SRINAGAR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to chair a high-level meeting in the national capital on Thursday to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting is expected to be held at 3 pm in the North Block office of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

As per media reports, the meeting will be attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir Dilbagh Singh, and other senior officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Central Armed Police Forces. Director Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka and Central Central Reserve Police Force Director General SL Thaosen will also be present.

The purpose of the meeting is to review the functioning of the security grid and various aspects related to security, and to give necessary directions to follow the policy of zero tolerance against terrorism. Matters related to various developmental works being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir are also expected to be on the agenda.

The meeting comes amid an encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces at the Chakoora area of Shopian in south Kashmir. Over the years, several civilians and security force personnel have been targeted by militants in Jammu and Kashmir, and many personnel have lost their lives in such attacks.

This is not the first time the Home Minister has reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. In October last year, he visited the Union Territory for three days and held a review meeting. He also held a review meeting in New Delhi on December 28, 2022, over the security situation and development aspects of Jammu and Kashmir.

The minister then took a dig at the Opposition party, saying, “The AIADMK leader here said that they had given IPL tickets to the MLAs for matches held at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. But no matches were played at the stadium in the last four years. I wonder for whom did the party buy tickets.”

    [ad_1]

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has written a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah calling him to include Tamil as a language for the written test in the recruitment for Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF).

In a statement on Sunday, the Tamil Nadu government said that the Chief Minister had written a letter to the Union Home Minister stating that in the notification for the written test to the recruitment for CRPF, it was mentioned that the test could be taken in English and Hindi.

The state government in the statement said that of the 9,212 vacancies in CRPF, 579 have to be filled from Tamil Nadu and the exams are to be held in 12 centres across the state.

    MS Education Academy

Stalin said that the aspirants from Tamil Nadu will be unable to write the test in their mother tongue in their native place.

The government release said that there was a Hindi comprehension for 25 marks out of 100 marks and this would be beneficial for only Hindi-speaking students.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, according to the statement from the state government said that the CRPF notification was against those applying for the post from Tamil Nadu and added that this was not only unilateral but amounts to being discriminatory.

He also said that the notification was against the constitutional rights of the job aspirant.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister called upon Union Home Minister Shah and sought his immediate intervention for allowing aspirants in non-Hindi speaking states to write the test in their mother tongue.

  • Amit Shah to visit Arunachal village along China border on April 10-11

Amit Shah to visit Arunachal village along China border on April 10-11

    [ad_1]

Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Arunachal Pradesh on April 10 and 11 where he will launch the ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ in Kibithoo, a village along the India-China border.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government of India has approved the ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’ (VVP) with central components of Rs 4,800 crore, including Rs 2,500 crore exclusively for road connectivity for the financial years 2022-23 to 2025-26, a home ministry statement said on Saturday.

The VVP is a centrally sponsored scheme under which 2,967 villages in 46 blocks of 19 districts abutting the northern border in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and Union Territory of Ladakh have been identified for comprehensive development.

    MS Education Academy

In the first phase, 662 villages, including 455 in Andhra Pradesh, have been identified for priority coverage.

The VVP will help in improving the quality of life of people living in identified border villages and encourage people to stay at their native locations, thereby reversing the outmigration from these villages and adding to the security of the border, the statement said.

The district administration, with the help of appropriate mechanisms at block and panchayat levels, will prepare action plans for the identified villages to ensure 100 per cent saturation of central and state schemes. The focus areas of interventions identified for the development of villages include road connectivity, drinking water, electricity including solar and wind energy, mobile and internet connectivity, tourist centres, multi-purpose centres and healthcare infrastructure and wellness centres.

Shah, in his first visit to Arunachal Pradesh as home minister, will on April 10 inaugurate nine micro hydel projects of the state government constructed under the “Golden Jubilee Border Illumination Programme” in Kibithoo. These electricity projects will empower people living in border villages, the statement said.

He will also inaugurate Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) projects to augment infrastructure at Likabali (Arunachal Pradesh), Chapra (Bihar), Nooranad (Kerala) and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), it said.

The home minister will also interact with ITBP personnel at Kibithoo in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh.

An exhibition of products made by members of women’s self-help groups of border districts will also be held. Shah will visit the exhibition stalls, the statement said.

On April 11, he will visit Namti field and pay homage at the Walong war memorial, it said.

Shah Rukh Khan tops TIME100 reader poll, beating out global influencers

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has topped Time magazine’s poll for its annual TIME100 list, bagging more reader votes than football ace Lionel Messi, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

According to the American publication, the “Pathaan” star got over four per cent of the 1.2 million votes cast.

In the poll, the magazine readers vote for the individuals they believe deserve a spot on TIME’s annual list of the most influential people.

    MS Education Academy

Khan, 57, is currently riding high on the success of “Pathaan”, which became a runaway blockbuster at the global box office after it released in January.

The movie, a mega comeback vehicle for the superstar after his absence from leading man roles for more than four years, has earned over Rs 1000 crore worldwide.

The second spot went to the Iranian women protesting for greater freedoms from the country’s Islamic regime, garnering three per cent of the vote.

Iran has been hit by protests since the September 16 death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. Amini was detained in September by Iran’s morality police, who said she didn’t properly cover her hair with the mandatory Islamic headscarf hijab. She collapsed at a police station and died three days later.

The Iranian women were also recognised in TIME’s 2022 Heroes of the Year and also won last year’s Person of the Year reader poll.

With 1.9 per cent vote share, Britain’s Prince Harry and his wife Markle came third and fourth on the poll.

The Duke of Sussex made headlines in January after the release of his memoir “Spare”, in which he wrote about intimate aspects of Britain’s royal family.

Messi, who steered Argentina to World Cup glory in an epic final against France last year in Qatar, is at the fifth spot with 1.8 per cent of the vote. He won the World Cup at his record-equalling fifth attempt.

Other stars and noteworthy figures who featured on the poll included this year’s best actress Oscar winner Yeoh, former tennis player Serena Williams, Zuckerberg and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

According to the outlet, its editors will reveal their choices for the 2023 TIME100 list on April 13.

  • Democracy not in danger, dynasty politics is: Shah targets Rahul in UP

Democracy not in danger, dynasty politics is: Shah targets Rahul in UP

    [ad_1]

Kaushambi: Attacking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent remarks in the UK, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said that it’s not democracy that is in danger, but “your family” and the idea of dynasty politics that is under threat.

At two public meetings in Uttar Pradesh during the day, he also slammed the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party. In Azamgarh, which has a sizeable Muslim population, he said under the previous state governments, 24-hour power supply was available “only during Ramzan”. “Now the BJP government has ensured power to entire Uttar Pradesh and heralded a new period of development,” he added.

Shah inaugurated the Kaushambi Mahotsav and honoured several players of the ‘Sansad Khel Spardha’. Later, he laid the foundation stone for the Harihar music college in Azamgarh.

    MS Education Academy

He said Azamgarh was earlier known as the “centre of terrorism”, a reference to some of the accused in terror cases like the 2008 Ahmedabad serial bomb blasts hailing from the district.

But now its identity has changed to a hub of development, Shah said.

“I was the home minister of Gujarat when there were bomb blasts in Ahmedabad. The police had caught the main ‘sutradhaar’ (culprit) of it from Azamgarh,” he said.

“I want to congratulate Yogi ji (CM Yogi Adityanath). In Azamgarh, which was considered the centre of terror across the country, he got the foundation of a music college laid to give respect to its heritage,” Shah said.

In Kaushambi, Shah hit out at Gandhi for claiming in the UK that democracy is under threat, accusing his party of surrounding the Indian democracy with three “naasuron” (ulcerous wounds) casteism, dynasty politics and appeasement. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi defeated all three and hence “you are afraid,” he added.

“They say democracy is in danger. Brother, democracy is not in danger, your family is in danger. It is not the idea of India which is in danger, it is the idea of dynasty, your politics of ‘parivarvad’ (dynasty), which are in danger. It is not the democracy of India, but the autocracy of your family, which is in danger,” the senior BJP leader said.

The BJP has accused Gandhi of “insulting” the country on foreign soil and demanded an apology, but the Congress leader has said his position that India’s democracy was under attack “was known” to all.

Shah also accused the Congress party of not allowing Parliament to function.

“Yesterday, the Parliament was adjourned. In the history of independent India, it has never happened that the Budget Session ended without a sitting and discussion… What was the reason? Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as Lok Sabha MP,” the Union minister said.

On March 18, a Surat court sentenced Gandhi to two years in jail in a defamation case over his Modi surname remark. A day later, the Lok Sabha Secretariat suspended his Lok Sabha membership.

Congress accused the BJP of indulging in “vindictive politics” but the ruling party said it was the law.

On Friday, addressing the gathering in Kaushambi, Shah asked, “Who brought the law?”

He also said Gandhi was not the only leader whose membership has “gone” after sentencing by a court. “So far, the membership of 17 MLAs-MPs has gone, including that of Rahul Gandhi.”

Recalling his earlier visits to UP, before the BJP government came to power in the state, Shah said in Azamgarh there was hardly a night when power was available in rural areas. He also said it was difficult to imagine UP being “riot-free” but the Adityanath government has made it possible.

Slamming SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, who contested and won from Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat in the previous election, Shah asked the people whether he “was he seen” during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Had he come here to give vaccination doses? The prime minister got the entire country vaccinated, provided foodgrains to the poor,” the Union minister said.

Hyderabad: Telangana IT minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party working president KT Rama Rao on Friday requested the Union home minister Amit Shah to revise the CRPF recruitment notification to include Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and other official languages.

    MS Education Academy

He further said “The National Recruitment Agency has decided to facilitate a Common Eligibility Test (NRA-CET) to replace multiple examinations & conduct these in 12 Indian languages”.
