Telangana: QR codes on autos to aid women in trouble in Rajanna Sircilla

Hyderabad: The Rajanna-Sircilla police department has created a QR code in order to assist individuals, particularly women in trouble.

If an auto driver misbehaves with a woman or attempts to take her on a different route with malicious intent, the victim can quickly scan the code on her mobile phone, and the information will be transmitted to the police control centre.

The QR code contains all of the information about the autorickshaw, including the registration number, the name of the driver, and its position, allowing authorities to track it down and rescue the victim. The police agency has placed the QR code on around 3,000 autorickshaws throughout the area.

Within 24 hours of its launch, the code garnered an overwhelming response from the general public. In addition, to raise public knowledge of the QR code, the police department produced a short flim and distributed it via Twitter and WhatsApp groups of inhabitants in the district.

The short clip depicts how a police squad tracked an automobile and was quickly apprehended by local cops after receiving information via a QR code supplied by a woman in trouble.

The clip was released on Twitter by SP Akhil Mahajan, the man behind the idea. State IT, Industries, and MAUD minister KT Rama Rao praised the Sircilla police for taking the effort to ensure commuter safety.

The SP is also collecting recommendations from netizens to improve policing. Akhil Mahajan has urged people to download the Abhaya Android App in order to receive immediate assistance from police around the clock.

The SP stated the drivers of all public transport vehicles (autos and taxis) have generated digital copies of their documents, which have been uploaded to the QR code. In addition to the app, users are encouraged to file complaints with the police via phone calls or text messages in order to receive prompt assistance.

  • Google Authenticator’s new update to safely backup your one-time codes

Google Authenticator’s new update to safely backup your one-time codes

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Google Authenticator has received a new update on both iOS and Android, which adds the ability to safely backup users’ one-time codes (or one-time passwords or OTPs) to their Google Account.

“With this update we’re rolling out a solution to this problem, making one-time codes more durable by storing them safely in users’ Google Account. This change means users are better protected from the lockout and that services can rely on users retaining access, increasing both convenience and security,” Google said in a blogpost on Monday.

In 2010, the tech giant released Google Authenticator as a free and easy way for sites to add “something you have” two-factor authentication (2FA) that bolsters user security when signing in.

Moreover, to enhance the security of online authentication, Google has been promoting a variety of options in addition to one-time codes from Authenticator.

“Google Password Manager securely saves your passwords and helps you sign in faster with Android and Chrome, while Sign in with Google allows users to sign in to a site or app using their Google Account,” the company said.

To use the new sync feature, simply update the Authenticator app.

If you use Google Authenticator while signing in to a Google Account, your codes will be automatically backed up and restored on any new device you use.

You can also manually transfer your codes to another device even if you don’t have a Google Account by following the instructions on its support page.

  • Source codes of League of Legends, TFT stolen after cyber attack: Riot Games

Source codes of League of Legends, TFT stolen after cyber attack: Riot Games

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Video game developer Riot Games said that the source codes for its popular video games ‘League of Legends’ and ‘Teamfight Tactics’, or TFT, were stolen in a recent cyber attack, alongside the code for one of its anti-cheat platforms.

“Over the weekend, our analysis confirmed source code for League, TFT, and a legacy anticheat platform were exfiltrated by the attackers,” the company tweeted.

Earlier this week, Riot disclosed the breach as a “social engineering attack” on Twitter, assuring players that an update would be provided after an investigation.

The video game developer also received a ransom email from attackers, which the company says it won’t pay.

Moreover, the company assured that no player data or personal information was compromised, but acknowledges that the source code obtained by the attacker could result in new cheats.

“While this attack disrupted our build environment and could cause issues in the future, most importantly we remain confident that no player data or player personal information was compromised,” tweeted Riot Games.

“Truthfully, any exposure of source code can increase the likelihood of new cheats emerging. Since the attack, we’ve been working to assess its impact on anticheat and to be prepared to deploy fixes as quickly as possible if needed,” it added.

The company further mentioned that “it will release a full report in the future detailing the attackers’ techniques, the areas where Riot’s security controls failed, and the steps we’re taking to ensure this doesn’t happen again”.
