    SRINAGAR: The government on Wednesday attached SP Traffic (Rural) Jammu with J&K police headquarters with immediate effect.

    According to an order, SP Traffic (City) has been given additional charge of the post.

    “In the interest of administration, Shri Ranjit Singh, SP Traffic (Rural), Jammu is hereby attached with Police Headquarters, J&K, with immediate effect. M. Fiesel Qureshi, SP Traffic (City), Jammu shall hold the additional charge of the post of SP Traffic (Rural), Jammu, in addition to his own duties, till further orders,” it reads. (KNO)

    SRINAGAR: Police and army on Wednesday said they busted a militant hideout in Khari Jamlwan forest area of Ramban district, leading to recovery of huge cache of arms and ammunition.

    Quoting an official, KNO reported that information was received through reliable sources regarding presence of cache of arms, ammunition and related material in far flung hilly and forest area of Khari.

    He said acting swiftly on the input, a joint search operation was launched in the area and suspected hideout locations were searched which continued till evening, during which arms and ammunition among other things were recovered from the spot.

    He said the recoveries include 256 7.62 MM cartridges, 36 7.62 MM empty cartridges, 5 AK-47 magazines, 34 9 MM cartridges and other material.

    He said a case FIR number 77/2023 under section 7/25 Arms act and Sec 4 Explosives substances act has been registered at P/S Banihal and investigation has been taken up.

    SRINAGAR: A porcupine that has been causing damage to the trees and orchards in the village of Gurwait Kalan in the Khansahib area of Budgam district has been caught by Hilal Ahmad Najar, a local resident.

    Najar was able to do so on his own, prompting some locals to question why the department had not been more effective. The residents reported spotting over a dozen porcupines in the area, all of which have been causing damage to crops and vegetation.

    “We appeal wildlife department to rescue us from this havoc of porcupines” locals said.

The theft of such a large quantity of illegal substances has sent shockwaves through the community, and law enforcement agencies are scrambling to track down the perpetrators of this audacious crime.

    The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, has left the local police department in disarray. While the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and other senior police officials were tight-lipped about the matter, sources have revealed that an FIR has been registered at the Rajouri police station.

    SRINAGAR: Stating that there was no need to panic over the Covid resurgence in Jammu and Kashmir, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, V K Bidhuri on Wednesday said that the situation is under control. He, however, said that the guidelines related to the pandemic will be issued again in case the cases increase further.

    Talking to the reporters here, the Divisional Commissioner said that the cases have started increasing, but the situation is under control and being monitored.

    “It may be the seasonal fluctuation as witnessed in the past, but we are monitoring the situation and people who feel any symptoms should go for testing,” he said.

    He added that if the cases increase further, government will come up with fresh guidelines.

    Asked about the Smart City project, he said that the work will be completed in time. “The weather is not conducive for blacktopping, but it would also be done once the weather conditions improve,” he said. (KNO)

  • Two Critically Injured In Road Accident

    SRINAGAR: Two persons were injured in a road accident in Siligam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday evening, officials said.

    As per officials, the accident took place at Siligam Aishmuqam near BED College, where a motorcycle carrying two pillion riders was coming from Aishmuqam to Anantnag collided with a parked Auto Load carrier at Siligam.

    As a result, two pillion riders, identified as Faizan Mushtaq Dar, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, resident of Seer Hamdan, and Huzaif Riyaz Nangroo, son of Riyaz Ahmad Nangroo, resident of Khiram Srigufwara, were critically injured.

    They were immediately taken to SDH Seer, where doctors referred them to GMC Anantnag.

    Police officials have registered a case (FIR No. 19/23 U/S 279,337 RPC) at the Aishmuqam police station and are conducting further investigations. (KS)

    SRINAGAR: Two militants, who were involved in grenade throwing incident on a wine shop in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on May 17 last year, have fled from the police custody, officials said on Wednesday.

    Quoting an official, KNO reported that two LeT militants identified as Maroof Nazir and Shahid Showkat, who were arrested on May 19 last year, fled from Baramulla police station today morning.

    He said that following the incident security forces have launched a massive search operation to nab them.

    The official said the militants were lodged in police station Baramulla and escaped during Sehri time.

    “A case has been registered in this regard and efforts are on to nab them,” he said.

    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party president (JKAP) has been provided ‘Z+’ category armed Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) security cover by the government of India.

    ANI reported that the businessman-turned-politician and former Minister Altaf Bukhari (65) will be provided ‘Z+’ category security round the clock in Jammu and Kashmir, following a recent security review meeting based on an Intelligence Bureau threat analysis.

    The security was accorded to the Apni Party President by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

    Z+ security is the second highest level of security in India

    The Apni Party, comprising mainly legislators and former ministers, was founded in March 2020, eight months after the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A. Since then, nearly two dozen legislators have joined it.

    SRINAGAR: On Wednesday, the government decided to postpone the restructuring of the Public Works (R&B) Department until further notice. The restructuring included reorganization of the cadre and rationalization of the jurisdiction of its subordinate and field offices to align with the territorial boundaries of the Jammu and Kashmir divisions, districts, and blocks.

    The government order states, ‘The restructuring of the Public Works (R&B) Department by way of re-organisation of cadre and rationalization of jurisdiction(s) ordered in terms in Government Order No. 22-JK (GAD) of 2023 dated 06.01.2023 is hereby deferred till further orders.’

    As per the January 6 order, the Development Commissioner Works (Ex-officio Secretary Tech. R&B Department) was re-designated as Engineer-in-Chief (Secretary Technical R&B Department). Similarly, the Mechanical Engineering Department Jammu and Kashmir was renamed as Mechanical and Hospital Directorate J/K.

    Also, one post each of Chief Engineer in the Mechanical Wing and Chief Engineer of the Mughal Road Project were transferred to the Civil Wing. The government ordered the conversion of three posts of Chief Engineers, one each from SKUAST-Kashmir, SKUAST-Jammu, and SKIMS Soura, from deputation posts to duty posts by abolishing these posts from the concerned subsumed/merged engineering wings of departments.

    Mechanical Engineers were posted in the Civil Wing of R&B, except in the Jammu zone, for the purpose of snow clearance and other works, as follows: Each Chief Engineer (Civil) R&B (Zonal Office) was to have one Executive Engineer (Mechanical); Each Superintending Engineer (Civil) R&B (Circle Office) was to have one AEE (Mechanical); Each Executive Engineer (Civil) R&B (Division Office) was to have one AE (Mechanical) in their offices, and each Assistant Executive Engineer (Civil) R&B (Sub Division Office) was to have one JE (Mechanical) in their offices.

    The government also ordered the conversion of eight (08) deputation posts of Superintending Engineers (Civil) to duty posts by abolishing these posts from the concerned subsumed department(s) for their adjustment in new territorial jurisdictions identified for these Superintending Engineers (Civil).

    It ordered the conversion of deputation posts of Superintending Engineer (Meeh) (01), Executive Engineer (Meeh) (05), Assistant Executive Engineer (Meeh) (04), Assistant Engineer (Mech) (04), and Junior Engineer (Meeh) (14) from subsumed departments into duty posts by abolishing such posts from the concerned subsumed/merged engineering wings of departments.

    The government also ordered the conversion of deputation posts of Executive Engineers (Civil) (36), Assistant Executive Engineers (56), Assistant Engineers (19), Junior Engineer (82), and Draftsman (Civil) (48) into duty posts by abolishing these posts from the concerned subsumed/merged engineering wings of departments.

    It also ordered the formulation of new cadre strength as per the revised structure for inclusion in the respective Schedule-II of Gazetted/Non-Gazetted Engineering Recruitment Rules by issuance of corresponding notifications, thereby revising SRO-661 (Gazetted) and SRO-654 (Non-Gazetted) dated 25.10.2019, respectively.
