Criminals now beg for their lives, says CM Yogi; bats for ‘triple-engine govt’

    [ad_1]

Unnao: Criminals in Uttar Pradesh walked around with their heads held high but now they hang placards around their necks begging for their lives, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday while campaigning for the urban local body elections.

Adityanath addressed elections rallies in Unnao and Rae Bareli ahead of the polls, scheduled to take place in two phases on May 4 and May 11.

Addressing an election rally in Rae Bareli, Adityanath said, “BJP ki ek hi yukti, pradesh ko dilai mafia se mukti (The BJP has only one solution which has rid the sate of criminals)’. The mafia are begging for mercy to lead regular lives and earn livelihood by honest means due to zero tolerance against crime.”

    MS Education Academy

He also took a dig at the previous regimes, saying people associated with a particular party would brandish country-made pistols while the youths now are working on smartphones and tablets.

Adityanath was referring to the Uttar Pradesh government’s drive to distribute tablets and smartphones free of cost to one crore undergraduate and postgraduate students as part of a push to the link the state’s youths with the Digital India campaign.

Addressing another rally in Unnao, Adityanath said, “Before 2017, traders were exploited and extorted. Today, they are benefitting from the PM SVANidhi scheme. Prior to 2017, there was terror of miscreants while today, cities are being made safe.

“Earlier, there were heaps of garbage but cities are becoming smart today. Now, there is no place for mafia-criminals, crime, corruption and corrupt people in Uttar Pradesh.”

The BJP defeated the Samajwadi Party to form the government in Uttar Pradesh in 2017. Adityanath became the chief minister for the second consecutive term after assembly polls last year, a feat achieved in India’s most populous state after over three decades.

Speaking in Unnao, he said, “This is the new Uttar Pradesh. Government facilities are being given as per eligibility. We consider every citizen of Uttar Pradesh to be a member of our family, so no one can claim that there was caste or religious discrimination.”

“No extortions or kidnappings for ransom, Uttar Pradesh is no longer anyone’s fiefdom,” the chief minister said.

He also criticised the previous regimes for creating law and order problems that prevented girls from going to school.

“(Earlier) the youths faced an identity crisis. The nation’s reputation suffered and scams became prevalent. The perception of India has changed since 2014. People now look at the youth of India with respect. Today, India is making progress in every field,” Adityanath said.

Adityanath said India has transformed in the last nine years and that transformation has become the centre of attraction for the world. The dream of 140 crore people in India is being fulfilled without any discrimination under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Similarly, there has been a change in how Uttar Pradesh is perceived inside India in the last six years, he added.

In the last six years, the “double engine government” has provided a house each to more than 54 lakh poor people in rural and urban areas while toilets have been built for 2.61 crore underprivileged.

Adityanath said the civic elections are not a small matter and are meant to add a “third engine” to the existing “double engine government” of the BJP in the state to accelerate its development.

The prime minister’s vision is the mission of Uttar Pradesh, he said. The Ganga Expressway is being constructed to connect western Uttar Pradesh with the state’s central and eastern parts and will benefit the people of Unnao, the chief minister said.

The expressway will allow people to travel to Delhi in six hours and Prayagraj in two, he added.

Unnao and Rae Bareli will go to the polls in the first phase on May 4. The votes will be counted on May 13.

The elections are seen as setting the tone for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh, which sends 80 lawmakers to Parliament.

  • IPL 2023: Cops recover bats, shoes and other equipment of Delhi Capitals players, David Warner reacts

    [ad_1]

Although a couple of items are still missing, the Aussie opener expressed his gratitude towards the authorities for finding the items and catching the culprits.

They found the culprits. Few missing but still thank you,” Warner wrote in his post.

The incident involved the theft of 16 bats, along with pads, shoes, thigh pads, gloves, and other equipment belonging to the Delhi Capitals players. The players discovered the loss on the day they received their kit bags in their respective rooms in Delhi after arriving from Bengaluru.

The Delhi Capitals have finally secured their first win in the ongoing IPL 2023 season, defeating KKR by four wickets in a nail-biting last-over thriller. While David Warner’s aggressive batting during the powerplay was undoubtedly the key highlight of the match, there were several other notable performances worth mentioning.

Axar Patel, for instance, picked up two wickets while conceding just 13 runs in three overs, and also stayed till the end by scoring an unbeaten 19 runs to help Delhi finish the match. Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, and Ishant Sharma also picked up two wickets each, restricting Delhi to a paltry total of 127 in their 20-over quota.

    [ad_1]

Ahmedabad: Giving the message of unity among different castes and sects, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Friday that “earlier we were one, but we created divisions in the form of castes which were widened by foreigners and for this country, we will once again have to become one”.

Addressing RSS workers here in the programme “Samaj Sakti Sangam” (confluence of social power), Bhagwat remembered Dr B R Ambedkar on his 132nd birth anniversary and said Babasaheb had said that an equality-based society (samta-yukt samaj) will only lead to the development of the country.

“Ambedkar had said that we were defeated by foreign invaders as we were divided,” Bhagwat said.

Gadkari bats for public transport, says road traffic generates 40% air pollution

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Making a strong case for improving and promoting the use of public transport, Union Minister for Highways Nitin Gadkari said that road transport alone is responsible for 40 percent of the air pollution in India, here on Thursday.

Addressing the 11th Biennial International Conference on Ports, Shipping and Logistics, Gadkari said that the government is implementing various measures to promote public transport as ecology and environment are the ‘highest priority’.

He referred to the double-decker buses in Mumbai and Bengaluru bus services as examples of these measures, and road projects worth Rs 65,000 crore underway in and around Delhi.

    MS Education Academy

Besides, approval has been given for 260 ropeways and cable cars and other public transport modes to reduce road traffic congestion and air pollution, the Minister said.

The Centre is also trying to construct electric highways, and along with electric vehicles, make use of vehicles with flex engines.

Since hydrogen is the fuel of the future, there should be no hassles running trucks and buses using methanol as fuel even in Mumbai to reduce fuel costs and pollutants, Gadkari said.

The government has also started 36 green highway projects and paid more than the market value as compensation for the lands being acquired for these ventures, removing all hurdles in this process.

“We are working to reduce logistics cost to 9 per cent — which is currently 14-16 per cent — by 2024. Better roads and lower logistic costs will help in enhancement of trade business and industry,” said Gadkari.

He said that 5-6 logistics parks will be set up in Maharashtra, and the work of construction of dry ports at Jalna and Wardha in the state has been completed and now the work of construction of similar dry ports in Nashik and Pune is being undertaken.

Gadkari urged that if water transport can be launched between Mumbai and Goa, the entire picture of transportation in this region will change as its very cost-effective compared with road and rail, and if alternative fuels are used, the cost of water transport will further reduce.

  • After row, Sharad Pawar ‘clarifies’ on JPC probe remarks, bats for SC panel

After row, Sharad Pawar ‘clarifies’ on JPC probe remarks, bats for SC panel

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: A day after his sensational remarks expressing doubts over a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Hindenburg Research report against the Adani Group, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar on Saturday claimed that he was in favour of a Supreme Court-monitored investigation.

The senior leader also frowned at the manner in which the names of industrialists like Ambani-Adani were being tossed around to target the BJP government at the Centre instead of bigger issues like inflation, unemployment and farmers.

Clarifying his stance after the ruckus following his comments to a TV channel on Friday, Pawar said he was not opposed to the JPC probe, but if the Committee comprises 21 members, then 15 would be from the ruling side and the remaining six from the Opposition side.

    MS Education Academy

In view of the imbalance, coupled with the government’s majority in both Houses of Parliament, the NCP supremo opined that the JPC report would only “endorse the government’s stand on the Adani issue”.

“I feel that instead of a JPC, a Supreme Court-appointed commission is more reliable and independent,” said Pawar, adding that he had no knowledge of the Rs 20,000 crore raised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

He also attempted to delink the question of a united Opposition front vis-a-vis the demand for a JPC and said the two are not connected though his utterances sent shockwaves among the Opposition circles.

“I don’t think the demand for JPC has anything to do with Opposition unity. We have also made the same plea but it would be commanded by the ruling party, so I spoke about a SC-named panel,” declared Pawar.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said in Mumbai that “there’s nothing new in what Pawar has said”, and his statement would have no impact on the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance in the state as speculated in some sections of the media.

The Congress has yet to respond in the matter after Pawar’s interview to a news channel questioning the demand for a JPC probe, the credence to be given to a report by a foreign institution.

  • Telangana: Congress leader bats for Dalit Bandhu-style scheme for Muslims

Telangana: Congress leader bats for Dalit Bandhu-style scheme for Muslims

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Secretary Mohammad Rashid Khan called on Minority Welfare Minister K Easwar and submitted a memorandum demanding introduction of a Muslim Bandhu scheme for minorities in Telangana on the lines of Dalit Bandhu.

The memorandum states that KCR had made several promises to Muslims in the 2014 and 2018 assembly elections, including 12 per cent reservation. The Waqf Board was promised judicial powers, implementation of Urdu as the second official language, construction of a new building of Haj House, provision of special budget for minority welfare and sharing of double bedroom houses in terms of population, besides starting Metro train in the old city.

In the last eight years, the promises made to Muslims have not been fulfilled. Rs 21,000 crore has been allocated for SC development while only Rs 2,200 crore has been allocated for minority welfare. Rs 3500 crore has been released for Dalit Bandhwa Scheme.

The government has promised to introduce a Dalit bandhu style scheme for Scheduled Tribes. Then, as per the recommendations of the Sachar Committee, Muslims are more educationally, socially and economically backward than Dalits in the country, the memorandum said.

Rashid Khan demanded the Minority Welfare Minister to introduce the Muslim Bandhu Scheme for the economic development of Muslims. The minority welfare minister assured to take up the issue with Chief Minister KCR.

The government of Telangana is providing financial support to the Dalit community under the ‘Dalit Bandhu Scheme’ by giving financial aid of ₹10 lakh to Dalit families. The amount will be transferred to the beneficiary’s account to start any business-related activity.

A petition was filed in the Telangana High Court alleging misuse of the scheme for political gain, as well as irregularities in beneficiary selections made by BRS MLAs.

The court finally issued orders directing that a committee appointed by the state government to receive applications and select beneficiaries for Dalit Bandhu, rather than MLAs.

  • Intel community bats down main theory behind ‘Havana Syndrome’ incidents

Intel community bats down main theory behind ‘Havana Syndrome’ incidents

    [ad_1]

    biden cabinet cia 82400

“We cannot tie a foreign adversary to any incident,” said one of the U.S. intelligence officials, who, like the other, was granted anonymity to speak more freely about the assessment.

Investigators studied more than 1,500 reports from across the U.S. government that detailed symptoms ranging from headaches to dizziness, the intelligence officials said.

“There is no one explanation for any of this,” the second U.S. intelligence official said. “We believe that what these officers are reporting is real.”

The officials said most agencies involved in the assessment determined it was “very unlikely” that a foreign adversary was involved. Of the seven agencies, two had moderate-to-high confidence in that assertion, three had moderate confidence, and two said it is “unlikely” an adversary was involved but did so with low confidence, the officials said. The officials did not provide the names of those agencies.

The assessment is based not just on a lack of evidence but also existing evidence that actually “points against” a foreign actor being involved, the second official said.

The assessment also found that no foreign adversary has a weapon or collection device that is causing the incidents. Two agencies said they had high confidence in that determination, three had moderate confidence, and two had low confidence because they believe radio-frequency energy is a “plausible cause.”

“The intelligence community assessment released today by ODNI reflects more than two years of rigorous, painstaking collection, investigative work, and analysis by IC agencies including CIA,” CIA Director Bill Burns said in a statement. “We applied the agency’s very best operational, analytic, and technical tradecraft to what is one of the largest and most intensive investigations in the agency’s history.”

Initial reports about the mysterious syndrome first emerged in 2016 among U.S. and Canadian diplomatic staff in Havana, Cuba. The diplomats complained of hearing piercing sounds coming from one direction and acute nausea and vertigo. In the years that followed, hundreds of additional U.S. government workers reported symptoms that aligned with those initial health reports.

The buildup of reporting prompted lawmakers and various agencies throughout the U.S. government to investigate potential reasons for the unexplained health incidents.

The intelligence assessment briefed to reporters Wednesday contradicts previous findings from various government groups.

In 2020, the National Academies of Sciences Engineering and Medicine said it found that the most probable cause of the syndrome was “directed, pulsed-radio frequency energy.” A year later, administration officials told Congress they were increasingly worried about the reporting and that there was a chance a foreign adversary — potentially Russia — was using a weapon to target Americans. And a panel of experts put together by the intelligence community also found that an external energy source could have caused the symptoms and that a foreign power could have been involved.

When the reports initially emerged, intelligence officials said medical studies suggested that the incidents represented a new medical syndrome that looked similar to a traumatic brain injury. Now, they said, that medical thinking has evolved and the intelligence community found that the symptoms did not fall into any discernible patterns.

The two intelligence officials said the seven agencies looked at reports spanning 96 countries. Some of the reports took place on different continents on the same day.

When the intelligence community initially launched its investigation two years ago, analysts approached the probe with the assumption that a foreign actor was targeting Americans intentionally with portable technology. But as they examined the data more closely, those assumptions did not hold, the officials said.

Analysts and officials contacted other governments to understand the extent to which their employees were experiencing similar symptoms. Those governments did not indicate that they had received an “upswell” in those kinds of reports.

“I want to be absolutely clear: These findings do not call into question the experiences and real health issues that U.S. government personnel and their family members — including CIA’s own officers — have reported while serving our country,” Burns said.
