which has been drawing large crowds of onlookers.

Srinagar: As the mercury level is on a steady rise in the valley of Kashmir, farmers are becoming increasingly apprehensive about the impact it might have on their crops. However, the Director of Agriculture in the region has come forward to ease their worries, stating that the rise in temperature is not entirely detrimental to crops and may even lead to a better yield of wheat and mustard.
Talking to news agency KMN Director Agriculture Kashmir Choudry Iqbal said, while the increase in temperature may cause some damage to the other crops, it will also have a positive effect on the yield. He also mentioned that proper care and attention must be given to the crops to ensure a healthy growth, especially with the upcoming three cuttings of Barseen grass, which can benefit greatly from the warm weather.
The Director went on to explain that mustard crops, which are currently in the flowering stage and wheat can yield more produce with the rise in temperature. The increase in temperature can also lead to an early harvest, allowing farmers to save time and resources.
Furthermore, the Director emphasized that farmers should take precautions such as irrigating the fields properly, using mulch to conserve moisture and prevent soil erosion, and ensuring adequate fertilization to enhance the growth of the crops.
Despite the optimistic outlook, the Director also acknowledged the potential risks associated with the rise in temperature. He urged farmers to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent any harm to the crops.
In addition to the wheat and mustard crops, the Director also mentioned that the Barseen grass, a popular feed for livestock, will also benefit from the increase in temperature. With proper care and attention, the grass can be cut three times, providing a significant source of nutrition for the cattle.

He said till March 16, “generally cloudy with dry weather” was expected.
“Afternoon thunderstorms at isolated places can’t be ruled out,” the official said, adding, “Generally cloudy with intermittent light rain with thunder at scattered places was expected during March 17-20.”

Hyderabad: India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has issued a yellow alert as the maximum temperature in Telangana is likely to rise to 40 degrees Celsius this week.
Though the temperature in Hyderabad is likely to be below 36 degrees Celsius, most of the districts in Telangana may witness temperatures ranging from 36 to 40 degrees Celsius.
Hyderabad sees dip in maximum temperature
On Tuesday, gusty winds over Hyderabad due to unusual thunderstorms in northern districts of Telangana resulted in a dip in maximum temperature in the city. It provided much-needed relief from the scorching heat.
As per IMD Hyderabad, the maximum temperature in the city dropped to 30.7 degrees Celsius on Tuesday from 34.7 degrees on Monday.
Northern districts of Telangana witnessed hailstorms and gusty winds yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) forecasted that the minimum temperature in Hyderabad will be below 21 degrees Celsius.
As per the forecast, the minimum temperature in the city will be in the range of 19 to 21 degrees Celsius whereas, the maximum temperature will be between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius till March 10, 2023.
Telangana likely to witness rise in temperature as state may see harsher summer
As per weather predictions, Telangana is likely to witness a harsher summer season this year. The reason behind it could be the El Nino event.
