  • NIA seizes 3 vehicles used for militant activities in Kashmir

    Srinagar, Feb 18: The National Investigation Agency on Saturday said it seized three vehicles used by some accused persons for militant activities in the Kashmir Valley.

    In a statement, issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said that the vehicles were seized under section 25 (1) of the UAPA in case under investigation of NIA viz RC-01/2020/NIA/JMU.

    The statements read these vehicles were used by accused persons for the furtherance of militant activities in the Kashmir Valley.

    “The case pertains to arrest of 04 accused persons, including two active terrorists of Hizb-ul- Mujahideen (HM), who were going out of J&K in order to commit militant acts, in a Hyundai i20 Car. Based on information, this car was intercepted at Al-Stop naka on Srinagar-Jammu Highway near Mir Bazar Police Post Kulgam on 11.01.2020. During search, one AK-47 Rifle, 03 pistols, 01 hand grenade, ammunition and other incriminating material were recovered and seized,” it reads.

    It reads the case was initially registered in PS Qazigund on 11.01.2020 and re-registered by NIA on 17.01.2020.

    “Investigations have revealed that the Hyundai i20 owned and used by accused Irfan Shafi Mir, Maruti 800 registered in the name of Mushtaq Ahmad Shah and used by his son accused Syed Naveed Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, and Hyundai i20 Sportz registered and used by Tanveer Ahmad Wani of Humhama were used for militant activities. Further investigations in the case are in progress,” it added—(KNO)

    Srinagar, February 13(GNS): Police on monday claimed to have arrested two Jash-e-Mohammad Militant associates along with huge cache of arms and ammunition in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

    In a handout to GNS, thw police said that on specific input regarding delivery of consignment of weapons in general area of Pulwama , a special team of Pulwama Police & Army ( 55RR) was formed and deployed in covert at different suspicious locations. At Naina Bhatpora jurisdiction of PS Litter, two scooty born suspect were seen moving along with the consignment bag. The covert team swung into action and tactfully nabbed the duo and recovered the cache.

    According to police spokesman, the two suspects disclosed their name as Showkat Ahmed Digoo son of Abdul Wahab Digoo resident of Naina (30) driver by profession and his cousin name held (Juvenile) resident of Sethar. While questioning Showkat Ahmed disclosed that he was in contact with Jailed OGW Firdous Ahmed Bhat S/O Abdul Ahad Bhat R/O Naina presently lodged in central Jail Rajouri in case FIR No 118/2021 of P/S Litter. Suspect was working for JeM outfit and this huge cache of Arms and ammunition recovered was for further distribution and to carry out attacks on Police and security forces.

    The details of recovery are as 25 Chinese Grenade, one Pistol, 02 Pistol Magazines, 230Catridges of Pistol, 10 AK Magazine and 300 AKCartridges, reads the statement.(GNS)

    Militant hideout busted in Poonch’s Mendhar

    Poonch, Feb 09: Security forces on Thursday busted a militant hideout in Naka Manjari village of Mendhar in Poonch district and recovered rusted ammunition from it.

    Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a team of army and police launched operation in Naka Manjari and busted the hideout in which a body pouch of militants was found.

    In this pouch, officials said, four AK rifle magazines, some bullets, two grenades, some explosive material, one binocular and other material was recovered.

    They said most of the material is old and rusted, while search operation in the area is still going on—(KNO)

    Srinagar, Feb 08: The Centre on Wednesday informed Rajya Sabha that 27 persons including 25 security personnel and two civilians were killed in militant attacks across Jammu since August 05, 2019.

    In a written reply, Minister of State in the Ministry Of Home Affairs (MHA), Nityanand Rai, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that a total of 25 security personnel including two from Jammu-one each in 2019 and 2022, 2 in Rajouri in 2020, five in 2021 & four in 2022, 9 Poonch in 2021, 1 in Ramban in 2019, 1 in Kishtwar in 2020 and 1 Doda in 2020 were killed in militant attacks post August 5, 2019.

    He also saoid two civilians were in Jammu region , which include one in Rajouri in 2021 and one in Udhampur in 2022.

    He further said 48 security personnel have also been injured in militant attacks, which include 10 in 2019, four in 2020, 14 in 2021 and 15 in 2022 and 20 civilians have also been injured including one in 2020, nine in 2021 & 19 in 2022.

    Replying to another question, the MoS Home said that the Village Defence Group Scheme, notified by the Government of J&K
    in the year 1995, did not envisage constitution of the Village Defence
    Committees (VDC).

    “However, in terms of the Scheme ibid, Village Defence Groups (VDGs) were to be constituted. Village Defence Groups, in terms of the Scheme of 1995, have already been constituted in the Districts of Poonch and Rajouri of the Jammu Division for the protection of Villages,” it added.

    “As per Village Defence Guards Scheme (VDGs), notified by the
    Government of UT of J&K on 14.08.2022, apart from the areas/village already declared as vulnerable areas in the Scheme of 1995, any other area/village, which may be considered more vulnerable area by the law enforcement agencies, necessitating application of the Scheme ibid to such other area/village, the Government can by an order declare such other area/village as a “more vulnerable area” for the purpose of the Scheme ibid,” he said—(KNO)

    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday claimed have arrested three militant associates of proscribed outfit LeT in Srinagar and recovered cash amount of rupees 31,65,200/= and other incriminating materials from their possession.

    A police spokesman in a statement said that a police party of Police Station Nowgam during routine checking at Lasjan Crossing (NHW) spotted three suspicious individuals coming from Lasjan towards NHW carrying a blue colour cricket kit bag trying to avoid the naka checking party.

    The spokesman in a statement said that they were tactfully apprehended by the alert naka party. They have been identified as Umar Adil Dar son of Ghulam Hassan Dar resident of Soiteng, Bilal Asmad Sidiqi son of Ghulam Ahmad Sididqi resident of Kursoo Rajbagh and Salik Mehraj son of Mehraj Din Dar resident of Soiteng.

    “During checking of the said kit bag carried by Umer Adil Dar, Indian currency cash amounting ₹31,65,200/= (Thirty-One Lac, Sixty-Five thousand and two hundred rupees), 01 Mobile Phone, 03 pages of LeT letter pad was recovered. On personal search of the other two persons namely Bilal Asmad Sidiqi & Salik Mehraj (05) pages each of LeT letter pad were recovered,” said the spokesman.

    He said that during preliminary investigation, it came to fore that the trio was working as militant associates of proscribed outfit LeT.

    He added that the money was received by them as a part of conspiracy to strengthen its cadres within District Srinagar.

    “The said money was received by them on the directions of their handlers based in Pakistan as a part of larger criminal conspiracy hatched by militant organization within and across the border to pass/ raise money/ funds for furthering their activities and cause large scale disturbances in the UT of J&K,” he further added.

    “In this connection, a case FIR No. 20/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Nowgam. Further investigation into the case is in progress. More recoveries and arrests are expected in the instant case,” said the spokesman.

    Pulwama: 7th February, 2023: Police Station Rajpora received a written complaint from one (Name withheld for security reasons) wherein stated that at about 1930 Hrs while on way to home from his clinic, some unknown person intercepted him and threatened him with weapons and asked for money & other valuable items & fled away from the spot by taking his valet containing Rs 3300/- and mobile phone.

    Upon this report, a Case FIR No 8/2023 under relevant sections of law stands registered in PS Rajpora and investigation set into motion.

    During the course of investigation, several persons were rounded up, one among them identified as Adil Ah Dar s/o M Yousuf Dar r/o Bellow was interrogated professionally, who revealed that he has committed the said crime using toy pistols.
    Upon his disclosure following articles were recovered:

    • 1. Toy pistols= 2 nos
    • 2. valets = 3 nos,
    • 3. Redmi Mobile phone 1
    • 4. Cash of Rs 3330.
    • 5. JKBank ATM =1 no

    6. Adhar card, 7. SBI ATM Card, 8. Driving Liscence, 9. Pan Card , 10.Election Card , 11. Jio Sim card.belonging to complainant.

    12. Voucher bearing no 678 of Altaf Electric works Shopain. Further investigation into the matter is in progress.

    General public are requested not to fall in any such trap and to inform concerned Police Station about any such incident.
