In view of the possibility of third wave of corona in Jammu and Kashmir, especially the pediatric management is being strengthened. Instructions have been given to make Pediatric ICU, Maternity ICU and Hybrid ward functional in all district hospitals of the state at the earliest. With this, emphasis has been laid on starting Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in new medical colleges at the earliest.

Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Medical Education, reviewed the preparedness in the Kovid-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness Package Phase-2 (ECRP) in a high-level meeting of the Executive Committee of the State Health Society on Tuesday. Additional Chief Secretary said that all effective steps should be taken to minimize the impact of possible third wave of COVID.

One Center of Excellence each with modern medical facilities will soon be set up in Jammu and Srinagar. New RTPCR labs are being made functional in five district hospitals soon. Necessary formalities are being completed for the procurement of DNA sequencer at GMC Srinagar and GMC Jammu soon. Modern ambulances equipped with advanced life support facilities are being provided to the patients.

An effective Information Education and Communication (IEC) campaign should be launched to make people aware about the appropriate behavior of COVID. In this, the benefits of SOPS and vaccine will also be told. Mission Director NHM informed about the preparations for ERHSP. Dulloo directed the MED Chief Engineers of both the divisions to set up oxygen generation plants by the end of July. It was informed in the meeting that by the end of August, 172 Oxygen Generation Plants would start functioning in the hospitals.
