Pakistani girl who was arrested for illegally staying in India returns home, says family

Karachi: A minor Pakistani girl who went missing from her home in Hyderabad city in the southern Sindh province last September and was arrested from Bengaluru in January has returned back, her family said on Tuesday.

The girl, identified as Iqra Jeevani, entered India in September through the porous India-Nepal border. She married a 25-year-old security guard from Uttar Pradesh, whom she met through a gaming app.

The girl’s father, Sohail Jeewani, said they had already gone through a lot of pain and embarrassment and just wanted to move on.

“I don’t want her or anyone else in my family to speak on this issue. What has happened has happened. Yes I confirm she has been returned to us and we are leaving from Lahore tonight,” Sohail told PTI over phone before hanging up.

The girl’s case has garnered a lot of attention in both countries after she was recovered by the Indian authorities in January in Bengaluru.

Iqra, who is 16 years of age, left her home in Shahi Bazar in Hyderabad for her college – Federal Government Girls College – on September 19, 2022 and was found four months later in Bengaluru when police arrested a young boy she was living with.

It transpired she had developed a friendship and then relationship with the Indian man, Mulayam Singh Yadav, and apparently married him.

“She had called us from India in early January to inform us she was safe and married to this Indian man,” her uncle Afzal Jeewani said.

A senior police official said the family informed them about the call and they got in touch through required channels with the Pakistan foreign office who then contacted their Indian counterparts to help find and recover the girl.

A few days after her contact, she was arrested along with her purported husband.

Afzal claimed that the Indian man had deceived his niece by posing as a Muslim boy when the two met on social media while playing online Ludo games.

According to reports, Bengaluru police arrested Yadav, accusing him of bringing a Pakistani girl to India after befriending her.

Iqra was subsequently handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office officials, who later remanded her to a state home for women.

She was handed over to the Pakistani authorities on Sunday at the Wagah border.

MP: BJP leader Uma Bharti staying in Bhopal temple for stringent liquor policy

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Ahead of the Madhya Pradesh government’s likely announcement of a new liquor policy, BJP veteran Uma Bharti on Saturday reached a temple here where she would stay put till January 31 demanding the policy be made more stringent.

Bharti has been demanding appropriate amendments in liquor policy, which the state government releases every year, and incorporating more controls to promote de-addiction.

On Saturday afternoon, Bharti reached a temple located near a liquor shop in Ayodhya Nagar trisection and announced she will stay there till January 31 awaiting the liquor policy announcement. Bharti had earlier opposed the wine shop located near the temple.

The state government has not announced a date but a new liquor policy is generally announced in January end.

The former Union minister told reporters she had expressed a desire to tour various spots in Madhya Pradesh last November but the visit could not materialise for the lack of arrangements for her staff including security personnel.

“I have never demanded absolute prohibition. I said I would implement a total prohibition if it is in my control. I have full faith in Shivraj ji (MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan). I will wait for the decision about the liquor policy on January 31,” she said.

The former chief minister said she didn’t want the opposition Congress to benefit from her stand.

“If a controlled liquor policy, as I had told (to the BJP government), is implemented, the BJP will repeat its record victory like 2003,” she said.

The BJP had won 165 seats in the 230-member Assembly in the 2003 polls decimating Congress, which was in power at that time, to 58 seats. After that election, Bharti became the chief minister. She resigned after eight months.

The Assembly elections in MP are due in December this year.

Pakistani girl illegally staying in Bengaluru arrested

Bengaluru: A 19-year-old Pakistani girl, who allegedly forged her identity to stay illegally in India, has been arrested in Bengaluru, police said on Sunday.

The police arrested Iqra Jeevani and handed over to the FRRO officials. She was later sent to a state home for women.

Bellandur police also arrested Mulayam Singh Yadav, a 25-year-old security guard from Uttar Pradesh, whom the Pakistani girl married after meeting him through a dating app a few months ago.

According to police, she had entered India through the porous India-Nepal border.

The investigations revealed that Yadav befriended Iqra on a dating app and they decided to get married.

The security guard had called her to Nepal a few months ago where they got married. The couple crossed into India to reach Birgunj in Bihar and from there, reached Patna.

Yadav and Iqra later came to Bengaluru and stayed in a rented house in Junnasandra where Yadav started working as security guard since September 2022.

He even secured an Aadhaar card for Iqra after changing her name to Rava Yadav and applied for an Indian passport.

Iqra came under the scanner of central intelligence agencies when she was trying to contact her family in Pakistan. The central agencies alerted the Karnataka intelligence. Acting on the information, police raided the house and arrested the couple.

Sources said further investigations were on to check whether the Pakistani was part of any espionage ring
