    SRINAGAR: Taking first hand review of ongoing works under G-20 Summit, the Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri on Tuesday issued clear cut directions to all Officers, Officials and contractors associated with these works to complete them within set timelines.

    The Div Com issued this direction during a high level meeting held here to take review of works completed, and ongoing works under G-20 Summit.

    Among others, the meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Commissioner SMC/ CEO Srinagar Smart City Limited, V.C LC&MA, Director Floriculture, Labour Commissioner J&K, SSP Security, SSP Traffic City, C.Es of PW (R&B), PHE (Jal Shakti), I&FC (Jal Shakti), KPDCL Kashmir and other Officers and Officials besides Contractors of works going on under G-20 Summit.

    At the outset, the Div Com said that the works are for the people and should be completed at an earliest for their convenience. He sought feedback from the participants regarding the needs and requirements vis a vis meeting work completion deadlines.

    During the meeting, the Div Com took detailed work wise status from the concerned Officers and Contractors involved in the respective works.

    The Div Com gave a deadline of 10 days to most of the works including concrete works, footpaths, tiling works, drainage works, underground works, landscaping and turfing that are still going on including the blacktopping works and installation of signages.

    He instructed the concerned to check if there is need of labour component and directed the Labour Commissioner J&K to provide labour to them to meet the demand.

    He also directed them to start parallel works to ensure timely completion of all works.

    The Div Com gave a deadline of upto Eid to complete the blacktopping works. (GNS)

  • Budget 2023-24 To Give Major Infrastructural Push To Transform Power, Road Sectors In JK

    SRINAGAR: The budget 2023-24 will give a major infrastructural push to four core areas of health, drinking water, power and road connectivity aimed at providing succour to the common people and improving developmental parameters of UT at the national level, government said in a statement.

    The budget has earmarked funds for providing Functional Household Tap Connections  to all 18.36 lakh households of Jammu and Kashmir by 2023- 24 with a minimum of 55 litres per capita per day (LPCD) drinking water supply of prescribed quality (confirming to BIS 10500) on a regular, longterm and sustainable basis.

    About sixty water supply schemes are likely to be completed during 2023-24. To bring efficiency in planning and revenue collection, the government will introduce digitalization of consumer records and implementation of an online billing systems in entire Jammu and Kashmir.

    The construction of prestigious Tawi Barrage, an artificial lake project which will boost tourism of Jammu city, will be completed during 2023-24.

    According to the budget document, 6000 Kilometer of blacktopping of roads is expected to be achieved during 2023-24 under all schemes. Besides, 353 new projects worth Rs 1292 crore have been prioritized to be sanctioned under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF)-XXVIII with NABARD funding.

    In last year’s budget, safety audit of bridges having completed 20 years was completed and now in this budget Safety audit for the bridges having completed 10 years has to be conducted during 2023-24.

    JK government is also putting efforts on maintenance of road/bridge assets and also for road safety measures.

    The year 2023-24 will see further Improvement in daily hours of power supply with Urban- 24 hours and Rural 22 hours besides a reduction in transformer damage rate, a drop in Transmission and Distribution/ Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses.

    Under Budget 2023-24, there will be an additional length of LT/HT network (1324.073 km) besides renovation and modernization works would be undertaken at existing 220/132 KV Grid Sub Stations apart from protection/ replacement works at critical towers and insertion of new towers.

    To improve power connectivity in remote areas that receive heavy snowfall, Sonamarg will be provided 24×7 power supply during winters with underground cabling through Z-Morh Tunnel  besides underground cabling would be done at Nunwan for reliable power supply to holy cave of Shri Amar Nath Ji.

    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir reported 97 fresh covid-19 cases while there was no death due to the virus during the last 24 hours, officials said on Tuesday.

    They said that 49 cases were reported from Jammu division and 48 from Kashmir Valley, taking the overall tally to 480230. Among the cases, 174353 are from Jammu division and 305967 from Kashmir Valley.

    Providing district wise details of the cases, officials said that 28 cases were reported Jammu, 14 from Srinagar, 10 from Budgam, seven from Kulgam, six Samba, four each from Udhampur and Kishtwar, three each from Rajouri, Baramulla, Ganderbal, two each from Reasi and Pulwama besides one each from Kathua, Poonch and Bandipora.

    There was no death either from Jammu division or Kashmir valley during the time. So far 4788 people have succumbed to the virus and among them include 2355 from Jammu division and 2433 from the Valley.

    Besides, they said, 52 Covid-19 patients recovered during the last 24 hours, seven from Jammu division and 45 from Kashmir Valley. There are now 471 active cases, 200 in Jammu and 271 in Kashmir. (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has recently launched a new “Syllabus cum Academic Calendar” for the upcoming academic session 2023-24. The syllabus is intended for the foundational stage and classes 1 to 8 of the schooling system in Jammu and Kashmir. This comprehensive document was developed in collaboration with experts from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 to improve the quality of education in the region.

    The syllabus aims to shift the focus from rote learning to competency and experiential-based learning, thereby enhancing the quality of education. The syllabus is aligned with the latest guidelines and instruction manuals issued by NCERT, New Delhi, and maps the learning outcomes with the contents of the prescribed textbooks of J&K Board of School Education.

    The syllabus also emphasizes the importance of inclusive education and provides teachers with the knowledge and skills to create an inclusive classroom environment. Additionally, it provides resources such as tactile diagrams/maps, talking books, audio-visual materials, Braille, etc., to support children with special needs.

    The document is available in parts on the website of the SCERT for easy access by teachers, students, and parents. With the launch of this new syllabus, Jammu and Kashmir has become the first Union Territory to create such a comprehensive document, outpacing all other states and union territories in the country. It is expected that this new syllabus will enhance the quality of education in Jammu and Kashmir and help students develop the skills and competencies needed for success in the 21st century.

    SRINAGAR: Power Controller Kashmir has informed that, the power supply to Receiving Stations including Kremshore, Kanir, Khansahib, Raithan, Branwar and Hanjura shall remain affected on April 15 from 10.00 am to 4 pm.

    Similarly, the power supply to receiving stations Narbal, Sanoor, Zainkote, Shalteng and Bakshpora shall remain affected on April 12 and 15 from 09 am to 3 pm.

    The snapping of power supply is believed to have been done in order to facilitate the necessary maintenance of power supply lines.

  • Interstate Drug Module Busted, Woman Kingpin Arrested Along With Four Others

    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police Tuesday said that they have busted a major interstate drug module in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district by arresting five persons including a kingpin woman.

    Police said that so far they have made five arrests in this regard and contraband substance has also been seized.

    Of the five arrested one woman kingpin who has been accused of running the entire module has been arrested along with her husband. Almost every member of her family is involved in drug peddling and has one or more than one FIRs registered in the police stations of Sopore town, police said.

    Addressing a press conference, senior superintendent of police Sopore, Shabir Nawab, said that on March 01 police got information about the movement of a drug consignment.

    In this regard a police Naka was set up at Tarzoo and police held two persons identified as Tanveer Ahmed Shah and Javaid Ahmed Shah of Sopore along with 3512 tablets of Spasmo proxyvon plus tablets and an FIR was launched.

    He said that during further investigation they revealed the name of another person involved in selling drugs in and around Sopore. “The arrested person was identified as Amir Sadeeq Parra of Chandoosa Baramulla. On his personal search 112 tablets were recovered.”

    He said during further investigation names of two kingpins identified as Urooj daughter of Mohammad Muzzafar Bhat of Batapora Sopore and her associate  Mohammad Ashraf Mir son of Late Farooq Ahmed Mir of Hathishah Sopore also surfaced.

    Police said that the woman kingpin’s along with her husband was suppling drugs from outside valley to sopore.

    “The duo was involved in supplying drugs from outside valley to Sopore and other areas. On the confession of arrested persons, we managed to arrest the duo from Srinagar outskirts along with 1648 capsules. With their arrest we have managed to bust a major interstate module”, he said, adding that the woman Kingpins entire family is involved in drug peddling.

    Adding further he said, “We are still investigating the matter and trying to locate all the possible links within and outside the state.”

    Meanwhile, a case FIR No 07/2023 U/S 8/22-29 NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Bomai and further investigation has been set into motion.

  • 27 Injured As Bus Overturns

    b At least 27 passengers’ sustained injuries after a bus overturned in the Udhampur district of Jammu on Tuesday.

    The mishap occurred near Dak Bungalow Ramnagar area of the district.

    Quoting officials, Kashmir News Trust reported that 27 passengers on board were injured and shifted to Sub-District Hospital, Ramnagar for treatment.

    Police said that the bus was on its way to Surni from Ramnagar.

    The condition of the injured is said to be stable.

    SRINAGAR: The government of Himachal Pradesh is readying to introduce water body tourism in the state on the analogy of Kashmir’s Dal Lake.

    The HP government is contemplating to introduce shikaras, houseboats and cruise boats under a new scheme of tourism department, in its major water bodies which are mainly the reservoirs of the hydropower projects, besides promoting the water sports, Hindustan Times reported.

    The proposal to introduce the shikaras and houseboats at the Maharana Pratap Sagar (Pong Dam) in Kangra district on the lines of Dal Lake is expected to become a major hit in tourism sector in North India, HT reported.

    It reported that the Himachal Pradesh government has approached the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to allow setting up tourism infrastructure along the water bodies.

    The NTPC operates 300-megawatt Kol Dam Hydroproject while the BBMB operates Bhakra Power Project and Pong Dam project.

    Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had recently asked the officers to prepare a new policy to promote Chamera, Pong, Bhakra and Koldam from a tourism point of view.

    Notably, tourism constitutes seven percent of Himachal’s GDP and 14.42 percent of direct and indirect employment to the total employment in the state.

    To develop new tourist destinations, the state government had implemented a new scheme “Nai Rahein Nai Manzilein” in the year 2018-19 to develop the unexplored areas of the state from tourism point of view.

    The government is further mulling to develop infrastructure for promoting water sports activities and other tourism related activities along these water bodies in the state.
