    SRINAGAR: At least six shops were gutted in a midnight blaze on Exchange Road in the Lal Chowk area of Srinagar, officials said on Wednesday.

    The shopkeepers said that they came to know about the fire incident in the morning following which they rushed to the spot but found their shops turned into ashes.

    “I had denting and painting workshop and all my machinery including electronic items worth more than 10 lakh have got damaged in the fire”, said Tahir Ahmad a fire victim.

    Meanwhile, an official said that the fire incident was reported around 2:49 AM, following which four tenders were rushed to douse off the flames.

    He said that the fire damaged four automobile workshop sheds and two Kiryana shops—(KNO)

    Pulwama, May 10: A massive fire gutted Jamia Masjid in Tral town of South Kashmir’s Pulwama on Wednesday morning.

    According to official sources, a fire broke out at Jamia Masjid ‘Noor-ul-Islam’. Fire tenders have rushed to the spot trying to douse the flames.

    The roof of the Masjid have gutted completely while the firefighters, with the help of locals and police were on job till the filing of this report.

    Locals told news agency Kashmir News Trust that all the students from Darul Uloom adjacent to the Masjid have been evacuated safely. [KNT]

The LPG cylinder explosion damaged the three-story house even as the sleuths of Fire and Emergency Department controlled the fire from spreading in the congested locality, official sources said.

    They said the woman identified as Nafeesa (58) was inside the kitchen of the house when the gas cylinder caught fire and exploded, leading to on spot death of the lady who according to the locals had not been keeping well for quite some time and had been largely bedridden.

    Meanwhile, the fire raged and engulfed the house, causing substantial damage to it. However, they said, immediately fire tenders rushed to the area, and the blaze was brought under control.

    A police official said that a case has been registered in this regard and further investigations taken up. (GNS)

    East Godavari: At least 40 boats were gutted after a major fire broke out in a fibre boat manufacturing factory in the Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh.

    After receiving word of the blaze, several fire tenders were rushed to the spot, officials said.

    A fire department official said, “After getting information, we rushed to the spot and launched an operation to douse the fire.

    SRINAGAR: At least seven shops and a residential house were gutted in a massive fire incident in Qalamabad village in Handwara area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

    Reports said that a fire broke out in a residential house this afternoon. The raging flames soon after spread to a shopping complex in proximity near Jamia Masjid Qalamabad.

    Responding to the exigency, Handwara Police and locals swung into action to douse off the flames. After hours of strenuous efforts, the blaze was controlled but not before it gutted at least seven shops and a double-storeyed residential house. Among the gutted shops included four of merchandise (Kiryana), two of hardware and one of a tailor. The residential house and the shopping complex are said to belong to one Ghulam Ahmad Najar.

    The fire also caused minor damage to the attic portion of the Jamia Masjid Qalamabad.

    Two civilians and a cop during the rescue operation suffered contusions and were administered with first aid at the site.

    Chairman Jamia Masjid Qalamabad, Abdul Ghani Reshi while extending his gratitude to Handwara Police and local administration alongside Army’s 30 RR said that the timely action from them prevented the fire from spreading further. The mosque head however castigated the local unit of F&ES Department for failing to act on time, which according to him led to escalation of the blaze.

    “We are highly thankful to Handwara Police, the local administration alongside Army’s 30 RR for their timely help and preventing the spread of fire”, he said adding “We however are highly agonized by the pathetic approach of the local F&ES Department unit which despite at a stone’s throw distance failed to perform its duty as otherwise expected.” (GNS)

    Srikakulam: Around 90 electric vehicles inside a showroom in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikaluma district were gutted in a fire that broke out while charging, officials said on Wednesday.

    The officials said that the fire quickly spread to the adjacent hardware store.

    However, no casualty or injury was reported in the incident so far.

    Sub divisional magistrate Gurez, Mudasir Ahmad said that five houses were gutted in massive fire in Grat-Nallah village of Tulail.

    He said that the fire erupted from one of the residential houses and engulfed the surrounding houses within no time.

    Hyderabad: Narrow escape for passengers after a TSRTC bus caught fire in the Suryapet district in the early hours of Wednesday.

    Twenty passengers, who were travelling on the bus escaped immediately after they were alerted of a short circuit in the engine of the bus.

    According to the passengers, the bus had left Khammam depot and reached crossroads in Suryapet when the incident took place.

    However, the fire was doused by the fire engine that reached the spot. However the bus was gutted till then.
