Family members of a girl, who allegedly died due to COVID-19 after failing to get a mattress at Apollo Hospital in south Delhi, attacked the staff of the non-public healthcare facility on Tuesday, police mentioned.
However, they mentioned no criticism has been filed on this regard to date.
“The hospital received a woman in a critical condition at the emergency in the early hours of Tuesday. Immediate medical attention appropriate to her condition was given by a team,” the hospital’s spokesperson mentioned in an announcement.
“Given the paucity of beds, the family was advised to shift the patient to another facility with available beds. Unfortunately, the patient died around 8 am, following which her family members resorted to vandalism, destruction of hospital property and assault on our doctors and staff,” it mentioned.
While the hospital deeply condoles the dying of the patient, it’s deeply shocked on the behaviour of the patient’s family towards medical doctors and healthcare staff who’re offering untiring companies amidst the pandemic, the spokesperson mentioned within the assertion.
Pictures circulating on social media confirmed blood on the ground, damaged doorways and furnishings strewn round contained in the hospital.
A purported video clip of the incident confirmed the hospital staff and a few individuals engaged in a pitch battle, hitting one another with sticks, close to the hospital’s entry gate. PTI
