    Morbi: A court in Gujarat’s Morbi town on Wednesday sent managing director of Oreva Group Jaysukh Patel in seven-day police custody in a case related to the Morbi suspension bridge collapse which claimed 135 lives last year.

    Chief Judicial Magistrate M J Khan sent Patel in the custody of the special investigation team (SIT) formed by the state government to probe the case till February 8.

    The SIT had sought a 14-day remand, government prosecutor Sanjay Vora told reporters.

    As many as 135 people were killed and many others injured when a suspension bridge on a river collapsed in Gujarat’s Morbi town on October 30, 2022.

    Patel, whose company was responsible for the operation and maintenance of the bridge, surrendered before the court on Tuesday evening after the court issued an arrest warrant against him. He was later arrested by the police.

    As part of maintenance, the company carried out only cosmetic repairs of the bridge rather than changing the cable wires, the prosecution told the court, Vora said.

    Hyderabad: The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) police has booked a case against two truck drivers following the death of five cows and three bulls during shifting to a slaughter house at Bahadurpura.

    On Wednesday early hours, the RGIA sub inspector Dasari Apparao was on night patrol at Kishanguda flyover when he along with other policemen noticed a truck passing by suspiciously.

    The sub inspector immediately stopped the lorry and checked that nearly 74 cattle were found – 51 cows and 23 bulls.

    “Five cows and three bulls were found dead and the driver Syed Javid and Ibrahim Khan on instructions of a truck owner Imran transported the cattle from Hanuman Junction in Eluru to Bahadurpura,” said J Suheela, sub inspector, RGIA police station.

    “In that truck 74 cattle were tied together, one on top of the other so that they could not breathe and they covered the lorry with tarpaulin sheet,” J Suheela added.

    A case is booked under Sections 5,6,10, r/w 11 of Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act 1997, and Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

    Rajkot: A police team from Gujarat’s Rajkot has arrested fake currency notes case prime accused Ramesh Babu Kasturi from Hyderabad, an official said on Wednesday.

    Kasturi was arrested by the Telangana Police from Hyderabad in September 2022, but later released on bail and was back to printing fake currency notes.

    The A Division Police Sub Inspector B.H. Parmar and his team had brought Ramesh Babu Kasutri on transit remand from Telangana and he was produced before a Rajkot court on Wednesday and it granted police 10 days remand, said police sources.

    On January 20, Rajkot police had unearthed fake currency rackets, when two persons attempted to deposit fake currency with face value of Rs 2.50 lakh with an ‘Angadia Pedhi’ (traditional courier service) for money transfer. In this connection, police had arrested five persons, including one from Pune.

    Kasturi and his sister K Rameshwari entered into fake currency notes printing, post pandemic, as they were in a financial crisis. Then, Telangana Police believed that the duo must have infused fake currency with a face value of at least Rs 60 to 70 lakh in the market, said sources.

    Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Promotes 366 Police Personnel

    Jammu, January 31, 2019: SJM Gillani, Additional Director General of Police, Armed, J&K, has ordered the promotion of 366 police officers.

    According to a statement, the promotion orders of one ASI and 365 Head Constables to the posts of SI and ASI were issued after the DPC, headed by ADGP Armed, assessed the cases of eligible ASIs and HCs and found them fit for promotion to their next ranks in light of the relevant promotion norms.

    The ADGP congratulated the newly promoted SIs and ASIs and hoped that they would demonstrate discipline, hard work, and dedication towards their assignments and always come up to the expectations of the people.

    Meanwhile, the police officer said that the promotion process for SgCTs and constables of the J&K Armed Police is also underway at the Armed Police Headquarters.

    Islamabad: The police in Pakistan’s east Punjab province foiled a terrorist attack in the Mianwali district on Tuesday night, officials said.

    The terrorists launched an attack on the police station with sophisticated weapons and tried to enter the building by taking advantage of the night, spokesperson for Inspector General Police Punjab, Usman Anwar told media.

    He added several terrorists were injured in the incident, who fled the spot with the help of their accomplices, Xinhua news agency reported.

    No group has claimed the attack yet.

    Capitol Police arrested a man Monday evening near the Hill accused of impersonating law enforcement and possessing multiple weapons.

    Secret Service had already wanted to question the suspect, identified by authorities as 37-year-old Max Eli Viner, when Capitol Police spotted him near the building Monday evening, according to a Tuesday release from the department. When he was searched, Capitol Police officers found multiple knives with him and a chain saw blade.

    Secret Service officers arrived later and searched Viner’s vehicle, where they found fake police equipment, shell casings, a smoke grenade and a gas mask. The release did not specify why Secret Service wanted to question him.

    Jammu: A house was damaged amid heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, prompting the police to reach out to the family with essential items on Tuesday, officials said.

    Due to the heavy snowfall on Monday, the house of Lal Din in Singpora area was damaged, they said, adding that a police team provided necessary items likes blankets, ration and other household items to the family.

    Senior Superintendent of Police Kishtwar Khalil Poswal assured all possible help in future to them.

    A police team along with members of a NGO also visited Singpora, Passerkote and Vohal areas and took stock of the losses due to the recent snowfall.

    Hyderabad: The state police will provide high security to the new Telangana Secretariat Building that is likely to be inaugurated on February 17. 

    Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari discussed the security arrangements relating to the Dr B R Ambedkar Secretariat Complex on Tuesday.

    Three companies of Telangana Special Police and 300 city police personnel will take care of the security of the Secretariat building. In all 22 personnel from traffic police have been allotted for the purpose. The security equipment like baggage scanners, vehicle scanners, body scanners will be put to use.

    The authorities set up six sentry posts have been set up around the Secretariat. In all 300 CCTV cameras have been installed to oversee the security arrangements.

    A special command control room has been set up to oversee the security arrangements. Monitoring of visitors will be done through Special identity cards. Two fire Engines with 34 staff along with fire safety arrangements in Secretariat building have been made. Special arrangements have been made for physically challenged people. Visitors will be allowed in all floors except the sixth floor. 

    During the meeting Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar, special chief secretary (MAUD) Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary IT Jayesh Ranjan, R and B Secretary Srinivas Raju, CP CV Anand, SPF DG Umesh Sharaf, Additional DG Sanjay Kumar Jain, Director General of Fire Services Nagi Reddy, Additional DGP Intelligence Anil Kumar, and others attended the meeting.

    The Secretariat complex which is spread over 28 acres has a built up area of 9.42 lakh sft Parking arrangements has provision to park 560 cars and more than 900 two wheelers.

    Srinagar, Jan 31: Director General of Police J&K Dilbag Singh while acting swiftly on the reports of misconduct by an police official Tuesday issued serious directions to all ranks and files in the police force to act seriously against any official found involved in any sorts of misconduct.

    A senior police official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), thay the DGP
    has directed all Wing heads to take serious note of any kind of misconduct with the general public brought into their notice by any means. “He has directed the officers to sensitize and advise their subordinate officers/officials to be fair in their conduct,” the official quouting DGP as having said.

    The official said that the DGP has directed that any act of misconduct must be taken with utmost seriousness to safeguard and improve the image of J&K police.

    “PHQ has issued an advisory to all the Wing Heads of the J&K Police in this regard,” he said.

    “Let us have respect for the spirit of law while enforcing “Rule of Law”, the DGP has said.

    The directions have come in view of a case of misconduct by an SHO and other Police Station staff members in Ramban district with a doctor, the official said.

    “The erring personnel have been suspended and a departmental enquiry has been initiated by the DIG, D-K-R range,” he said.

    The DGP has said that “we are supposed to safeguard and protect against any wrong doings and injustice and have to be seen as Rakshak by the common people as has been said by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi”—(KNO)
