Those who secured jobs illegally are now agitating over DA: Mamata

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed on Wednesday that the state government employees who had secured jobs “illegally” and “unethically” during the previous Left Front regime are now holding demonstrations over pending dearness allowance (DA) arrears.

“Those who secured jobs during the previous regime by virtue of recommendations made on pieces of paper by the ruling party leaders are now holding agitations over dearness allowance. Why should I take advice from them? They are all thieves and dacoits. Moreover, goons associated with the BJP are now making tall claims in the matter,” Banerjee said during her sit-in agitation against the Centre over non-payment of dues, which will continue till 7 p.m. on Thursday.

According to the Chief Minister, ever since Trinamool Congress came to power in the state, her responsibility towards the common people has been of utmost significance to her.

“Remember, the party built by me has immense appeal among the people of the state. Trinamool has formed the government in the state to work for the sake of the common people. Now the party is receiving accolades from across the country,” Banerjee said.

Justifying her decision to hold the sit-in demonstration, Banerjee said that due to the non-release of funds under the 100-day job scheme under MGNREGA, the poor people of the state are being deprived of their legitimate dues against the services they had rendered.

“I am ready to hold many more sit-in demonstrations demanding people’s legitimate rights. I am in this agitation as the national President of the All India Trinamool Congress and not as the Chief Minister of West Bengal. I want to see how powerful they (Centre) are,” Banerjee said.

Rajouri Attack: Victim Families Threaten To Return Government Aid, Jobs

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The residents of Dhangir village of Rajouri on Monday said they will return all government aid including ex-gratia relief and jobs as security forces have failed to track down attackers of January 01 militant attack.

Addressing a press conference, the victim families said that around 3 months have passed since the gruesome attack but there is no clue of attackers and security forces and government are only giving assurances.

“We want justice not financial aid or jobs. We just don’t need assurances but justice. We are ready for a long agitation and will return all the aid and jobs in protest,” said Saroj Bala, who is now alone in her family as she lost her both sons in the attack that day.

7 people lost their lives and 13 others were injured after militants resorted to indiscriminate firing in Dhangri village on January, while one more person died after an IED explosion took place in the area next day. (KNO)

Over 23K techies lose jobs in nearly 82 Indian startups to date

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: As layoffs continue to deepen amid recession fears, more than 23,000 employees have been laid off by at least 82 startups in India, and the list is only growing, the media reported.

According to a report in Inc42, 19 edtech startups, including four unicorns, have alone sacked more than 8,460 employees to date.

The startups that lead the layoff tally include BYJU’S, Ola, OYO, Meesho, MPL, LivSpace, Innovaccer, Udaan, Unacademy and Vedantu, among others.

Home interiors and renovation platform Livspace this week laid off at least 100 employees as part of cost-cutting measures.

Last week, SaaS platform for online stores Dukaan laid off nearly 30 per cent of its workforce, or around 60 employees — its second layoff in about six months.

Healthcare unicorn Pristyn Care has also sacked up to 350 employees across departments and impacted employees from sales, tech and product teams.

Online higher education company upGrad laid off nearly 30 per cent of its workforce at its subsidiary “Campus”.

In February, end-to-end global delivery management platform FarEye laid off 90 employees, which was its second layoffs in about eight months amid the economic meltdown.

With the onset of January, more and more Indian startups are slashing jobs across the spectrum.

Social media company ShareChat (Mohalla Tech Pvt Ltd) laid off 20 per cent of its workforce due to uncertain market conditions.

The layoff impacted about 500 people at the company.

Delivering its quarterly results for the second quarter of fiscal 2023, the company also reduced its annual revenue growth and profit forecasts.

  • Young girls from Kashmir break stereotypes, opt for male dominant jobs

Young girls from Kashmir break stereotypes, opt for male dominant jobs

    [ad_1]

Srinagar, March 20: Women empowerment in Jammu and Kashmir was not less than a challenge for the Indian government, but the measures taken so far have brought laurels and also proved fruitful as many of the young girls instead of sitting idle at home, have managed to set up their own units where they earn their livelihood.

The young girls with the active support of the government scheme UMEED through the J-K Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) have proved themselves within the society.

Defeating many odds, the girls have not only stood against the critics, but they managed to break the stereotypes in the Valley by preferring the “male-dominated” jobs, receiving appreciation from every nook and corner.

The famous delicacies in Kashmir, known as ‘Wazwan’, are being served to the people, especially on marriages, engagements and other special occasions. The one who prepares Wazwan is known as ‘Waza’ (Chef).

It was a male-dominated job, but nearly half a dozen girls from the Ganderbal district are breaking the stereotypes and have engaged themselves in the profession and earned their name as well.

These young girls from central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district are serving famous delicacies to people on special occasions.

“It was something new for the people as so far only males would prepare the Wazwan. At the beginning of our journey, we were criticized by the people and also faced many odds. With the passage of time, everything changed as the family, as well as the society, started appreciating us,” Ishrat Irshad, one of the girls said.

“It was all with the support of NRML’s UMEED that they have been able to achieve their goal and also become an example for the girls, who aspire to achieve their dreams. As time passes, we are not being invited to the functions like engagements, marriages and other events where we prepare food for the guests,” she said.

These girls are presently getting appreciation at a first-of-its-kind Sale of Articles and Rural Artisan Society (SARAS) event, being organized for 11 days at the Boulevard area of Srinagar.

Besides the girls from Ganderbal, there are many carts and every cart has a different story of women empowerment.

In another instance, the young girls from Srinagar outskirts have also preferred a male dominant job as they sell the famous barbeques and other fast-food items.

Barbeques in Srinagar are one of the fast foods that sell hot cakes every day. The young as well as old men install their carts at different places every day to sell the barbeques and other fast-food stuff.

However, it is for the first time that the girls have become engaged in selling barbeques and other food items on the outskirts of Srinagar.

Unlike the men who sell fast food on roads and in restaurants, these girls get orders for functions and events in bulk through which they earn their livelihood as well.

Mumtaza, one of the members of the self-help group was not sure whether they would get any response from the people. Still, as the people started relishing the barbeques prepared by them, they started getting calls almost every day, which helped them to set up their unit more vigorously.

The National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) assisted the girls to get trained, which has been proving fruitful for them.

The girls further appealed to other women not to think about the future, but start their journey at the earliest to achieve their dreams.

“There is nothing impossible. We (females) can do anything, but there should be a will. Anyone, who wants to touch the sky, has to come out of her home and start afresh to achieve the target,” they said.

Pertinently, while inaugurating the 11-day National level fair SARAS (Sale of Articles and Rural Artisan Society) on the banks of world famous Dal Lake Near Ghat No- 8 Boulevard Road, the Mission Director Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM), Indu Kanwal Chib had said that there are many platforms where the women are being skilled in both farm and non-farm skills.

She also said that 40,000 women are already millionaires as they are earning more than one lakh a year and 65 per cent among them are entrepreneurs.–(ANI)

Elizabeth Warren: Fed chair has failed at both his jobs

    bank collapse yellen 87805

The Massachusetts senator, who has been vocal in calling for stronger regulations of the banking sector, also slammed Powell for deregulation that happened under his watch, including the roll back of measures in the Dodd-Frank Act, legislation that was enacted in 2010 in response to the 2008 financial crisis.

Powell “stepped up and took a flamethrower to the regulations,” Warren said on ABC’s “This Week.”

It is moves like this that led Warren to oppose Powell’s nomination to the Fed, she said.

“Jerome Powell has said that all he wants to do is lighten regulations on the banks. I opposed him as Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank precisely for that reason. I said he was a dangerous man to have in this position,” she said.

Warren, who has long opposed government intervention that helps big business at the expense of small business and the nation’s workforce, also criticized Powell for sacrificing U.S. employment in order to combat inflation.

“What Chair Powell is trying to do — and he has said fairly explicitly is that they are trying to, in effect, slow down the economy so that (this is, by the Fed’s own estimate) — 2 million people will lose their jobs. And I believe that is not what the chair of the Federal Reserve should be doing,” Warren said.

When asked whether President Joe Biden should replace Powell, Warren told NBC’s Chuck Todd: “I don’t think he should be Chairman of the Federal Reserve.”

  • Govt to boost electronics manufacturing to Rs 24 lakh cr, create 10 lakh jobs

Govt to boost electronics manufacturing to Rs 24 lakh cr, create 10 lakh jobs

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: The Narendra Modi government’s target is to increase electronics manufacturing capability to Rs 24 lakh crore by 2025-26, which will also help create over 10 lakh jobs, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, said on Friday.

Addressing a gathering of students here as part of the ‘New India for Young India Initiative’, the minister said that young Indians are driving the country’s progress in India’s ‘Techade’.

“There are more than 90,000 startups, including 110 unicorns, in which Young Indians are playing a big part. They have achieved their success due to their hard work and efforts and not because of any connections or famous last name, ” he told a packed audience.

Chandrasekhar had an interactive session with students in which, he answered their queries ranging from skilling, R&D and innovation ecosystem, entrepreneurship opportunities and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates’ recent meeting with him.

On a query about the Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) crisis and Indian government’s role to mitigate the woes of the startups, the minister said, the country’s banking system is much more resilient and stronger in comparison to any other country’s banking system.

“The startups should, therefore, opt for Indian banks as their preferred banking partners,” he added.

The minister had earlier said that over a billion dollar worth of capital “attributable to Indian startups” was stuck in deposits at SVB when it collapsed.

Chandrasekhar also informed that over $250 million have been transferred from SVB to GIFT City banks in the last few days.
