Srinagar, Apr 22: Barring the historic Jamia Masjid Nowhatta, Eid-ul-Fitr prayers were offered by the believers in huge numbers across Jammu and Kashmir amid overcast weather conditions. While the special congregational prayers at many places offered in spacious Eidgahs, prayers at many other places were held inside mosques in the aftermath of the wet prayer grounds in the aftermath of incessant downpour for last several days.

Thousands of Muslims, as per GNS, had gathered at Hazratbal and other mosques and shrines across the valley, including at the Dast-e-Geer Sahib and Sayed Yaqoob Shah shrines since early morning to offer special prayers.
The prayers were also held at other mosques and shrines in Srinagar including at Masjid Jamiat-e-Ahle Hadith Gawkadal, Asar-e-Sharif Janab Sahib Soura, Asar-e-Sharif Shehri Kalashpora, Ziarat-e-Makhdoom Sahib (RA) and Khanqah-e-Maula.

In north Kashmir, the prayers were held at Jamia Masjid Bandipora, Jamia Masjid Baramulla, Jamia Masjid Kupwara, Masjid ul Murshideen Khushaal Sahib Bumhama, Jamia Masjid Handwara and other local mosques.

In south Kashmir, prayers were held at Jamia Masjid Hanfia, Jamia Masjid Ahle Hadith, Bait-ul-Mukarram and Rehat-Ded Masjid in Anantnag town. The prayers were also offered in Ziarat-e-Sharief Khiram Kund, Aishmuqam and Bijbehara areas of the south Kashmir district.

In Kulgam, the prayers were held in Markazi Jamia Masjid. Large congregational prayer gatherings were also witnessed in Khankah Tral, Jamia Masjid Shopian and Jamia Masjid Pulwama.

In Srinagar, authorities denied permission for Eid prayers in Jamia Masjid Nowhatta, after initially hinting to allow the prayers in the historic mosque.

Reports said the gates of the mosque were closed early morning by the security grid and deployments were made in and around the mosque to implement the orders by the authorities.

Voicing his concern over the decision of authorities to shut the Jamia Masjid on Eid eve, Grand Mufti, J&K, Nasir-ul-Islam said given the prevailing situation in the Valley, the authorities ought to have allowed the prayers at the historic mosque. “Why is it that the authorities withdrew the permission at the eleventh hour”, Islam said.

“Peaceful conduct of prayers was witnessed in the prayers recently held at the mosque, which indicated that the prayers should have been allowed”, Islam said adding “The occasion of Eid is a joyous occasion and withholding the prayers on such an occasion mars the very essence of such a blissful eve.”

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, and other police and several civil officers besides politial and social organisations extended greetings to people on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, wishing them well-being and prosperity.

“Heartiest greetings and good wishes to the people on the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. The festival marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan and symbolizes the spirit of austerity, brotherhood, compassion and joy of sharing”, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said in his message.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Vijay Kumar Friday extended greetings to people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. “ADGP Kashmir Shri Vijay Kumar greets people on the eve of Eid-Ul-Fitr. #EidMubarak,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

The Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta expressed hope that the festival would lead everyone to happiness and success.

He also expressed optimism that the festival would strengthen the bond between all religious communities and teach people the relevance of communal harmony, tolerance, kindness and service to mankind as the real essence of the festival.

Chairperson of J&K Waqf Board Dr Darakhshan Andrabi in her message prayed that the sacred occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr brings along everlasting peace, happiness and prosperity to the people of J&K.

She further prayed for acceptance of month long fasts and charity while hoping that Ramadan will leave its pious impressions on the society for the whole year ahead and also requested people to remember downtrodden people on this occasion.

Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar city Rakesh Bhalwal in his message expressed hope that the auspicious occasion would strengthen the bonds of communal harmony and brotherhood and be a harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity in the UT. The SSP urged the people to keep up with the values of communal harmony, brotherhood and human values.

He further said that the festival reminds us to share our joys with the destitute and deserving. “The occasion teaches us to rededicate ourselves for the service of people, reaffirm our commitment towards brotherhood and selfless service to humanity.”

Meanwhile several social and political organisations have also extended their felicitations to the people on the special eve. (GNS)

  • After Ram Navami clashes, Hanuman Jayanti celebrated peacefully

After Ram Navami clashes, Hanuman Jayanti celebrated peacefully

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: The Hanuman Jayanti celebrations passed off peacefully in West Bengal as security forces maintained a strict vigil across the state to avoid a rerun of the violence that marked the Ram Navami festival last week.

Following a Calcutta High Court order, three companies of central armed police forces were deployed in parts of Kolkata, Hooghly and Barrackpore to assist the state police in maintaining law and order during the day.

“The celebrations have been peaceful. No untoward incident happened,” a senior police official said.

    MS Education Academy

The peaceful Hanuman Jayanti celebrations in presence of central forces were in sharp contrast to the violence and arson during the Ram Navami festival in Howrah and Hooghly, sparking a fresh war of words between the ruling TMC and the opposition BJP.

The saffron camp questioned the administrative capabilities of the Mamata Banerjee-led state government. The TMC, on the other hand, claimed that while the BJP leaders “fomented trouble” during Ram Navami, they behaved like “good boys” on Hanuman Jayanti on realising that the violence was backfiring politically on the party.

Governor CV Ananda Bose visited different parts of Kolkata in the morning, oversaw the security measures, and interacted with the citizens.

“People are cooperating. I think today will be a very happy day. Bengal will set the trend in peace and harmony in society,” he told reporters while visiting Ekbalpore area in south Kolkata. Earlier, he went to a Hanuman temple at Lake Town on the eastern fringe of the city and offered puja.

Bose, who had visited Rishra and Serampore areas which had witnessed violence over Ram Navami processions recently, is likely to go to Delhi on Friday, a Raj Bhavan source said.

The chief minister’s office also kept a sharp eye on the previously affected districts and top police officers constantly monitored the situation to ensure there was no untoward incident.

“The extra precautions paid off,” said a top West Bengal Police officer.

The situation in certain areas of Rishra and Serampore in Hooghly district is peaceful on Thursday. Prohibitory orders are still imposed in those areas, and internet is suspended, police said.

Senior BJP leader Locket Chatterjee sat on demonstration after the police stopped her from visiting her Hooghly Lok Sabha constituency to attend Hanuman Jayanti celebrations, citing the law and order situation following clashes between two groups during Ram Navami celebrations in the district earlier this week.

She said, “The police stopped me though I am the local MP. I was invited to attend the Hanuman Jayanti programme there. But the police are asking me to go back. Why is an elected representative stopped from visiting her constituency?”

The BJP leader told reporters that she informed the governor about the incident, and he had said he would look into it.

Videos showing a procession at Bansberia in Hooghly, in which participants were carrying arms have surfaced.

Police said one such rally was organised and 10 people were arrested on the charge of violating the Arms Act.

Senior officers of the Hooghly and Barrackpore Police Commissionerate in North 24 Parganas accompanied the central forces deployed there.

In Kolkata, the central forces were deployed in Amherst Street, Jorasanko, Park Circus, Kidderpore and port areas, an official said.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) said it has organised 500 Hanuman Jayanti programmes across the state.

“All the programmes and rallies were held as per the directions given by the administration. We took out a few small rallies. No major congregation was organised,” VHP state spokesperson Sourish Mukherjee told PTI.

Special pujas were also being held at Hanuman temples across West Bengal on the occasion, a phenomenon relatively new to the state.

The BJP said it has not organised any rally, but its leaders might have participated in Hanuman Jayanti celebrations.

The peaceful celebrations also became fodder for the war of words between the TMC and the BJP.

“During Ram Navami celebrations, state police were in charge, and we have seen what had happened. The state police behaved like cadres of the ruling party, and thus the law and order situation in the state had gone for a toss last week,” BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh said.

The TMC accused the BJP of fomenting trouble during the Ram Navami celebrations and behaving like “good boys” on Hanuman Jayanti.

“During Ram Navami, the BJP, VHP and their affiliates created problems by defying police directives. But today, as central forces are on the watch, they didn’t get involved in such misadventure and behaved like good boys,” TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh said.

Thousands of youngsters on two-wheelers took part in the main procession which started at Ram Mandir in Gowliguda around 12:30 pm, and traversed through Putlibowli crossroads, Andhra Bank crossroads, and Kacheguda crossroads in 2 hours.

Jamshedpur: Ram Navami immersion passes peacefully, ‘bandh’ call lifted

    [ad_1]

Jamshedpur: After discussions with state government officials, the Central Ramanavami Akhara Committee (CRAC) on Friday said it has withdrawn its call for a Jamshedpur ‘bandh’ and agreed to immerse its Ram Navami flags along with other akharas (religious groups).

Earlier, CRAC which is headed by a local BJP leader, had decided not to take out Ramanavami procession to protest seizure of truck with a music system and trailer which belonged to Sri Bal Mandir.

CRAC supported by a few more religious oraganisations had staged dharna on the industrial city’s roads including in Jugsalai in support their demands and raised anti-administration slogans as well as announced a dusk to dawn shut down of Jamshedpur city on Saturday.

However, at a meeting held in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav, Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar, BJP MP Bidyut Baran Mahato and CRAC Patron and local BJP leader Abhay Singh and others in district collectorate late in the evening of Friday, the matter was resolved and CRAC agreed to take out the procession tonight.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Mahato said the issue has been settled amicably and Ramnavami procession will be taken out tonight.

Mahato attributed that the misunderstanding was caused because of “confusion and miscommunication”.

CRAC’s Abhay Singh confirmed that procession will be taken out tonight and tomorrow’s bandh called off.

Earlier, security was tightened in the steel city on Friday ahead of Ramanavami processions being taken out especially in sensitive and super sensitive areas.

Areas like Mango, Hanuman Mandir, Munshi Mohalla masjid, Daiguttu and Shastri Nagar are considered super sensitive, while Kharangajhar, Telco, Dhatkidih and Sakchi are sensitive areas.

The district administration had set up temporary CCTV and night vision cameras in these areas to keep a vigil on mischief makers, an official statement said.

Besides drones were also deployed for surveillance of the processions.

The police also staged flag marches in the city on Thursday and deployed rapid action force to ensure peaceful conduct of Ramanavami processions.

Jamshedpur has a long history of riots and clashes on Ram navami.

Former President Donald Trump’s supporters should be able to protest “peacefully” if Trump is arrested for his involvement in possibly paying hush money during his 2016 presidential campaign, Sen. Mark Kelly said Sunday.

Trump’s supporters, “have First Amendment rights, and they should be able to exercise those peacefully,” Kelly (D-Ariz.) said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” But law enforcement officials should be prepared to “make sure it doesn’t rise to the level of violence,” he added.

Kelly pointed out that levying charges against the former president would be “unprecedented,” acknowledging that “there’s certainly risks involved” in doing so. However, “we’re a country of laws and nobody is above the law,” Kelly said.
