Influenza Scare: Doctors Say No Need To Panic, Exercise Caution

SRINAGAR: Advising people to take extreme precautions and maintain hygiene, doctors on Friday said there is no need to panic regarding Influenza H3N2 variant virus infection in Kashmir .
They said that spread of infection can be prevented through measures such as maintaining hygiene and avoiding crowds.
Medical Superintendent, Chest Disease hospital (CD), Saleem Tak said that for the last two months cases of Influenza are being reported at CD hospital.
He said that around 50 cases of H1N1 of which H3N2 is a variant were reported in the last two months at the hospital.
Such patients have Covid-19 like symptoms but their results are being found negative Covid-19, however, they are being found positive for influenza H1N1, he said.
Patients have usually Covid-19 symptoms besides fever, mild cough and running nose and few positive patients are currently admitted at the hospital, he said.
He said that there is no need to panic but people must take precautions such as wearing masks and preventing crowding.
Officials from SKIMS said four cases of H3N2 have been reported so far at the hospital while an epidemiologist from Directorate of Health Services Kashmir said that no such case has been reported in hospitals working under DHSK.

They said that elderly people, people with comorbidities and children are more prone to flu and they must take precautions like avoid unnecessary gathering and follow proper hygiene.
Many people are taking antibiotics on their own; they said adding that it is not right to take medicine without doctor’s advice and to take antibiotics unnecessarily as medicines need to be given based on symptoms.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) recently has advised against indiscriminate use of antibiotics amid rising cases of cough, cold and nausea.
The fever will last five to seven days, it said.
The fever goes away at the end of three days but the cough can persist for up to three weeks, the IMA’s Standing Committee for Anti-Microbial Resistance said.
Viral cases have also surged due to air pollution, it said, adding that it mostly occurs in people aged below 15 and above 50 and causes upper respiratory infections along with fever.
The association also asked doctors to prescribe only symptomatic treatment and not antibiotics. (KNO)

Sharad Pawar advises ‘caution’ over breach of privilege move against Sanjay Raut

Mumbai: A day after the Maharashtra Assembly initiated the process of breach of privilege of the House against Shiv Sena-UBT MP Sanjay Raut for his purported “Chor Mandali” remarks, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar on Thursday urged “caution” on the issue.
Giving his sagely advice, Pawar, 82 said that Raut is a senior and respected Member of the Rajya Sabha, the highest legislature of the country, that is the Indian Parliament.
“Hence, before any proposed action against him, the legality and guidelines for taking such action vis-a-vis MPs should be carefully examined. Raut’s statement is essentially a reaction expressed about a particular group and its meaning is clear without any interpretation,” Pawar contended.
After a huge ruckus in the House on Wednesday over Raut’s purported remarks of “chor mandali”, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar accepted a notice by some Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members to initiate the breach of privilege process against the Sena-UBT MP.
Talking to the media in Kolhapur, Raut – ostensibly referring to the Shiv Sena of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde – said that “it’s a fake Shiv Sena, a gang of thieves, its not a legislature party but a ‘chor mandali’” and these utterances are now attracting the breach of privilege of the House.
Raising eyebrows at the breach of privilege committee convened for the purpose, the NCP supremo observed that the legislators from the Sena-UBT group, to which Raut belongs, are not included, “which is not correct”.
“Moreover, the committee appointed is expected to be independent and neutral. But, the MLAs who demanded action against Raut have also been included on the committee. This means the complainant is appointed as the judge, then how can justice be expected?” Pawar wondered.
The NCP chief, who is also a Member of Rajya Sabha, made it clear that the legislature in a democracy is the highest representative body of the people and its dignity must be maintained.

Nevertheless, he said that in order to ascertain whether Raut’s statements are about the legislature or on a particular group, the committee should comprise senior and impartial members to consider it collectively.
Delving into a historic example, Pawar recalled how during the tenure of the former Chief Minister Vasantdada Patil, his government was criticised by the (then) Opposition as “Ali Baba-Chaalis Chor” regime, and though such criticism of the law-making body (legislature) is never justifiable, opined that “the matter should be handled calmly”.

Leopard Roaming In Uptown Areas, Caution Sounded

SRINAGAR: Spotted a week ago, a leopard in Srinagar’s Rawalpora area is yet to be trapped, while the authorities at the Wildlife department on Thursday said the teams and traps have been laid to capture the animal.
Quoting Regional Wildlife Warden Kashmir region, Rashid Yahya Naqash the news agency KNO reported that the teams have already been deputed for the last three days and that all measures are in place to capture the animal.
“We have initiated the door-to-door campaign in the area on the advisory, cages, and darts while other needed measures are in place,” he said, adding, “We are monitoring it closely as the animal is been spotted a week ago.”
Urging people to follow the advisory, the Regional Wildlife Warden Kashmir said that people should follow the advisory issued by the department.
It is pertinent to mention that it is not the first time that a leopard was spotted in Srinagar. The wild animal has been spotted many times in the district.
The wildlife authorities said the leopards have become urbanised and are learning to live with human landscapes as they are getting enough cover of food in the shape of dogs.
