Church of North India in Delhi to spread message of Yamuna rejuvenation

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Priests of some churches in Delhi have decided to join hands to aid the efforts towards rejuvenation of the Yamuna river, following an appeal by Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, officials said on Saturday.

This will prove to be a shot in the arm for the mission to clean the Yamuna as priests of several temples and imams of mosques in the city have already joined the initiative by the LG to help clean the river and remove garbage dumps in Delhi, they said.

The Church of North India (CNI) diocese of Delhi on Saturday issued an appeal asking all the presbyters, deacons, evangelists and ordinands to spread the message of Yamuna rejuvenation and solid waste management during the Sunday service at the churches.

“Committed and concerted goal-oriented efforts made by Lt Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena show positive results. He has appealed to the people of Delhi as indeed the Church to support the efforts being undertaken in rejuvenating the Yamuna and flattening the shameful mountains of waste situated in the Capital,” read the appeal issued by the bishop of the diocese of Delhi Paul Swarup.

Saxena heads the high-level committees formed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to deal with the issues of Yamuna pollution and solid waste management in the city.

The churches will appeal to the people to segregate dry and wet garbage, not throw waste in the Yamuna, recycle and reuse, and avoid dumping garbage in drains.

Following concerted and targeted efforts by the Delhi LG and his appeal to the people of Delhi to proactively participate in these efforts, varied groups and organisations have begun to rise to the occasion.

Imams of several mosques made similar appeals to the people during the Friday prayers.

In April, a training session chaired by the LG was conducted in which 500 temple priests were urged to act as change makers to educate people to stop dumping puja materials and other such items like idols and calendars into the Yamuna.

  • In today’s fraught times, mediation has an imp message: CJI Chandrachud

In today’s fraught times, mediation has an imp message: CJI Chandrachud

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud on Friday said that the Centre should adopt mediation in a big way instead of taking recourse to litigation for resolving disputes.

Mediation is a process that involves resolving disagreements, bringing together various stakeholders, and finding a common ground, he said at a national seminar on ‘Mediation: At The Dawn of a Golden age’ held at the Delhi High Court.

The event was organised by the Delhi High Court Mediation and Conciliation Centre, Samadhan under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority and the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee.

    MS Education Academy

The CJI stressed said that when the government, which is the largest litigator in the country, mediates, it sends a message that in the framework of law, the government is not an adversarial opponent to the citizens.

“The government must adopt the robes of a friend, a partner and a problem solver,” the CJI said.

“The framers of the our Constitution recognised the need to create a document should reflect the will and aspirations of our people. They had to create a framework to resolve many disagreements,” he highlighted.

He said that in today’s fraught times, mediation has an important message for us as citizens. “Are we losing our ability to talk to each other across the spectrum? Are we losing our ability to engage in reasoned dialogue?” he asked, pointing out how mediation helps in listening to others’ viewpoint.

“Is it not necessary therefore that we should pick up something from mediation which is, importantly, being good listeners, understanding the other’s point of view and not only insisting that the dogma we espouse is the only dogma which is relevant to the times,” he said.

‘We need you all’: Harris takes White House message on guns to Nashville

    [ad_1]

    harris tennessee lawmaker expulsion 38439

“We need leaders who have the courage to act at statehouses and Washington, D.C. in the United States Congress,” Harris said, her voice rising above the cheers and applause in Fisk Memorial Chapel. “Have the courage to act, instead of the cowardice to not allow debate and to not allow a discussion on the merits of what is at stake. Courage. You can’t call yourself a leader if you don’t have the courage to know what is right and act on it regardless of the popularity of the moment.”

President Joe Biden spoke to the three lawmakers Friday evening and invited them to the White House, according to officials. And Harris, in her last-minute trip, brought the White House’s push for an assault weapons ban and universal background checks to Nashville.

“Some things are up for partisan debate. Sure, and they will be because that is also a sign of a democracy. But on the issue of smart gun safety laws — background checks — the policy is really pretty straight forward. It’s to say, you might want to know before someone buys a gun whether they have been found by a court to be a danger to themselves or others. You just might want to know,” Harris said.

During the speech, Harris praised the lawmakers for their bravery and leadership amid the tragedy, drawing a throughline from Johnson, Jones and Pearson to civil rights icons like John Lewis and Diane Nash.

Harris looked out to the crowd of students and said it would be the younger generation to lead on this issue.

“We need you all. And your leadership in this movement is going to impact people that you may never meet. People who may never know your name. But because of your leadership, they will forever be benefited,” she said.

“We will not be defeated. We will not be deterred. We will not throw up our hands when it is time to roll up our sleeves. We will fight. We will lead. We will speak with truth. We will speak about freedom and justice. And we will march on.”

  • ‘What bigger message than OBC being made Rajasthan CM thrice’: Gehlot slams BJP

‘What bigger message than OBC being made Rajasthan CM thrice’: Gehlot slams BJP

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot Sunday slammed the BJP over its charge that Rahul Gandhi insulted OBCs with his remark in 2019, and said his party has done a lot for backward classes which include making an OBC leader like him CM thrice.

Gandhi was on Thursday sentenced to two years in jail by a Surat court in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his “why all thieves have Modi surname” remark.

Several BJP leaders, including party chief J P Nadda, have accused Gandhi of insulting Other Backward Classes (OBCs) through his remark.

Addressing a gathering at the daylong “Sankalp Satyagraha” of the Congress at the Rajghat, Gehlot said Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an “experiment” in Gujarat polls in 2017 by saying that a Congress leader abused him about his caste.

And in a repeat of that, the BJP is claiming again before elections that Rahul Gandhi insulted OBCs, Gehlot said

“In 2017, when the BJP was losing the Gujarat elections, Modi ji played the OBC card against the Congress there. The BJP today again wants to run a campaign to mislead the OBCs,” he alleged.

Are fugitives like Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi OBCs, he asked.

“You are protecting fugitives such as Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi, and then saying Rahul Gandhi insulted OBCs,” he said.

Gehlot said can anyone forget what the Congress has done for OBCs and SCs and STs.

“I have been made CM for the third time by Sonia ji, Rahul ji. I am an OBC. There is only one member of OBC Mali community (in the assembly) and that is me,” he said.

Gehlot said what “bigger message” could be for the OBCs there than him being made chief minister again and again.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is also comes from the OBC community, he pointed out.

Elections are coming and that is why they are raising this bogey of OBC insult, he alleged. “It is baseless.”

He said the sacrifices of the Gandhi family are before everyone and Rahul Gandhi is constantly raising the issue of unemployment and high prices.

“They could not answer on allegations raised in Parliament by Rahul Gandhi. I have never seen before that allegations are raised but instead of answering, the prime minister has taken a vow of silence,” Gehlot said.

The BJP raised allegations against Gandhi for his remarks abroad, when he said what he had been saying in the country, he said.

It is the PM who should answer and apologise, Gehlot said.

“Rahul Gandhi has emerged as the voice of the country. We will keep fighting to ensure that democracy is kept alive in the country,” he said.

Man gets message to replace Tricolour with Khalistan flag; case filed

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Delhi Police has registered a case against unidentified people for recording and circulating an audio message containing the threat to remove the Indian flag from Pragati Maidan, the venue for the high-profile G-20 meeting in September.

The case was registered as the complaint of a man who received a pre-recorded message on his phone when he arrived at the Delhi airport.

In the message, the alleged Khalistan supporter was talking about taking over Pragati Maidan and removing the Indian flag. Later, the person also allegedly talked about ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh, they said.

A case under sections 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion etc), and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at IGI Airport Police Station, they said.

The case has been transferred to the Special Cell unit of the Delhi Police, they added.

Singh, the radical preacher, is on the run after the Punjab Police arrested several of his supporters in a major crackdown that began weeks after the group stormed the Ajnala Police Station near Amritsar to secure the release of an arrested associate.

The episode raised fears over the possibility of the return of Khalistani militancy to the state that borders Pakistan.

Police said efforts are on to trace Amritpal Singh. A lookout circular and a non-bailable warrant have been issued against the Khalistan sympathizer.

  • K’taka elections will send out a message to the nation: Kharge

K’taka elections will send out a message to the nation: Kharge

    [ad_1]

Belagavi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said on Monday that the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka is very crucial as it will send out a message to the entire nation.

Addressing the ‘Yuva Kranti Samavesha’, a youth convention, here, Kharge said, “We need to face the elections collectively. Belagavi is a sacred land. The 39th session of AICC was held here in 1924, which was the only session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi.”

Stating that the Congress used to register victory in 15 to 16 constituencies out of the 18 in Belagavi, Kharge said that considering the present scenario, the party will sweep all the seats in the district this time.

“The state has never wirnessed corruption at this scale as it is seeing now. Why did Amit Shah not order a probe into the allegations levelled by contractors’ associations? The police have been sent to Rahul Gandhi’s residence for his statement made in Kashmir 46 days back. In Karnataka, even after proofs are provided, no probe is ordered,” Kharge said.

The state and the Centre are quoting double the amount for tenders and getting 40 per cent commission on each, he claimed.

“PM Modi had spoken about me during his visit to Belagavi. He had said that my remote control is with someone else. Can you tell who has the remote control of BJP President J.P. Nadda? If Rahul Gandhi asks questions about Adani in the Parliament, the questions are removed. There is no democracy in the country, but there is casteism. Is it wrong to say that there is caste discrimination in the country,” Kharge asked.

“This is the land of Kittur Chennamma, Sangolli Rayanna and Belawadi Mallamma. This is the land of valiant individuals, and they can’t be defeated by the ED or CBI. Rahul Gandhi is not afraid of BJP’s threats. Let them torture us as much as they want, we are prepared for everything. No matter how hard the BJP tries to bury us, we are like seeds and we will take birth again and again,” Kharge said.
