  • SIU Files Chargesheet Against Active LeT Militant, Hybrid In Sopore: Police

    Srinagar April 27(GNS) Special Investigation Unit of police on Thrusday presented chargesheet before the Court of NIA Court Baramulla in case FIR No. 251/2022 of Police Station Sopore against two accused persons including a hybrid militant and an active LeT militant.

    In a handout to GNS, the police said that on the 7th of November 2022, three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered by Sopore Police and accordingly a case was registered in Police Station Sopore.

    Subsequently following the due course of action, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Sopore produced the chargesheet before the NIA Court Baramulla in the instant case FIR No. 251/2022 under section 4/5 Explosive Substance Act, 18, 20, 23, 38 ULAP Act against a hybrid militant namely Waseem Raja Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone resident of Kehnusa Bandipora and an active militant linked with proscribed militant outfit LeT namely Mohammad Umar Mir son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir resident of Brath Sopore, reads the statement.(GNS)

  • Police Arrest Militant Associate In North Kashmir

    SRINAGAR: Police, along with the army, have arrested a militant associate of the proscribed outfit JeM in Sopore. Incriminating materials and one hand grenade were recovered from his possession.

    Acting on specific information, a joint MVCP was established by the Police and Army (52RR) at Hygam, near the railway crossing bridge, in the jurisdiction of Police Station Tarzoo. During the search, a suspected person was intercepted; who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert joint party. Incriminating materials and a hand grenade were recovered from his possession.

    He has been identified as Farooq Ahmad Wani, son of Ab Rashid Wani, resident of Wagoob Hygam. During preliminary investigation, it was found that he was working as a militant associate for JeM and was constantly searching for an opportunity to carry out terror attacks on security forces and civilians, including outside employees.

    Accordingly, a case FIR No. 40/2023 under relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Tarzoo, and further investigation has been initiated.

    Sopore, April 26: Police alongwith Army have arrested a militant associate of JeM in Sopore. Incriminating materials and one hand grenade have been recovered from his possession.

    As per press release of Police, acting on specific information, a joint MVCP was established by Police & Army (52RR) at Hygam near railway crossing bridge in the jurisdiction of police station Tarzoo.   • NIA Team Visits Poonch After Deadly Militant Attack

    SRINAGAR: A day after five soldiers were killed and another injured in a militant attack, a team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited the spot on Friday.

    In a statement army said, its vehicle caught fire while moving from Bhimber Gali to Sangiot in District Poonch after being ambushed by militants amid inclement weather in the area.

    Five soldiers died on the spot while one more was injured who is undergoing treatment. Soon after the incident, army and police personnel rushed to the spot. Visuals showed semi-burnt bodies of the soldiers lying on the road beside the burning truck.

    Quoting official sources, GNS reported that a team of NIA investigated the spot to collect initial details of the incident.

    Meanwhile a massive cordon-and-search operation continues in the area to track down the “attackers”.

    The army said army that it has pressed drones and sniffer dogs to trace the attackers. (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: Following the militant attack on an army vehicle in Poonch, the movement of all kinds of vehicles has been suspended on the national highway stretch between Bhimber Gali and Bhata Dhurian with people being advised to follow the Mendhar diversion for moving towards Poonch and Surankote.

    Police in Poonch district said that in the wake of “some incident” in Bhata Dhurian, traffic will remain suspended from BG to Surankote road.

    “All the commuters are advised to adopt alternative routes that include BG Mendhar JWG or Mendhar KG Poonch,” police said.

    The militants attacked an army vehicle in the Bhata Dhurian area of the Poonch district in which five personnel lost their lives while one army man is critically injured. (KNO)

    “Today, at approximately 1500 hours, one Army vehicle, moving between Bhimber Gali and Poonch in the Rajauri sector was fired on by unidentified (militants), taking advantage of heavy rains and low visibility in the area. The vehicle caught fire, due to likely use of grenades by (militants),” army said in a statement.

    “Five personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles Unit deployed for Counter Terrorist operations, in this area, have unfortunately lost their lives in the incident,” it said, adding, “Another seriously injured soldier was evacuated immediately to the Army Hospital at Rajouri and is under treatment.”
    Operations are in progress to locate the perpetrators, the army said.

    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a militant module by arresting two associates of LeT outfit in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district

    In a statement, police  spokesperson said that on the basis of reliable information, joint team of counter insurgent forces busted a militant module in Pattan by arresting two associates of LeT outfit identified as Farooq Ahmad Parra and Saima Bashir of Sopore.

    The statement reads on their disclosure arms and ammunition including one pistol, 2 pistol magazines, 5 pistol rounds, IED and one remote control IED weighing approximately 2 kg were also recovered.

    “During their further questioning, they revealed that duo were working with active LeT militant Abid Qayoom Lone of Wussan Pattan”.

    A case under sections of Arms and ULA (P) Act stands registered in Police station Pattan and investigation is on. (KNO)
