Night Temp Hovers Below Normal Amid Dry Weather Forecast In JK

SRINAGAR: Amidst the forecast for mainly dry weather, night temperatures hovered below normal in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
A meteorological department here said that the weather was likely to remain mainly dry till May 12.
From May 13-15, he said, there was a possibility of rain and thunderstorm at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir.
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 6.4°C against 6.3°C on the previous night and it was 4.3°C below normal for the summer capital.
Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 4.0°C against 5.8°C on the previous night and it was below normal by 5.2°C for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of minus 0.3°C against 1.8°C on the previous night and it was 5.8°C below normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 4.2°C against 4.7°C as on the previous night and it was 5.1°C below normal for the north Kashmir area.
Kokernag recorded a low of 4.9°C against 4.0°C on the previous night and it was 4.9°C below normal for the place, the officials said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 1.0°C against minus 0.5°C on the previous night and it was 4.2°C below normal for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.
Jammu recorded a low of 15.8°C against 17.4°C on the previous night and it was 7.2°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.
Banihal recorded a low of 8.4°C (below normal by 2.5°C), Batote 9.7°C (3.1°C below normal), Katra 15.0°C (4.7°C below normal), and Bhaderwah 6.0°C (below normal by 3.6°C). Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of minus 3.8°C, he added. (GNS)

‘Indo-China relations are not normal…’: Jaishankar at SCO meet

Panaji: Reiterating his stand on India-China border issues, External Affairs Minister S Jaishnakar on Friday made it clear again that the ties between the two countries cannot be normal until peace and tranquillity are maintained on the Land of Actual Control (LAC).
Addressing a press conference at the conclusion of the Foriegn Ministers’ Meeting under the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), S Jaishankar was asked to share details about his talks with Chinese Foriegn Minister Qin Gang.
To this, the EAM replied, “The issue is that there is an abnormal position in the border areas, along the boundary. We had a very frank discussion about it…We have to take the disengagement process forward.

“I have made it very clear, publically as well, that India-China relations are not normal and cannot be normal if peace and tranquillity in the border areas are disturbed…” Jaishankar added.
“I have been very consistent about it and I have not changed my position in this meeting either,” he added.
Regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Jaishankar said, “It was made very clear twice that connectivity is good for progress but it cannot violate the integrity and sovereignty of states.”
“This has been our long-standing position and nobody should have any doubt about it and I assure you nobody in this room has any doubt about it. I made sure of that,” Jaishanakar added.
China’s CPEC projects in Pakistan have slowed down due to the prevailing economic crisis in the neighbouring country.

Pakistan has been slow to complete infrastructure projects and China has been slow to fund new ones, reported Foreign Policy.
Citing a case in point, the report said a reactor that was inaugurated by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in February was funded by China to strengthen Pakistan’s energy security. The work on the reactor began in 2016 after the launch of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The slowing pace of the CPEC projects is not only because of the ongoing economic crisis in Pakistan as it cannot afford the infrastructure loans extended to it, but also due to Beijing’s own economic slowdown.

Night Temperatures Remain Below Normal, More Rains from May 6

SRINAGAR: Amid forecasts for mainly clear weather with a chance of a brief spell of rain and thunderstorms in the evening, night temperatures continued to remain below normal in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
A meteorological department official stated that rain was expected at many places from May 6-8, and from May 9-12, the weather was expected to be mainly dry. The weather conditions were also favourable for spraying and harvesting, and farmers can take advantage of this on May 9-12.
Regarding temperature, Srinagar recorded a low of 9.6°C, which was 0.1°C below normal for the summer capital, compared to the previous night when it was 10.3°C.
Qazigund recorded a low of 7.8°C, which was below normal by 0.7°C for the gateway town of Kashmir, compared to 7.2°C on the previous night.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 3.6°C, which was 1.3°C above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, compared to 2.0°C on the previous night.
Kokernag recorded a low of 7.0°C, which was 1.4°C below normal for the place, compared to 6.7°C on the previous night.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 2.2°C, which was 2.1°C below normal for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, compared to 3.8°C on the previous night.
In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 7.4°C, which was 1.0°C below normal for the north Kashmir area, compared to 9.6°C on the previous night.

Jammu recorded a low of 17.3°C, which was 5.3°C below normal for J&K’s winter capital, compared to 17.6°C on the previous night.
Banihal recorded a low of 7.7°C, which was below normal by 2.4°C; Batote 9.7°C, which was 2.8°C below normal; Katra 15.1°C, which was 4.1°C below normal, and Bhaderwah 8.0°C, which was below normal by 1.2°C.

From May 3-4, he said, there is possibility of widespread light to moderate rain and thunder in J&K. “Some places are likely to receive heavy rains,” he said.

Overall, he said, weather is very likely to remain erratic till May 4.

The White House said on Thursday that it was “entirely normal” for a president to be briefed about the journalists who would ask questions at news conferences, a day after President Joe Biden was seen holding a paper with what appeared to be a reporter’s question.
“It’s entirely normal for a president to be briefed on reporters who will be asking questions at a press conference and issues we expect they might ask about,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at a briefing on Thursday.
The comments come after Biden was seen on Wednesday holding a note card titled “question 1″ regarding a Los Angeles Times reporter’s information during a joint news conference with President Yoon Suk Yeol of South Korea.

Rains Lash J&K, Temp Stays Below Normal As MeT Forecasts ‘Erratic Weather’ Till May 4

Srinagar, April 27: Intermittent rains lashed Jammu and Kashmir since last afternoon, mostly during the night, while night temperature stayed below normal on Thursday, officials said. Also, “erratic weather” has been forecast in J&K till May 4.
A meteorological department official here told GNS that in last 24 hours till 8:30 a.m. this morning, Srinagar recorded 39.7mm of rain, Qazigund 20.8mm, Pahalgam 19.3mm, Kupwara 21.0mm, Kokernag 31.6mm, Gulmarg 43.6mmJammu 3.8mm, Banihal 21.8mm, Batote 32.6mm, Katra 16.2mm, Bhaderwah 43.2mm and Kathua 3.8mm.
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 7.0°C against 7.9°C on the previous night and it was 2.3°C below normal for the summer capital.

The MeT department has predicted that weather was likely to remain “erratic” till May 4.
From April 27-28, the official said, intermittent rain, thunderstorm and snowfall (over higher reaches) was very likely at most places of J&K. However, he said, there is no forecast of major snowfall.
From April 29-3, he said, weather is likely to be partly to generally cloudy with possibility of intermittent rain, thunderstorm at scattered places.
“Overall, weather is very likely to remain erratic from April 27-May 4 in J&K,” he said. Also, the department has urged farmers to postpone spraying of orchards till May 4. (GNS)
