My interaction with a Pakistani lady – Justice Katju

I am in regular touch on whatsApp with a Pakistani lady from Lahore, whom I call ‘Lahore waali’ in lighter vein on Twitter.
Recently I sent her this whatsApp message :
” Imran Khan reminds me of a story.
A man told his friend that his father was a very brave man, who once fought with a tiger.
His friend asked ” What happened then ? “.
The man replied ” What could happen ? The tiger tore him up and ate him up ”
Imran KhanJustice Katju is like that brave man, & the US Govt is like that tiger “.
I also sent her this link :
    https://indicanews.com/release-of-imran-khan/

    She promptly replied :
” I look at it this way: there is always a thin line between bravery and foolishness. If Imran had been the typical smart politician then he would have countinued the usual dealing under the table with Army and Americans. He would have continued in the political musical chairs like the average politician who are a dime a dozen in Pakistan.
The fact that he is unusual is the reason he is noticed by the public and he has a track record as a philanthropist and an upright leader with integrity spanning some 30-40 years. The masses appreciate bravery even though it is foolish specially when it comes from someone who has stood by them on the ground, most notably in providing free healthcare in a country where doctors usually advise to let the patient die because it is a matter of spending money on a patient who is going to die anyway due to advanced age or lack of financial means.
So he is the only leader for whom people have reported pilgrims crying and praying at The Kaaba in Mecca. They feel he is connected to them “.

    To this I responded :
” Please permit me to clarify my opinion. I never said Imran Khan should have done under the table dealings with America and the Pakistan army.
But should he have given such strong and indiscrete statements against the American Govt, saying that it forced the Pakistan Govt to send 80,000 Pakistani soldiers to death in Afghanistan, made Pakistanis slaves to America, and martyred ( made shaheed ) Osama bin Laden ?
Even if those were his sincere opinions, could he not have remained silent, knowing that they were sure to antagonize the Americans if publicly proclaimed ?
Please read this article of mine

Sun Tzu, in his book ‘The Art of War’ wrote :
” In war, avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak “.
Imran Khan foolishly went against this maxim, and see the consequences “.

  • Tesla CEO Elon Musk Thrives This Week, While Zuckerberg Struggles

Tesla CEO Elon Musk Thrives This Week, While Zuckerberg Struggles

    Seven days of Differentiating Fortunes

In seven days that saw two tech goliaths at the focal point of consideration, Elon Musk, the mysterious President of Tesla, luxuriated in progress as his organization’s stocks took off, while Facebook (presently Meta) Chief Imprint Zuckerberg wrestled with a progression of difficulties, mirroring the wandering ways of these tech titans.

    Tesla’s Bullish Run Proceeds

Tesla’s stock saw a surprising flood this week, resisting market assumptions and pushing its reasonable worth higher than ever. The electric vehicle trailblazer’s creative innovation, key vision, and predictable benefit have drawn in financial backers, bringing about a consistent move at its stock cost.

    Musk’s Impact and Aggressive Endeavors

Elon Musk’s effect on Tesla’s prosperity couldn’t possibly be more significant. From pivotal progressions in battery innovation to pushing the limits of independent driving, Musk’s daring objectives have moved Tesla to the very front of the electric vehicle transformation. The new declaration of Tesla’s venture into new business sectors and the divulging of state of the art vehicle plans further highlight Musk’s immovable obligation to advancement.

Meta’s Difficulties At the center of attention

On the other hand, Imprint Zuckerberg, the visionary behind Meta’s web-based entertainment domain, confronted seven days full of difficulties. As the organization explored through administrative obstacles and developing worries over client protection, its stock cost encountered a plunge, inciting inquiries concerning the drawn out direction of the online entertainment goliath.

    Battles with Character and Guideline

Meta’s new rebranding, expected to mirror a more extensive spotlight on the metaverse and interconnected virtual encounters, was met with blended responses. Pundits contended that the move was an essential interruption from the organization’s hidden issues, including discussions encompassing falsehood, information security, and antitrust worries.

    Administration Styles Under a microscope

The disparate results for Musk and Zuckerberg likewise shed light on their particular authority styles. While Musk’s active methodology and proud gamble taking have moved Tesla’s development, Zuckerberg’s more careful and information driven navigation has gone under examination despite quickly advancing difficulties.

    Looking Forward

As the week attracts to a nearby, everyone’s eyes stay on Elon Musk and Imprint Zuckerberg, two powerful figures who keep on forming the tech scene in their own extraordinary ways. While Tesla’s direction shows up vertical bound, Meta winds up at a junction, exploring an intricate trap of difficulties that will without a doubt shape its future.

Eventually, the current week’s dissimilar fortunes act as a wake up call of the unpredictable and dynamic nature of the tech business, where development and disturbance remain inseparable with dangers and vulnerabilities.

  • Jacinda Ardern takes up leadership and online extremism roles at Harvard

Jacinda Ardern takes up leadership and online extremism roles at Harvard

    [ad_1]

Former New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern has taken up three new roles at Harvard University, where she will study and speak on leadership, governance and online extremism.

Ardern announced in an Instagram post on Wednesday morning that she was “incredibly humbled” to be joining the university on joint fellowships at the Kennedy School’s Center for Public Leadership and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society, based at Harvard Law School. She will focus on the study of online extremism at the law school, and on building leadership and governance skills at the Kennedy School.

The fellowships will begin in the autumn, and will take Ardern overseas for the period of the New Zealand election in October. Ardern said that “While I’ll be gone for a semester (helpfully the one that falls during the NZ general election!) I’ll be coming back at the end of the fellowships. After all, New Zealand is home!”

Ardern has visited Harvard before: last year, she given an honorary doctorate of law and earned a standing ovation when speaking at Harvard’s commencement on gun control and democracy.

The former prime minister will continue her work on the Christchurch Call – an inter-governmental and tech company pledge she developed after the Christchurch terror attacks to prevent extremist and terrorist content being spread online.

Her time at Harvard will include “time spent studying ways to improve content standards and platform accountability for extremist content online, and examine artificial intelligence governance and algorithmic harms,” the University said in a statement. She will also continue her work on the board of Prince William’s Earthshot Prize, which awards five £1m prizes each year for work providing solutions to major environmental problems.

Prof Jonathan Zittrain, co-founder of the Berkman Klein Centre, said it was “rare and precious for a head of state to be able to immerse deeply in a complex and fast-moving digital policy issue both during and after their service,” and that “Ardern’s hard-won expertise – including her ability to bring diverse people and institutions together – will be invaluable as we all search for workable solutions to some of the deepest online problems.”

Kennedy School Dean Douglas Elmendorf said in a statement that Ardern “showed the world strong and empathetic political leadership”. “She earned respect far beyond the shores of her country, and she will bring important insights for our students and will generate vital conversations about the public policy choices facing leaders at all levels.”

Ardern’s formal titles will be 2023 Angelopoulos Global Public Leaders Fellow, Hauser Leader in the Kennedy School’s Center for Public Leadership, and Knight Tech Governance Leadership Fellow, at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society, based at Harvard Law School.

Ex-AP CM Kiran Kumar Reddy joins BJP, slams Congress leadership

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Former Congress leader and last chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh N Kiran Kumar Reddy joined the BJP on Friday, lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi and slamming the leadership of the opposition party.

Reddy joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and hit out at the Congress leadership for its inability to accept people’s verdicts and make course corrections.

“They believe they are correct and all others, including the people of India, are wrong,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

They want authority to control but don’t want to work hard or take any responsibility, said the four-time former MLA, who had quit the Congress last month.

Citing his family’s over six-decade-long association with the Congress, Reddy said he never imagined he will leave the party.

The Congress is getting damaged in all states and its high command does not interact with others or take their opinion, he said.

Reddy contrasted the rise of the BJP with the decline of the Congress since 1984 and lauded the ruling party’s leaders led by Modi for their hardwork and commitment towards the nation.

They have clarity of thought and consistency, and taking courageous decision is the hallmark of the government, he said.

Reddy also lauded Modi’s commitment to fighting corruption.

  • Only BJP national leadership can decide on political alliance in TN: Palaniswami

Only BJP national leadership can decide on political alliance in TN: Palaniswami

    [ad_1]

Chennai: AIADMK General Secretary K. Palaniswami on Monday said that only the BJP’s national leadership can decide on the alliance in the state for the Lok Sabha elections next year.

Interacting with media persons at Salem, the AIADMK leader’s comment came following state BJP leader K. Annamalai’s “interpretation” of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement as it had “some nuances”. Even as Union Minister of state for Information and Broadcasting and BJP’s former state chief, L. Murugan has said that the alliance with the AIADMK would continue, Annamalai said that as of now the alliance was intact but elections for 2024 Lok Sabha are far off. He had also said that those who knew Hindi well can “interpret” Shah’s speech.

Palaniswami’s statement was a clear message to the state BJP leadership that he would be directly dealing with their national leadership and not with them. The central BJP leadership wants a few seats from Tamil Nadu in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and does want the AIADMK as its alliance partner.

    MS Education Academy

It is also clear that without an alliance with the AIADMK, the BJP will not get any seat in Tamil Nadu and the central leadership of the party cannot afford this.

Palaniswami, when asked on BJP leader Nainar Nagendran’s statement that he was invited to rejoin AIADMK by him, confirmed it, adding: “Not only Nainar Nagendran but all leaders who had quit the AIADMK party should rejoin it.”

  • Cong slams Smriti Irani for criticising its leadership, says ‘sanskar’ of RSS

Cong slams Smriti Irani for criticising its leadership, says ‘sanskar’ of RSS

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday hit back at Union minister Smriti Irani for her scathing criticism of its leadership over the alleged remarks by the party’s youth wing president Srinivas BV, saying the words she used were of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ‘sanskar’ are of the RSS.

Irani on Tuesday hit out at the Congress leadership over the alleged remarks by Srinivas BV against her, saying the words he used were of Rahul Gandhi and the ‘sanskar’ of Sonia Gandhi.

The BJP leader also alleged that Congress members who want “promotion” will continue to make “such kind of comments” against her so long as Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are there in the party.

Hitting back at Irani, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, “Smriti Irani ji why do you play the victim card? I have a question — You keep silent on Lakhimpur-Hathras incident, Shahjahanpur sexual abuse. You remain silent even when a BJP MP calls a woman MP -an MLA ‘Vaishali ki nagarvadhu’? You apologize to this country.”

The problem is that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP do not have the answers to the questions asked by Rahul Gandhi on the Adani issue, Shrinate said at a press conference.

“What kind of love story is this that the country’s PM, ministers and MPs are saving Adani by putting every convention aside,” she said.

“Today Smriti Irani ji has given a very low statement. After listening to his statement, I can say this — ‘The words are of Narendra Modi and ‘sanskar’ are of RSS’ According to which — lie, lie again and again and spread bad propaganda,” Shrinate said.

The BJP on Monday attacked Srinivas BV over his allegedly disparaging remarks against Irani, saying the Congress has become a “cesspool of misogyny”.

The youth Congress reacted strongly to the charges, claiming BJP leaders were sharing a doctored video of the speech made by Srinivas to tarnish his and the party’s image. “It is nothing but a disinformation and fake news campaign initiated by BJP supporters and office bearers,” it said in a statement.

The alleged remarks were made by Srinivas at the Sankalp Satyagrah organised by the Congress at the Rajghat to protest against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as Lok Sabha MP following his conviction by a Surat court in a defamation case.

In a clip of his speech delivered in Hindi, Srinivas can be heard saying, “The BJP means inflation. These same people in 2014 used to say that there is inflation witch which has been made to sit… Smriti Irani has become a little mute and deaf. That witch (Daayan)… Inflation witch (Mehengaai Daayan) has been made a darling and made to sit in the bedroom.”

  • TN tussle: BJP’s top leadership to reach out to AIADMK

TN tussle: BJP’s top leadership to reach out to AIADMK

    [ad_1]

Chennai: With BJP’s Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai slamming the AIADMK for inducting former leaders of his party and the AIADMK leadership hitting back, the relationship between the two alliance partners is at a low ebb.

The BJP’s national leadership, however, wants a truce as it knows clearly that without the backing of the AIADMK, the party will be a big zero in Tamil Nadu, despite the super victories of Pon Radhakrishnan and C.P. Radhakrishnan in the Lok Sabha elections without any alliance.

The latest issue between the AIADMK and BJP cropped up after state BJP IT cell President C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar quit the party and joined the AIADMK in the presence of its interim General Secretary K. Palaniswami. The very next day, state BJP IT cell Secretary Dilip Kannan also quit and after a day joined the AIADMK again in presence of Palaniswami. Both the leaders lashed out against Annamalai, saying that his “dictatorial line of functioning would not help the BJP in Tamil Nadu”.

Annamalai did not take this lying down and in a Twitter post subtly threatened the AIADMK that he would also poach from its ranks. This led to a stern response from AIADMK leader, D. Jayakumar.

The BJP national leadership does not want such a flare up in the relationship between the two parties as it knows clearly that the BJP can get gains only if it piggy rides the AIADMK.

Sources in the BJP told IANS that the BJP national President J.P. Nadda and senior office-bearers including General Secretary and Tamil Nadu in charge C.T. Ravi will be communicating with Palaniswami directly. The party leaders have conducted private surveys and found that without the support of the AIADMK, the BJP cannot even win a single seat in the state.

While Annamalai has lashed out against the AIADMK leadership, the national leadership of the party does not support this as it knows for sure that without the backing of a powerful Dravidan entity, the BJP will not be a force to reckon with in Tamil Nadu.

The DMK-Congress alliance is looking to gain maximum seats from the state and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has already told cadres that all the 40 seats in offing in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry must be won in 2024.

The BJP was expecting to better the chances of its alliance from the present one seat of Theni won by expelled AIADMK leader O.P. Panneerselvam’s son O.P. Ravindranathan. However the recent rift between the AIADMK and BJP has not gone down well with the national leadership which was desperately trying to gain maximum seats from south India.

Except from Karnataka, the party does not have much expectations and hence the national leadership does not want the situation in Tamil Nadu to be fanned up further.

Sources in the BJP told IANS that the national leadership have already communicated to Annamalai to keep calm and have also spoken to Palaniswami. If needed, Nadda will soon reach Chennai and have a meeting with the AIADMK leadership to iron out the differences.

Army pushed back Chinese under Rajiv Gandhi’s leadership: Cong chief Kharge

    [ad_1]

Chennai: The Army under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi valiantly fought and pushed back the Chinese in 1987 along the border and it is important that the Congress became strong once again for a progressive India, party president Mallikarjun Kharge said on Thursday.

After laying a wreath at the memorial of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at Sriperumbudur near here, Kharge traced the late leader’s services to the nation.

“In 1986, Rajiv Gandhi granted statehood to Arunachal Pradesh despite Chinese opposition. Later, in 1987, during the military standoff in Tawang, the Indian government ensured that we did not give up our claims along the border. Thus, Indian Army under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi valiantly fought and pushed back the Chinese,” Kharge said.

For the unity, integrity and progress of the country, it is important that the Congress should become strong once again, he said in a statement released here by the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.

It is only the Congress party that can build a modern and progressive India. “In this fight for building a modern and progressive India, Rajiv Gandhi will always remain a source of inspiration for the Congress party and the youth of our country,” Kharge added.
