AGMUT cadre IAS officers’ body expresses anguish over release of ex-MP Anand Mohan

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A group representing AGMUT cadre civil services officers has expressed “deep concern and anguish” over the release of former MP Anand Mohan, convicted for killing an IAS officer, following a change in the Bihar government’s prison manual.

This tantamounts to a “denial of justice” to G Krishnaiah, who was Gopalganj district magistrate in 1994, and his family, the association said in a statement issued on May 4.

Mohan was released by amending the classification rules of prisoners, the AGMUT Cadre IAS Officers’ Association said in a statement.

    MS Education Academy

The association represents IAS officers serving in Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre.

“The association expresses solidarity with the Indian Civil and Administrative Service (Central) Association in demanding justice to the family of Late G Krishnaiah, IAS. The association stands firmly by the family of the deceased officer in its fight for justice,” it said.

In a statement earlier, the Indian Civil and Administrative Service (Central) Association said Mohan’s release is “tantamount to denial of justice” and urged the Bihar government to reconsider its decision.

Krishnaiah was lynched by a mob led by Mohan in 1994. His wife Uma Krishnaiah has challenged the former Bihar MP’s premature release in the Supreme Court.

Mohan was released from Saharsa jail last month following an amendment in Bihar’s prison rules. His name figured in a list of more than 20 prisoners who were ordered to be set free by a notification issued by the Bihar government’s Law department as they had spent more than 14 years behind bars.

Uma Krishnaiah has contended that the sentence of life imprisonment awarded to Mohan meant incarceration for his entire natural course of life and that it cannot be mechanically interpreted to last just 14 years.

Mohan was convicted for the murder of Krishnaiah, a Dalit IAS officer. According to reports, Krishnaiah died after his car was attacked during the funeral procession of gangster Chotan Shukla.

The former MP was part of the procession in Muzaffarpur and the police had charge-sheeted him for provoking his supporters to commit the crime.

  • Eid Prayers Barred At Jamia Masjid, Auqaf Expresses Resentment

Eid Prayers Barred At Jamia Masjid, Auqaf Expresses Resentment

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid on Saturday expressed strong resentment against the administration for disallowing the Eid prayer at the historic Jamia Masjid for the 4th consecutive year.

Anjuman said that police and civil authorities informed them late Friday evening that Eid prayers would only be allowed at Jama Masjid Srinagar if held before 7.30 am, which was not possible for the Anjuman as it had already given the programme of offering Eid prayer at 09:00 am as people from far-flung areas come to offer Eid prayer at the Jamia Masjid Srinagar,” the Anjuman spokesman said in a statement.

The Auqaf said that Jamia Masjid is a central place of congregational prayers in the valley. The purpose of such central places of worship is to provide a space and opportunity to Muslims so that they can pray together in large numbers on Fridays and other religious occasions, and experience the physical and spiritual communion as an ummah.

    1320x120 ad feed desktop

To facilitate people from across the valley to reach these central places, prayers timings are decided accordingly and like in Dargah Hazratbal prayers timings by the Waqf Board has been set at 10.30 am, Anjuman Auqaf had also announced prayers at 9:00 am. It is strange that if congregational prayers can be allowed at other places at 10:30 am, why not at Jamia Masjid, why unreasonable conditions are being applied here?,” the Anjuman asked.

The Auqaf said that it fails to understand why the grand occasions of Shab-e-Qadr and Jummat-ul-Vida were performed by a large number of people in Jama Masjid in a pleasant and peaceful atmosphere, and why were the Eid prayers barred.

“Anjuman Auqaf deeply regrets this approach of the authorities causing great hurt and sorrow to the Muslims of JK, as does the prolonged detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq since august 2019, who would deliver the soul rendering Eid sermon prior to congregational Eid prayers,” the Anjuman said.

  • FCIK Expresses Regret Over Destruction Of Industrial Unit In Fire

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK) has expressed regret over the fire incident which took place in industrial estate Anchidora, Anantnagon Thursday evening in which the property worth over 100 lakhs belonging to a polyfoam mattress manufacturing unit M/s 5-Star polymers was destroyed

While conveying deepest sympathies on behalf of the apex organisation, the President FCIK assured the promoter of the unit Afroz Shah of every possible support that they required at this crucial juncture.

“FCIK put the onus of all fire incidents in industrial estates on the industrial corporations manning these estates which have miserably failed in building the necessary firefighting infrastructure in industrial estates of the valley,”  the FCIK said in a statement, adding, “ The unit in Anchidora could have been saved from massive damage had the corporation put in place fire hydrants and water storage facility in place. Although the unit was equipped with fire extinguishers, these couldn’t help in controlling the fire as it had already spread before the fire fighters reached the spot.

FCIK called the attention of the government to direct the concerned for installation of fire hydrants in all small estates which could work as the first line of action in case of a fire till fire tenderers reached the affected estates. The government should provide full-fledged fire stations in more and more estates and make these fully functional, President FCIK demanded.

FCIK also demanded that the industries department take stock of the fire incident in Anchidora and reach out to the affected unit for all possible help and facilitation.

OIC expresses ‘deep concern’ on Ram Navami violence; Indian govt hits back

    [ad_1]

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has followed with ‘deep concern’ the acts of violence and vandalism targeting the Muslim community in several states in India during the Ram Navami processions, including the burning of a madrasa and its library by an extremist Hindu mob in Bihar Sharif on 31 March 2023, a press release said.

The OIC General Secretariat denounced such provocative acts of violence and vandalism, which are a vivid manifestation of ‘mounting Islamophobia’ and ‘systemic targeting’ of the Muslim community in India, OIC said.

The OIC General Secretariat called upon the Indian authorities to take firm action against the instigators and perpetrators of such acts and to ensure the safety, security, rights, and dignity of the Muslim community in the country.

    Indian government hits back

India on Tuesday slammed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for its ‘communal mindset’ and ‘anti-India’ agenda.

India’s strong reaction came after the OIC secretariat issued a statement alleging the targeting of the Muslim community in several states in India during Ram Navami processions.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi condemned the statement issued by the OIC.

“We strongly condemn the statement issued by OIC Secretariat today regarding India. This is one more example of their communal mindset and anti-India agenda,” Bagchi said.

“The OIC only does its reputation damage by being consistently manipulated by anti-India forces,” the statement said.

Martial law in Pakistan? Bilawal Bhutto expresses apprehension

    [ad_1]

Islamabad: Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed his apprehension about emergency or martial law in the country if a larger Supreme Court bench was not constituted to hear the case regarding the postponement of provincial elections in Punjab, according to a media report on Tuesday.

Bilawal’s concerns stem from the ongoing political and judiciary crisis in the cash-starved country wherein the Supreme Court is hearing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s petition against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to postpone the Punjab Assembly polls.

Bilawal, who is also the head of the People’s Party (PPP), spoke with the media on Monday in Larkana, his seat in the Sindh province, and said his party would not accept whatever decision of the three judges on elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab, The News International reported.

    MS Education Academy

Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Tuesday termed as “unconstitutional” the election commission’s decision to postpone polls in the Punjab province till October 8, in a major blow to the federal government that has been trying to delay the provincial election citing security issues and the economic crisis.

“The party will embrace (only) the decision of the full court and implement the same,” he said.

He said that PPP is defending the Constitution. He added that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the PPP founder, had given the nation the 1973 Constitution which was breached by dictators, including Pervez Musharraf, but former president Asif Ali Zardari had restored it.

He said that the sons and daughters of dictators are in the PTI and added that party supremo Imran Khan was the chief polling agent of Pervez Musharraf in a held referendum.

He said that a three-judge decision would not be accepted because one of them, through his judgment, had handed over the Punjab government to PTI by rejecting some votes in the election of the chief minister last year.

He asked the Chief Justice of Pakistan to constitute a full court in the larger interest of the nation.

Pakistan has a history of military rule and so far generals have ruled almost half of the history of the creation of the country. Bilawal’s warning comes as the country is gripped with bitter political, judicial and economic crises.

CM Khattar expresses regret, withdraws remark on judge

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday expressed regret and withdrew his remark on a judge after it sparked a political row with opposition Congress dubbing the statement “an attack on the country’s judiciary”.

In a video posted by Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala on Sunday, Khattar could be heard assuring someone during a “Jan Samvad” programme in Bhiwani district that “Wo hal ho jaayegi, chinta mat karo. Ek judge hai…. (Your issue will be resolved, don’t worry. There is a judge…”

Khattar had made the remark on Sunday. He is currently on a visit to Bhiwani district where he is holding interaction with the villagers on their grievances.

    MS Education Academy

Surjewala had claimed that Khattar made an objectionable remark against a high court judge and termed it “an attack on the country’s judiciary”.

“It is an attempt to influence the high court proceedings,” Surjewala had said, while condemning the CM’s remarks. He had demanded that the Chief Justice of India and the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court take cognisance of the matter and issue a contempt notice to Khattar.

He had also demanded that CM apologise to the judiciary for his remarks.

He claimed that Khattar was talking about the recruitment of constables in the Haryana Police over which a case is pending before the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

With opposition training guns at Khattar over the remark, the chief minister said on Monday he believed the comment should not have been made.

“I respect courts of law. I immediately also said that whatever the courts rule is the final verdict and there is no doubt about that,” Khattar told a private channel in Bhiwani when asked about Surjewala’s tweet.

Khattar also said that things move forward by maintaining a balance among the judiciary, executive and legislature and the three organs work for the public welfare.
“It was a question pertaining to an inordinate delay. An examination took place, and the result was also announced, but a stay was imposed (by the court). Thus, an ‘Aswabhavik si tippani’ (uncharacteristic comment) came out. I also feel it should not have been made. Even if a thing might have reached a particular judge, I withdraw my words.

“But, I intended to say that thousands of people are affected due to this delay, and they are not getting adequate time for their training. Daily we are asked about this. In Sunday’s public meeting too, all such people who could not join their jobs also came… Thus, an uncharacteristic comment was made which I regret,” Khattar added.

Meanwhile, at a press conference here, when former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was asked the comment, he said said, “Those who are sitting in responsible positions should not speak irresponsibly”
