New Delhi: Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s family has been given five days to vacate the official bungalow as his Mathura Road residence has been allotted to the newly-sworn in Delhi Minister, Atishi.

The Public Works Department (PWD) in an order said: “The Competent Authority is pleased to offer the Bungalow No. AB-17, Mathura Road, to Atishi, Minister in the Delhi government.”

The PWD order asked the occupants to vacate it on or before March 21.

According to the order, the directions were issued in line with provisions of the Delhi Administration Allotment of Government Residences (General Pool) Rules, 1977 that govern such allotments against “the invocation of penal provisions under the rules” if not vacated.

“Where the allottee is already in occupation of any house earlier allotted, the allottee will have to vacate the house within 15 days after taking the possession of the new house allotted in lieu of the previous house. The allottee shall also be required to submit a Clearance Certificate from the DDO concerned for recovery of license fee/ water charges relating to the accommodation earlier allotted,” the order read.

Talking about the order, AAP MP Sanjay Singh said: “Atishi is a minister and the bungalow has been allotted in her name, what is wrong with it? Manish Sisodia is our brother, his family is our family, we will take care of him. The BJP is treating Sisodia like a terrorist… the party should not play games.”

Meanwhile, BJP’s IT in-charge Amit Malviya said: “Kejriwal had promised to look after Manish Sisodia and his family. But he was removed as minister almost immediately, while Satyendar Jain was retained as minister for nine months when he was in jail. Now, Sisodia has been asked to vacate the bungalow so that it can be allotted to Atishi.”

Delhi court reserves order on ED plea seeking Sisodia’s custody

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Friday reserved an order on the Enforcement Directorate plea seeking 10-day custodial interrogation of former Deputy Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia in the excise policy scam case.

This comes after Sisodia was presented before the court at 2 pm today after he was arrested by ED yesterday after hours of questioning in Tihar Jail where the AAP leader is lodged.

During the hearing, senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan, appearing for Manish Sisodia, opposed ED plea seeking Sisodia’s 10-day custody.

The agency said that it is seeking 10-day custody to interrogate Manish Sisodia to identify the modus operandi and to confront other persons who have been summoned.

The ED told the court that Manish Sisodia had purchased SIM cards and mobile phones in other people’s names.

There was a conspiracy behind framing the excise policy. The conspiracy was coordinated by Vijay Nair, along with others and the Excise policy was brought out for extraordinary profit margin for wholesalers, ED argued in the court.

ED told the court that the margin of 12 per cent of wholesale profit margin to private entities was never discussed in the GoM meeting.

The probe agency apprised the court about the meeting between Vijay Nair and K Kavitha (BRS MLC).

ED stated that accused Butchibabu Gorantla disclosed a political understanding between then Dy CM Manish Sisodia and K Kavitha who also met Vijay Nair. Butchibabu is the former auditor of K Kavitha and is presently on bail.

Countering Sisodia’s lawyer’s arguements, the ED lawyer told the court that if the policy is a matter of executive then there would not be a coal scam or a 2G scam.

Earlier, Sisodia was arrested on Thursday by ED in money laundering in connection with the excise policy case.

He was arrested during his Judicial custody in Tihar Jail, where he was lodged in.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 9 arrested former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in the liquor policy case, after hours of questioning at Tihar Jail.

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in the liquor policy case on February 26 and was sent to 14-day judicial custody on March 6.

The ED also made another arrest in the case earlier, as it took Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai into its custody.

The ED, on Thursday, summoned Bharatiya Rashtriya Samiti (BRS) MLC and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s daughter K Kavitha for questioning in the liquor policy case.

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI earlier in its ongoing investigation of a case related to alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the excise policy of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court sent him to Judicial Custody till March 20.

Excise policy scam: Delhi court to hear Sisodia’s bail plea today

    [ad_1]

Delhi: A Delhi court is to hear on Friday the bail application of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in connection with the now-scrapped excise policy case.

He was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26 after quizzing him for several hours.

Special CBI Judge M.K. Nagpal of the Rouse Avenue Courts sent Sisodia to 14 days of judicial custody on March 6.

The CBI was given his remand for seven days before the judge sent him to judicial custody till March 20.

The judge had directed the CBI to file its response to the accused’s bail application by Friday.

It has been claimed by the accused that he had fully cooperated with the central agency during the probe.

He has stated that as all the recoveries have already been made, no fruitful purpose would be served by keeping him in custody and that the other accused persons arrested in this case have already been granted bail.

He has pointed out that he has held an important constitutional post and has deep roots in the society.

However, during the last hearing, the counsel appearing for the central agency said that at this stage, they are not seeking further CBI remand but in the next 15 days they might seek it.

In a twist, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) also arrested Sisodia on Thursday in the same case.

The ED, on the eve of his bail hearing, questioned him in connection with the alleged kickbacks of Rs 100 crore which the AAP party/leaders received through hawala channel from the south group.

He was also asked about Arun Pillai and K. Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

  • KCR unfolded drama to save Kavitha after Sisodia’s arrest: Bandi Sanjay

KCR unfolded drama to save Kavitha after Sisodia’s arrest: Bandi Sanjay

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Bandi Sanjay Kumar criticised the Bharat Rashtra Smaithi (BRS) chief K Chandrashekhar Rao for making a hue and cry over Sisodia’s arrest after sensing a threat for his daughter and BRS MLC K Kavitha.

Speaking to reporters at the BJP party headquarters, Sanjay claimed that the letter released to the media by the office of KCR on Sunday did not have the signatures of any of the opposition leaders.

Bandi Sanjay further ridiculed the letter purported to have been written by the leaders of various opposition parties to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concern over the arrest of Aam Admi Party leader and former deputy chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia.

He pointed out that K Chandrashekhar Rao was silent when there were allegations against his daughter Kavitha but unfolded a drama to save his daughter after Sisodia’s arrest.

“KCR has mastered such tricks and it must have been fabricated by him. Except for AAP, which is hand in glove with Bharat Rashtra Samithi in the Delhi liquor scam, no other party has officially responded to it. The two parties have ganged up and their intention is to see that there should be no investigation into any of their scams,” he said.

He pointed out that if Sisodia was not guilty, he would have got bail from the court.

“KCR knows that his daughter Kavitha will be the next to get arrested. That is why he is making a hue and cry over Sisodia’s arrest,” he said.

“How can he stoop down to the level of releasing a letter without obtaining the signatures of other party leaders?” he asked.

He alleged that in the past KCR had created a forged letter in the name of the Telangana BJP president on the flood relief from the Centre and also on Dalit Bandhu implementation.

“We shall soon collect one crore signatures on the corruption and scams of KCR and submit a representation to the President of India,” he added.

On KCR’s allegation that the Modi government was targeting the opposition parties, Sanjay said Modi’s philosophy was not to leave anybody if they made any mistake.

“But what is KCR doing? Is he not filing cases against the opposition leaders who question his misrule? He doesn’t give permission to the opposition leaders to stage dharnas and agitations but is foisting false cases against them,” Bandi pointed.

    Delhi excise scam so far:

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI and later remanded to judicial custody by Rouse Avenue District Courts. His bail plea is also pending before the court which will hear it on March 10.

The ED has filed two charge sheets, a main and a supplementary charge sheet, in the case and has made 11 arrests so far.

Butchibabu Gorantla is the former auditor of MLC K Kavitha whose name surfaced in the case was granted bail on March 7 and was asked to surrender his Passport.

Delhi court reserves order on CBI plea seeking 3 more days of Sisodia’s custody

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday reserved its order on a plea by the CBI seeking further three-day custody of former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, arrested in a corruption case related to the excise policy.

CBI’s plea was opposed by Sisodia’s lawyer who said the inefficiency of the agency to complete its probe cannot be a ground for remand and he cannot be asked to incriminate himself.

Sisodia, who was produced before special judge M K Nagpal, said non-cooperation cannot be a ground for custody and opposed the CBI’s plea for his remand.

There was heavy security presence in and outside the Rouse Avenue Courts premises.

The supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party staged a protest outside the premises and raised slogans.

Sisodia was granted five-day CBI custody on Monday. The CBI on Sunday evening had arrested Sisodia in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped liquor policy for 2021-22.

  • Sisodia’s portfolios given to Kailash Gahlot, Raaj Kumar Anand till appointment of new ministers

Sisodia’s portfolios given to Kailash Gahlot, Raaj Kumar Anand till appointment of new ministers

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi Revenue Minister Kailash Gahlot has been given the additional charge of finance and power while Social Welfare Minister Raaj Kumar Anand will be handling education and health departments till new ministers are appointed in the Cabinet, officials said on Tuesday.

The announcement was made on Tuesday hours after Delhi ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain, arrested on corruption charges, resigned from the Arvind Kejriwal-led cabinet.

According to officials, Kejriwal has accepted the resignations of the two leaders, who played a pivotal role in implementing his governance agenda of good education and health facilities in the national capital.

Sisodia was handling 18 of the total 33 departments in the Delhi government. His portfolios have been divided between Gahlot and Anand as a temporary arrangement.

“Till the time new ministers are appointed, the allotment of additional portfolios for the interim period will see Gahlot taking care of finance, planning, public works department, power, home, urban development, irrigation and flood control, and water along with his existing departments.

“Raaj Kumar Anand will be taking care of education, land and building, vigilance, services, tourism, art culture and language, labour, employment, health and industries in addition to his existing portfolios,” said an official.

Hours after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accepted the resignation of Sisodia and Jain on Tuesday, AAP national spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said two new ministers will be appointed “very soon”.

The resignations came minutes after the SC refused to entertain the bail plea of Sisodia, who is in CBI custody in the now-scrapped excise policy case, saying it would set a “wrong precedent” and efficacious alternative remedies are available to him.

While Sisodia was arrested on Sunday evening by CBI after nearly nine hours of questioning, Jain, currently lodged in Tihar, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in May last year in connection with a money laundering case.

However, Jain continued to be a minister in the Delhi government without any portfolios. Jain’s portfolios, including health, home and urban development were handed over to Sisodia.

  • Sisodia’s arrest: Delhi govt’s budget preparation likely to be affected, say sources

Sisodia’s arrest: Delhi govt’s budget preparation likely to be affected, say sources

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The preparation of the Delhi government’s budget for the next financial year is likely to be affected following the arrest of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds the finance portfolio, sources said on Monday.

The finance department is still in the process of finalising the budgetary allocations.

“Various departments have sent their budget estimates, revenue utilised this year. The budget is not yet finalised. The allocations to various departments are still being finalised,” an official said.

There were plans to present the budget around the second week of March but it might be pushed to the third or fourth week. However, it has to be presented before April 1, when the new financial year starts.

Before Sisodia’s questioning by the CBI in the excise policy case, the deputy chief minister held a series of budget-related meetings, with Revenue Minister Kailash Gahlot also being a part of them.

Sources in the Aam Aadmi Party said Gahlot may present the Delhi government budget this time.

“As there was a possibility that the deputy chief minister may be arrested by the CBI, Gahlot was attending budget-related meetings for the last few days. Gahlot is likely to present the 2023-24 budget. It is scheduled to be presented next month. If Sisodia gets bail, he will present the budget but if he doesn’t, Gahlot might do it,” an AAP functionary told PTI.

Sisodia was originally summoned by the CBI last Sunday but he sought deferment of his questioning citing the ongoing Budget exercise, following which, the CBI had asked him to appear on February 26.

He was arrested on Monday and remanded to five-day CBI custody the next day.

The Arvind Kejriwal government is staring at a possible crisis with the CBI arresting Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia who holds as many as 18 of the total 33 departments, including education, finance and home.

The arrest of Sisodia comes after that of Satyendar Jain, Delhi’s the then health minister, in June last year. Both have led what the Aam Aadmi Party describes as the successful transformation of Delhi’s education and health services, contributing to the party’s popularity and continued electoral success.

Their absence leaves Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal with no heavyweight lieutenant to implement his governance agenda in Delhi.

Jammu: AAP stages protest against Sisodia’s arrest

    [ad_1]

Jammu: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday staged a protest outside the BJP office here to protest against the arrest of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia by the CBI in connection with alleged corruption in the now-scrapped excise policy.

Several AAP leaders and workers from different parts of Jammu province gathered outside the BJP office at Trikuta Nagar and held a demonstration against the Central government, a party spokesman said.

“The BJP government at the Centre is arresting opposition leaders through various agencies by implicating them in various scams so that pressure can be put on them to suppress their voices,” AAP leader Amit Kapoor told reporters.

Demanding immediate release of Sisodia, he said his arrest is a “black chapter” in the democracy as he is innocent and making constant efforts to provide better education to children of poor families.

“AAP workers will not tolerate such kind of actions and will start a big movement against the BJP-led government,” he said, calling upon the party workers to unite to oppose such “anti-people and anti-democratic” steps.

Means to divert attention: BRS party supremo KCR condemns Sisodia’s arrest

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) supremo and state chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) has condemned the arrest of Delhi deputy chief minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia in the alleged liquor policy scam case.

The BRS party released a statement from its official Twitter page saying, “We condemn the arrest of Delhi Dy CM Sri Manish Sisodia by CBI. It is nothing more than diverting people’s attention from Adani – Modi nexus. – CM Sri KCR”

Earlier in the day, BRS working president and IT minister K T Rama Rao (KTR) termed Sisodia’s arrest as undemocratic and alleged that the BJP’s treatment of opposition is vicious.

KTR said that Sisodia’s arrest is part of a conspiracy to use central government agencies to weaken the parties in the states and in regions where the BJP cannot come to power.

Terming Sisodia’s arrest as the height of the BJP’s vendetta politics, he said that Sisodia was arrested after BJP suffered defeat in the Delhi mayoral election.

Delhi court on Monday ordered Sisodia to a five-day CBI custody after the latter said the conspiracy was hatched in a very deliberate and covert manner.

Sisodia’s lawyer opposed the agency’s remand application, arguing, “If someone is not willing to say something, that can’t be a ground for arrest”.
