MP: Cong takes out silent march to protest vandalisation of its Jabalpur office

    [ad_1]

Jabalpur: Congress leaders on Sunday took out a silent march in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur to protest the vandalisation of their city office. The party has blamed Bajrang Dal for the vandalism.

The Congress has been facing backlash from BJP and right-wing outfits for bracketing Bajrang Dal with the Popular Front of India (PFI) in its manifesto for the May 10 Karnataka polls.

The party leaders started from Shahid Smarak and ended their protest at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Town Hall, said a Congress functionary.

    MS Education Academy

“Congressmen are Gandhians. We are not going to storm their office. We are going to do a peaceful protest till 200-odd Bajrang Dal men, some of them history-sheeters, are not arrested,” mayor and city Congress president Jagat Bahadur Singh told PTI.

The Congress has also demanded action against two inspectors from Kotwali and Lordganj police stations. These inspectors were deputed at the “Bajrang Dal’s protest site but were conspicuous by their absence”, Singh said.

After the Congress’ office in the Baldeo Bagh area was vandalised on Thursday, the Bajrang Dal had claimed that it was involved in the act.

Two days ago, police said that they had arrested 10 persons, including prime accused Sumit Singh Thakur who is the “vibhag prachar pramukh” of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Bajrang Dal is the youth wing of the VHP.

Earlier, a police official had said that they had booked 25 people on the basis of video footage and a complaint for rampaging through the Congress city office.

Additional Superintendent of Police Priyanka Shukla could not be reached contacted despite repeated attempts to know how many people have been arrested till date.

The protesting Congress workers included Rajya Sabha member Vivek Tankha and MLAs Tarun Bhanot, Sanjay Yadav, and Lakhan Gangoria.

Cyclonic storm ‘Mocha’ won’t affect TN: Regional Met office

    [ad_1]

Chennai: The cyclonic system prevailing over Bay of Bengal that is likely to intensify into cyclonic storm by May 9 will not have an impact on Tamil Nadu, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) here said on Sunday.

The cyclonic storm, named ‘Mocha’, according to the RMC, will have less impact on Tamil Nadu as it will move towards the northern direction.

It is likely to intensify into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea around May 9 and later expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm while moving nearly northwards towards central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea.

    MS Education Academy

As the cyclonic storm may not have any impact on Tamil Nadu, the maximum temperature in the state’s interior and coastal districts is expected to surge by two to four degrees Celsius.

The RMC officials said that ‘Mocha’ is at the preliminary stage and the other parameters of the cyclone will be made public only after it develops into a strong cyclone.

Indians second largest group crossing English Channel: Home Office data

    [ad_1]

London: The number of Indians illegally crossing over into the UK across the English Channel has increased sharply in the first three months of the year, making them the second biggest cohort after Afghans, according to the latest Home Office statistics.

Between January 1 and March 31, 2023, the most common nationality arriving via small boat was Afghans (909, 24 per cent) followed by Indians (675, 18 per cent), the new data revealed.

A total of 3,793 people were detected arriving in small boats in the same period, a Home Office statement said, adding that the “crossings are generally higher in better weather.”

    MS Education Academy

In 2022, almost half of small boat arrivals were Albanians (28 per cent of the total, although these arrivals occurred mostly between July and September 2022) and Afghans (20 per cent, with their numbers greater towards the end of the year).

The top five nationalities now illegally crossing the Channel in small boats include, Afghanistan, India, Iran, Iraq and Syria.

While the final statistics are due to be published on May 25 this year, a last month Home Office data showed 683 Indians arriving in the country on small boats in 2022, as compared to 67 in 2021.

In February this year, Indians allegedly became the third-largest group of migrants entering UK shores illegally after Afghans and Syrians, The Times report said citing Home Office sources.

The report had said that about 250 Indian migrants made the perilous crossing in small boats this year alone, outnumbering the 233 who arrived via small boats in the first nine months of last year

The Home Office had said a reason for spike in numbers could be Serbia’s visa-free travel rules for Indians.

Until December last year, all Indian passport holders could enter Serbia without a visa for up to 30 days but this arrangement ended on January 1, resulting in some Indians travelling in small boats into the EU and then to the UK, according to Home Office sources.

“We have seen a spike of Indian nationals coming across in small boats over the last few months,” the Home Office source had told The Times.

Hyderabad: Bajrang dal, BJP activists recite Hanuman Chalisa at Cong office; detained

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) activists who were a part of Bajrang Dal gathered outside the Congress party office in the city on Friday and recited Hanuman Chalisa following which they were detained by the cops.

The crowd were protesting against the Congress’s manifesto mentioning the ban on Bajrang Dal, while they cried out the description, calling themselves devotees of lord Ram and Hanuman.

Shouting out loud, the activists lay on the road while police tried to stop them. The cops faced a tough time as they had to drag the activists into a DCM truck as they refused to move from their place.

    MS Education Academy

Additionally, lady constables also interfered to move the female activists who were among the protestors while their companions cried out, ‘Ram ki jai’.

    Congress members respond

Countering the BJP members and the Bajrang dal, the Telangana Congress Women wing members on Friday said that even they are devotees of lord Ram, asserting that Hanuman Chalisa can be recited by anyone and it doesn’t have to do anything with a particular party.

Stating that there is no significance in linking the Hanuman Chalisa, (one of the popular Hindu devotional hymns dedicated to Lord Hanuman) with the ban, one of the members of the Telangana Congress women’s wing read out the entire Chalisa while her fellow mates accompanied her.

Bajrang Dal announced a nationwide protest

The Karnataka Congress unit in its manifesto stated that it would ban the Bajrang Dal and compared the group to the PFI. The PFI was recently banned by the Union government for its alleged anti-national activities.

The Bajrang Dal announced a nationwide protest and protests are held across the country for the past couple of days.

On Wednesday, the Telangana Bajrang Dal activists held protests in all districts and the city. The Bajrang Dal workers stormed the Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday.

The police took over 300 of the activists into custody and shifted them to various police stations. All of them were let off later.

Following the developments, the police pickets continued at the Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday as well.

India and Egypt, two of the world’s oldest civilizations, have enjoyed a history of close contact from ancient times. With a population of around 110 million, a location that straddles Africa and Asia, and a capital that hosts the League of Arab States, Egypt is a pivotal player in development.

It is also a country with which India enjoyed an exceptionally close relationship since immediately after its Independence. This is only natural, as the two countries were cofounders of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in the 1950s.

Even, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi attended India’s 74th Republic Day parade as the chief guest. He was the first Egyptian premier to have been invited to the Republic Day parade.
