Jammu and Kashmir’s PDP chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said her statement on Taliban was being deliberately distorted and used in a wrong way. He says that Muslims are always expected to prove that they are not with violence. In fact, Mehbooba Mufti said on Wednesday that the Taliban has now become a reality.

He said the Taliban should rule Afghanistan under “real Sharia” law. They should also ensure that their earlier image was against humanity and basic rights. Mehbooba said that if the Taliban want to rule Afghanistan, they must follow the actual Sharia rules. Due to these comments, he was criticized a lot in the media as well as on social media platforms.

A day after his remarks, the former chief minister said he was not surprised that his statement on Sharia was deliberately distorted. He said that most countries that claim to uphold Sharia have failed to imbibe its true values. Mehbooba wrote on Twitter, she only knows what to do and what not to do, ban women through dress code etc.

He said that the original Medina Charter stipulates equal rights for men, women and minorities. Mehbooba said that Islamic history is full of examples of empowered women. Hazrat Khadija Tul Kubra, the first wife of Prophet SWA was an independent and successful business woman. He said that Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqui led the camel battle and led a contingent of 13000 soldiers.

He said Muslims are always expected to prove that they are not in favor of violence. The PDP chief said that I can see why my statement is being used to further this perception.
