Jammu-Srinagar National Highway: Udhampur- Ramban Highway section to be completed by next year

Summary

The remaining work on the Udhampur-Ramban section, Ramban-Banihal section and Srinagar-Banihal section on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway will be completed in the next year. This was stated by Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta and Secretary, Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways Giridhar Armane in a high level meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of the road sector projects in Jammu and Kashmir under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP). During this meeting, he said that the work on Baramulla-Gulmarg road is going on and it is expected to be completed by April 2022. Similarly, work on Jammu Semi-Ring Road and Jammu-Akhnoor-Poonch Road is also in progress and will be completed by March 2022 and March 2024 respectively.

It was informed in the meeting that work on Srinagar-Shopian-Qazigund road would also start soon along with construction of 3 bypass roads for the towns of Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian. During this, the Chief Secretary asked for the introduction of parking bays and toilet facilities on the National Highway by November 2021 to improve the travel experience of the passengers.
