Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) operates on intra-state and district routes, but does not offer services from district headquarters to rural areas. Due to this, the dependence of the common people is only on private vehicles. Private vehicles are the den of robbery, which keep the rules in mind and charge more fare from the people.
At present, the government is not working on any plan to start the government bus service for rural areas. The corporation says that it is not possible to start a bus on every route. It will be a challenge to get fixed revenue on the routes of rural areas.
JKRTC Managing Director Angrez Singh Rana said that we have surveyed the routes of rural areas, but it is not possible to start bus service on every route. We have started bus service from districts to sub division and tehsil level. It is not possible to start bus service on the roads built under PMGS within the districts. Nevertheless, we are marking such routes on our side, where people will also get convenience by running the bus and the corporation will also get revenue.
