    GMC Srinagar Hosts Qualitative Methodology Workshop In Biomedical Research

    SRINAGAR: A two-day workshop was conducted by the Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College Srinagar on qualitative methodology in biomedical research from 9th to 10th March 2023 at GMC Srinagar which was inaugurated by Principal GMC Srinagar Prof. Masood Tanvir. The guest faculty included Dr. Archisman Mohapatra Executive Director of GRID Council, New Delhi, and Dr. Rajmohan Panda, Additional Professor, Public Health Foundation of India, New Delhi.

    The topics which were dealt with during the workshop included qualitative research approaches, tools of data collection, analysis, in-depth interviews, focus group discussion, the difference between quantitative and qualitative research, mock exercises, and the way forward.

    Principal GMC Srinagar on the Valedictory expressed his gratitude to the visiting faculty and emphasized adopting qualitative research wherever feasible in biomedical research.

    Dr. S. Muhammad Salim Khan HOD Community Medicine GMC Srinagar and organizing chairman of the workshop said that after conducting fifteen three-day workshops on quantitative research, we found it imperative to sensitize doctors towards qualitative research and mixed-method approach towards the health and disease scenario in the community.

    The certificates of participation and mementos were distributed during the Valedictory function chaired by Principal GMC Srinagar.

  • Eight Day Theatre Festival Concludes In Srinagar

    SRINAGAR: The 8-day long Kashmir Theatre Festival which began at the Tagore Hall on March 2nd concluded here on Friday. The festival was organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) and supported by Cluster University, Srinagar and Chief Education Office, Budgam.

    Eight plays were staged during the festival which included Arnimal, Gindan Tamashe, Chakdar Paether, Tankha, Akh Pryetch, Fatah, Dakhe Loor and Nam Te Maaz.

    Prof. Qayoom Hussain, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University, Srinagar was the chief guest at the concluding day function while as Prof. Deeba Sarmad, Dean Humanities and Hina Mir, Principal, Hr. Secondary School Chadoora were guests of honour.

    Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Hussain described Theatre as ‘a way of life’ and exhorted the JKAACL that it should continue to promote and develop such activities. He also promised support of the Cluster University in all such endeavours.

    Others who spoke on the occasion included Prof. Deeba Sarmad, Dean Humanities, Cluster University and JKAACL Kashmir I/c, Dr. Farooq Anwaar Mirza.

    On the concluding day today a large gathering comprising theatre lovers, artists, and students witnessed the play and appreciated the performers.

    SRINAGAR: A team of agriculture department Kashmir on Friday seized 421 bags of subsidized fertilizer which was illegally stored in a private plywood factory in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

    An official said that they got a tip-off that subsidized urea was being illegally stored in a plywood factory.

    He said acting on it, a raid was conducted in the presence of the Magistrate and 421 bags of Kisan urea were recovered.

    He said that the factory was also seized while further course of action is being followed and police have initiated investigation into the matter.

    “Illegal acts like this won’t be tolerated at all and action will be taken against those found involved as enforcement wing is continuously working on ground,” he said. (KNS)

    SRINAGAR: About one thousand hotel rooms have been identified for accommodation of PM Package employees in Srinagar.

    The information was given in a meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, on Saturday.

    The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar; Director Estates Department Kashmir; Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants) JK Srinagar; Chief Engineer, PW (R&B) Department Kashmir, Sr  Superintendent of Police Security Kashmir, ACR Srinagar and other officers.

    The officers held a detailed discussion over the issues of accommodation, pattern of room sharing, security and other matters.

    The meeting also deliberated over the accommodation charges to be paid to hoteliers per individual. Besides, the officers also discussed additional accommodation requirements in safe areas of Srinagar.

    About 2200 PM Package employees are to be provided accommodation in Srinagar by Divisional Administration.

    SRINAGAR: In a significant decision, Haj Committee of India (HCoI) on Friday announced to extend the date of Haj forms till March 20.

    Talking to news agency KNO, HCoI member Er Aijaz Hussain said that the date of filling the forms of Haj 2023 has been extended upto March 20. “Haj aspirants can fill the forms till March 20. Haj forms are available on the Website of HCoI,” Er Aijaz added.

    This year, Er Aijaz said that Haj has been made cheaper by Rs 80,000 while as better facilities have been ensured for the pilgrims at Makkah and Madina. This year, 25 embankment points have been set up across the country to facilitate pilgrims. Er Aijaz said that over 10,000 pilgrims will perform Haj from JK UT while as one lakh Indian pilgrims are expected to leave for Haj 2023—(KNO)
