The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday started airlift services from the state to markets like Delhi and Mumbai for perishable horticultural produce such as cherries. Giving information, an official said that Naveen Kumar Choudhary, Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Horticulture Departments, flagged off the vans carrying cherries of various vendors of the Kashmir Valley. It was later airlifted from Srinagar airport to Delhi and Mumbai. Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Chaudhary said that this is a historic event for the horticulture sector of Jammu and Kashmir. There is a distinct beginning for marketing of perishable fruits and organic vegetables. About five tonnes of fruits were airlifted on Tuesday.

The Research Department of the Agricultural University has prepared three other varieties from 370. Its taste and smell will be similar to 370. Also, it will be ready in less time and its yield will also be higher. According to the information, three varieties 118, 123 and 138 have been prepared. Its seeds have been given to 350 farmers in Roorkee, Muzaffarnagar, Hisar, Mukhtsar, Gurdaspur etc. These varieties will yield 2 quintals per kanal and 45 quintals per hectare. Whereas Basmati 370 yielded up to 25 quintals per hectare and it was ready in 160 days.
