Telangana: Minor raped, impregnated at TMREIS premises; baby abandoned in dustbin

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: In a meeting with Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar, the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) leader Amjed Ullah Khan expressed concern and demanded a thorough inquiry regarding the rape of a minor girl at the Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS) premises.

According to Khan, the incident took place on March 24 when the minor student, who became pregnant, gave birth to a baby girl at the TMREIS hostel in Narayankhed, Sangareddy district.

In his letter to the DGP, Khan stated that soon after the birth, the baby was abandoned in a dustbin, 15 km away from the hostel. The infant was rescued by sub-inspector Narayana of the Sirgapur police after some locals alerted him. The baby is currently under the care of the Women and Child Welfare Committee.

Khan said that as soon as the incident came to light, the TMREIS staff tried to lodge a fake complaint against him and the sub-inspector who rescued the baby.

Khan had earlier tweeted about the incident on April 6 where he questioned how after regular medical checkups at the TMREIS hostel the incident was undetected for nine months.

“Even after TMREIS ‘s claims of conducting regular medical checkups, how come the minor girl become pregnant? How did the matter go undetected for nine months? Under whose pressure did the Sirgapur police dint lodge an FIR and investigate the case?” he questioned.

The following day, Khan shot a letter to chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) regarding the incident and demanded the installation of CCTV cameras on the hostel premises and the deployment of women constables for the safety of girl students.

On the same day (April 7) an FIR was lodged under the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) at the Narayankhed police station.

The letter accuses the TMREIS principal and staff members of brushing the matter under the carpet and not alerting the police.

According to the latest reports, the principal, deputy warden and staff nurse of the hostel have been suspended by the TMREIS department.

On Tuesday, the suspended principal filed a counter FIR stating that she was being wrongly accused of conducting prostitution in the hostel.

Delhi HC makes face masks mandatory inside court premises

New Delhi: With the number of daily Covid cases rising rapidly in the national capital, the Delhi High Court has made it compulsory for lawyers, staff and litigants to wear face masks at all times inside the court premises as a precautionary measure.

The registrar general of the high court issued a circular on Thursday, urging individuals not to form groups at common and waiting areas, and follow all the protocols “in letter and spirit” to avoid the spread of the virus.

“The Chief Justice has been pleased to order that due to the surge in Covid-19 cases in the NCT of Delhi, in order to contain and combat the spread of Covid cases, all the concerned, i.e., staff working in this court and members of the Bar, including their staff and the litigants are hereby directed to make use of face masks at all times in the premises of this court as a matter of caution, not to gather in large number at common areas, waiting areas of court blocks as far as possible and follow appropriate Covid protocols in letter and spirit to avoid any further spread of the virus,” the circular read.

  • Delhi Haj committee seeks LG’s intervention over notice to vacate its rented premises

Delhi Haj committee seeks LG’s intervention over notice to vacate its rented premises

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi State Haj Committee chairperson Kausar Jahan on Saturday met Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena seeking his intervention regarding a notice received by it for vacating its premises rented from the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).

The Haj committee is controlled by the BJP.

Later, in a press conference at the Delhi BJP office, Kausar, accompanied by the party’s national spokesperson Shazia Ilmi, accused the Arvind Kejriwal government of harassing the Haj committee.

    MS Education Academy

No immediate reaction was available from the DUSIB or the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the BJP leaders’ charges.

Kausar said the DUSIB had sent a notice to the committee asking it to vacate its premises at Haj Manjil at Turkman Gate over rent dues.

Condemning the notice during the month of Ramzan and when the Haj committee is busy with preparations for the Haj pilgrimage, Kausar urged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for withdrawal of the vacation notice.

Ilmi said the notice by the Delhi government agency was shameful as it was a religious body looking after pilgrimage of Muslims.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor alleged that the DUSIB notice was an act of vendetta by the AAP government since Kausar Jahan, a BJP leader, was elected chairperson of the Haj committee.

“It is regrettable that the Kejriwal government is so callous and considers Muslims as only a vote bank and having failed to get its own party man elected as Delhi Haj Committee chairperson, it has now resorted to issuing vacation notice to the Haj committee,” Kapoor charged.

Ilmi said that the Haj committee was established in 1995 by the then chief minister of Delhi, Madan Lal Khurana, in the building located at Turkman Gate and it has been serving the Haj pilgrims for almost three decades.

She claimed that this building is a property of the DUSIB and for the last eight years when the chairperson of the Delhi State Haj Committee was a member of the Aam Aadmi Party, it did not pay the rent. The rent dues in almost a decade have accumulated to Rs 1.31 crore.

The Haj committee is a department of the Delhi government and it is astonishing that one department of the government is giving notice to another department to vacate the office building for non-payment of rent, she added.

Delhi BJP Minority Morcha president Mohammad Haroon said the way the AAP government has given a notice to the Haj committee shows that it has no respect for the Muslim community. He warned of a protest if the notice was not withdrawn by the government.

BRS, SP skip Oppn meet at Kharge’s chamber in Parliament premises

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: After a week-long bonhomie among the opposition parties, the BRS and the Samajwadi Party on Monday skipped the meeting at leader of opposition (LoP) Mallikarjun Kharge’s chamber in Parliament House, but later both attended the joint press conference.

Trinamool has already been maintaining a distance, while the AAP was present in the meeting.

Apart from the Congress, the following parties attended the Monday meeting — DMK, RJD, CPI(M), CPI, NCP, JD(U), AAP, IUML, SS (Uddhav),JKNC, MDMK, RSP, Kerala Congress and JVCK.

The Samajwadi party (SP), which was absent in the meeting, later addressed the joint press conference of the opposition MPs at the Vijay Chowk.

The SP skipping the meeting following Akhilesh Yadav’s meeting with Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata is significant as it is trying to maintain distance with the Congress.

Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav said, “BJP is scared that if JPC investigates, the nexus between Adani and the Central government would get exposed and the real culprit would come before the people. The public is angry because they think that they would lose their money.”

Yadav added, “It is a strange situation when the government is not making a statement even when the public is perturbed. We are seeing for the first time that the government is not making any statement even when there is such a serious scam, let alone a probe. So, they definitely are guilty.”

Earlier, Kharge earlier told the mediapersons that the Congress has asked for time tomorrow (Tuesday) for Rahul Gandhi to speak in the Lok Sabha.

“If allowed, he (Rahul Gandhi) will speak in Parliament tomorrow,” Kharge said.

Gandhi had met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla last week, seeking time to speak in the House regarding his comments made in London earlier this month on democracy under attack in the country.

Hyderabad: CID conducts raid at premises of former Andhra minister Narayana’s daughter

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials conducted a raid at the residence of former Andhra Pradesh minister P Narayana’s daughter in Hyderabad on Friday in connection with an ongoing case.

These raids might be connected to the case related to an FIR filed against the former minister for an alleged paper leak case at the Narayana School in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, Andhra Pradesh Police registered a case under various sections including 10 AP Public examinations (Prevention of Malpractices), and section 408 (Criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

P Narayana is the founder and director of the Narayana Institutions.

In April last year, the question paper for Telugu was allegedly leaked in the school, and when the police found that the teacher clicked a photo of the question paper and shared it over social media, an hour later the exam started.

  • CPI(ML) Liberation decries IT raids on BBC premises

CPI(ML) Liberation decries IT raids on BBC premises

    [ad_1]

Patna: Liberation secretary general Dipankar Bhattacharya alleged that the Narendra Modi government’s “fear of truth” of the 2002 Gujarat riots was behind the ban on the BBC’s documentary and the surveys at its offices by the Income Tax department.

The Left leader made the remark on Wednesday while addressing a party rally organised on the theme ‘Loktantra Bachao Desh Bachao’ (save democracy, save the country) at the historic Gandhi Maidan here.

“Modi ji, his government and the BJP-RSS seem to be miffed at raking up of the communal carnage that took place 20 years ago. This led to the proscription of the documentary and, more recently, the IT raids. They have a fear of truth being known to the young generation who are not aware of what had happened in Gujarat back then.

“But, they should remember that children, to date, are taught about what happened in Hitler’s Germany so that people learn from the mistakes of the past. The Gujarat riots must not be forgotten till those who were guilty are thrown out of power,” said the CPI(ML) Liberation leader.

Later, talking to reporters, he also said that the treatment meted out to the internationally renowned broadcaster would “have an adverse impact on the image of the country at a time when the spotlight is on us because of the G20 presidency”.

At the rally, a political resolution was also passed by the party which now supports from outside the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ government headed by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The party said that since the BJP has ruled the state for long, its “fascist culture of governance” has deeply infested the system.

It suggested remedial measures like an immediate action to stop the “bulldozing of houses of Dalits without notice”, restoration of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee Act and release from jail of those arrested for violating prohibition as well as those booked under anti-terror laws for taking part in political movements.

Bhattacharya told reporters that the party will be holding a special convention on Saturday to strengthen “opposition unity” where dignitaries like the Bihar CM and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav have also been invited.

Replying to a query, he said, “Not having a face must not be construed as a weakness of the opposition. The BJP’s centralised form of leadership is dictatorial and must not be emulated.”.

At the rally, the Left leader defended the decision of his 12 MLAs strong party to refrain from joining the government.

“We did not win a single seat in the 2010 assembly polls. Ten years later, we fought 19 and won 12. Even our allies began saying that had we been given a few more seats to contest, we might have improved the tally of Mahagathbandhan and its then leader Tejashwi Yadav would have formed his own government,” he observed.

“But, we must remember that our party’s strength lies in the fact that we are able to rally around the people irrespective of electoral fortunes which tend to swing one way or the other. We cannot become like the BJP for whom winning elections is an end in itself,” he said.

He also lambasted the Modi government for “refusing to order an investigation” into the charges against Adani Group and alleged “they tend to think of themselves as emperors who expect the people to be silent in exchange for a few kilos of ration every month”.
