    The Real Forefather’s of India

A Real Father is one who takes care of all his children. He is like a banyan tree which gives shade and protection to all who come under it.

From that viewpoint, who are the real forefathers of the Indian Nation ?

    hanuman before rama

    1. The Father of the Indian Nation

The Father of the Indian Nation is the Great Mughal Emperor Akbar ( 1542-1605 ), who proclaimed the doctrine of suleh-e-kul i.e. giving equal respect to all communities, a policy which was inclusive, because of which the Mughal Empire lasted so long.

He built the Ibaadatkhana in his new capital Fatehpur Sikri, a building unique in the world, where scholars and saints of all religions discussed amicably about the good points in their religion

The Father of the Indian Nation is the Great Mughal Emperor Akbar
    Great Mughal Emperor Akbar

    2. The Grandfather of the Indian Nation

The Great Emperor Ashoka ( who ruled from 268 to 232 BC ) is the Grandfather of the Indian Nation.

    The Great Emperor Ashok
    The Great Emperor Ashok

Emperor Ashoka conceived of the idea of a Welfare State, 2000 years before it was conceived of by Europeans ( see Major Rock Edicts 2, 6, and 7, and Pillar Edicts 1 and 6 ). He regarded all his subjects as his children, attending to their welfare being a king’s duty.

Major Rock Edict 12 ( also known as the Girnar Rock Edict ) of about 260 BC, declares Ashoka’s policy of religious tolerance

( Girnar is near Junagarh in Gujrat, and the Edict is inscribed on a rock, which I have seen ).

” Thus saith His Sacred and Gracious Majesty the King : The King honours all religious sects. His Sacred Majesty does not value gifts and honours as he values the growth of the essential elements of all religious sects. But the root of it is restraint of speech, that is, there should not be honour only of one’s own religion and condemnation of other religions. On the other hand, other religions should be honoured too.

By doing this, one helps his own religion to grow, and benefits the religion of others too. By doing otherwise, one harms his own religion and injures the other religions too. For whoever honours only his own religion and condemns others’ religions gravely injures his own religion.

Hence concord alone is commendable, and all should listen, and be willing to listen, to the beliefs professed by others. This is the desire of his Sacred Majesty. “

    3. The Great Grandfather of the Indian Nation

The Great Grandfather of the Indian Nation is Lord Rama, who regarded all his people, not just a section of them, as his children.

The Great Grandfather of the Indian Nation is Lord Rama
The Great Grandfather of the Indian Nation is Lord Rama

If he had been India’s King today, Rama would have given severe punishment to those who committed atrocities on minorities in India.

India is a country of tremendous diversity. Hence the correct policy for running it is as shown by the above great figures, i.e. giving equal respect to all communities. Promoting religious polarisation and communal hatred may benefit some people in the short run ( by getting them votes ), but in the long run it will do great harm to our nation.

As Bheeshma Pitamah told Yudhishthir :

    भेदे गणाः विनश्यन्ति भिन्नास्तु सजाया: पराः

    तस्मात् संघातयेंन प्रयतरेण गणाः सदा

    i.e.

“ Republics are destroyed only because of internal strife among the people

Therefore the authorities in a republic should always strive to maintain good relations among the people “

( Bheeshma Pitamah’s upadesh to Yudhishthir in the Shantiparva of Mahabharat, chapter 107/108, shloka 14 ).

  • Trudeau’s Hobson’s choice – Canada India relations

    Trudeau’s Hobson’s choice – Canada India relations

The ongoing diplomatic tensions between India and Canada has taken the center stage both in Canada and India. The war of nerves continues without resolution, with a series of tit for tat responses. Leaders on both sides appear to have firmed up their stances as the relations between two key democratic countries in the world flounders.

At the center of this rift is the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey in Canada’s British Columbia earlier in June this year. He was a plumber by day and a Khalistani terrorist by night who had active links to Pakistani and Canadian Intelligence agencies. The man was wanted by Indian security agencies for several years now, on multiple charges that included terrorism, narcotics, murder, and fake passport rackets.

Can two major liberal democracies snap their relations over the death of an otherwise small time plumber cum terrorist who was unknown to Canadian public? Had Canada not gone public with its accusations, the matter would have had a greater chance of resolution by prudent heads via bilateral negotiations behind closed doors in Ottawa or New Delhi.

There was further escalation when Prime Minister Trudeau, while addressing Parliament had the chutzpah to ask India to cooperate with them in the on-going investigations, thereby preemptively declaring his presumptions of guilt on part of India. This is no diplomatese or for that matter able statesmanship.

In a further embarrassment to the Canadians, media reports have pointed out the plain incompetence of Canadian security agencies who have made no headway in the murder investigations even after three months, despite the availability of CCTV footages and eye witness accounts.

Its appeal for support from its Five Eyes partners had at best, a cautious response from the US, while others mouthed carefully measured statements but offered no direct condemnation of India. Canada’s diplomatic intransigence pushed itself into a corner thus magnifying a problem that it created in the first place.

The Canadian government as well as media – electronic media in particular – have been actively shepherding the narrative on the row to one of freedom of expression and Canada’s sense of justice and propriety in international conduct.

The reality of course is at variance with Mr. Trudeau’s public posturing. The real problem, between the two countries is the shelter, support and sustenance provided to anti-India terrorists who are seeking to break away territory from India.

The Canadian government has been supporting anti-India groups and individuals for many decades now. In recent years however, Canada under Mr. Trudeau, has crossed the diplomatic red line on several occasions – by repeatedly commenting on India’s domestic politics and turning a blind eye to terrorists putting up posters to kill Hindus and Indian diplomats in Canada.

Slicing through the crafted diplomatic veneer of Prime Minister Trudeau’s “… rule of law, country and the protection of our citizens and defense of our sovereignty are fundamental…”, speech in Parliament, we continue to see Canada’s serial duplicity in mouthing something and doing the exact opposite. How come Canada’s sovereignty is more sacrosanct than India’s territorial integrity?

So that explains the anxiety of the Trudeau administration and major sections of its media to spin doctor a narrative far removed from the real reasons for the current state of Indo-Canadian affairs. The Indian media, on the other hand, has been level headed and reported the unfolding episodes by bringing in opinion makers from both countries to the table.

The fragility of Trudeau’s ruling coalition and hence his compulsions to pander to extremist Sikh groups that spearhead the National Democratic Party of Canada are well understood. But to jeopardize Canada’s key international relationship, particularly during a less favorable economic cycle, for the sake of political expediency only smacks of myopia and political immaturity.

Prime Minister Modi on the other hand, runs a very strong and stable government and enjoys the loyal support of almost 80% of its vast populace. India under Modi today is of a different mettle. Lot of quiet transformations are already in place – be it bilateral dealings or securing India’s vital interests. As a powerful economy that is leading the resurgence of global economies, it has over the years invested and upgraded itself to deal with existential threats from far and near.

Unlike the past, the Indian security establishment is now more than willing and capable of delivering a “global solution to global threats” to the safety, security, and territorial integrity of India. Furthermore, India has demonstrated the political will to execute it.

The problem is that Canada, like many other countries, has discovered much to its chagrin, that it is no longer business as usual with India. India is no more the worlds’ whipping boy who will take state duplicity lying down when it comes to its security and safety of its citizens.

It must be noted here that in official communiques, the government of India while rejecting Trudeau’s statements, has sought evidence of Indian hand in the murder of the plumber-terrorist. India knows fully well that no intelligence apparatus of a nation worth its salt will share its intelligence on matters of such high visibility that would compromise its assets.

It is worth mentioning that India has not publicly denied its hands in getting rid of threats to its territorial integrity. As the Indian foreign minister Dr S Jayshankar said, ”political convenience cannot give way to terrorism”. But if Canada or any other country would choose to do business with India in its old-fashioned ways, there will certainly be a “global response to global terror”. Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau has a Hobson’s choice on his hand.

  • Gyanvapi or Shahi Masjid will be demolished before 2024 elections

Gyanvapi or Shahi Masjid will be demolished before 2024 elections

My dear friend Irfan Ali ( email irfan79@gmail.com ) who lives and works in Princeton, New Jersey, USA has prompted me to write this article. Evidently Irfan was put off by my article that the newly formed alliance of 28 opposition parties called INDIA ( Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance ) is a stunt

In response to my article Irfan wrote angrily on whatsapp :
” It appears that you don’t want an opposition in India? What would take you to support a strong opposition to fight this authoritarian demagogue? Should there be no opposition in India at all ? You seem more into Pakistan politics when your own system is screwed up. INDIA is a combination of 28 parties but NDA has 36. Who is doing a stunt? ”.
    To which I responded :
” I have never said I don’t want an opposition, so don’t twist my words. Of course I want an opposition, but the meaningful opposition can’t be within the system of parliamentary democracy, but can only be by a historical united people’s revolutionary struggle led by modern minded leaders determined to rapidly modernize and industrialise the country. I have explained this in detail in many of articles, which u may see ”.
I had earlier written an article that BJP will win the coming Lok Sabha elections in India in 2024.

Irfan thinks that INDIA can help in ousting BJP from power. I totally disagree.

What I foresee is this : a few months or a few weeks before the 2024 parliamentary elections the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi, or the Shahi Masjid in Mathura will be demolished by a huge mob of fanatics ( just as the Babri Masjid was demolished ).

    Gyanvapi and Shahi Masjid

This will generate an emotional wave all over India, on the basis of which BJP will easily win ( never mind how many people will be killed or other ‘collateral damage’ done in the backlash ).
Most Indians are emotional, not rational, and they vote accordingly not on real issues like poverty, unemployment, hunger, lack of healthcare, price rise, etc. For instance, in 1962 the Indian army invaded Goa, and soon thereafter parliamentary elections were held, in which Congress swept the polls, with people in a victory mood. After Indira Gandhi’s assassination in 1984 parliamentary elections were held, and in the sympathy wave Congress secured a record over 400 seats in the Lok Sabha.

The BJP came to power in 1998 and in 1999 because of the fervour generated by the Ram Janmabhoomi agitation.

On 26th February 2019 the Indian Air Force conducted a ‘surgical strike’ in Balakot in retaliation to the Pulwama attack on 14th February which was attributed to Pakistan trained terrorists. Two months thereafter, and in a martial hysteria ( with the slogan ‘Pakistaniyon ko ghar mein ghus ke maara hai’ ), parliamentary elections were held in India in April-May 2019, in which BJP won with an increased majority.

The Babri Masjid was demolished in December 1992 when Congress was in power in the centre, and despite an undertaking given in the Suprême Court by UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh of the BJP that it would not be demolished.

So undertakings mean nothing, and now both Central & State Governments are of the BJP.
So a huge mob of fanatics will very likely demolish either Varanasi or Mathura mosque, with the police turning a Nelson’s eye.
Then in that emotional surge and communal passions elections will be held.

Hindus ( who are 80% of India’s population ) will be told to celebrate victory over the Muslim devils who broke our temples and committed other atrocities on us, and elections will then be held in this surcharged atmosphere, leading to a BJP victory, and with INDIA going up the chimney..
I am not approving this, but I can foresee this happening.

BJP has been in power since 2014. Will it easily give up power ? No, it will resort to every ‘saam, daam, dand, bhed’ i.e. Machiavellian tactic ( as Congress had earlier done for decades ). All is fair in love and war, as the saying goes, and politics is war.

History shows that the wars for the throne of Delhi have been ruthless, and so will be the 2024 elections.
I am afraid Irfan is living in a dreamworld

The Chief Justice of India, Justice Chandrachud, is very fond of cats

    https://indianexpress.com/article/delhi-confidential/delhi-confidential-of-cats-and-stage-justice-s-abdul-nazeer-8362019/

From a reliable source I learnt that one of his cats fell ill recently, and the CJI sent it to the Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi for treatment by the veterinary doctor posted there. The doctor performed an operation, and the cat has now recovered.

I am happy about that, but I wonder how many humans in India get medical treatment like the CJI”s cat ?

If one goes to the All India Medical Institute, Delhi ( AIIMS ), which is one of the premier medical institutes in India, he will feel he is on a railway platform, with thousands of people milling around for hours or even days, without anyone caring. The government hospitals in India are mostly no good, with doctors who should be there to attend to patients, often working instead in their private clinics, while drawing govt salaries. And the private hospitals/clinics are too expensive for the common man.

So what does the common man do ? He goes to quacks ( called jholachhaap doctors ), and the number of quacks would be several times the number of qualified doctors in India.

This also reminds me of a joke :

When a Judge’s cat or dog dies, there is usually a huge crowd of lawyers and others at his home to console him on this great tragedy.

But when the Judge dies, there is no one

  • Skipping school in Saudi Arabia? Parents could face jail

Skipping school in Saudi Arabia? Parents could face jail

Guardians in Saudi Arabia may before long face prison time in the event that their youngsters reliably play hooky, as per another order from the Service of Training. The move comes as a component of the Saudi government’s endeavors to battle delinquency and guarantee that youngsters get legitimate schooling.

Saudi Arabia has been endeavoring to further develop its school system lately, perceiving that a knowledgeable populace is indispensable for the country’s future turn of events and worldwide intensity. Notwithstanding, delinquency stays a persevering issue, for certain understudies as often as possible missing from school.

Under the new guidelines, guardians will be considered legitimately liable for their kids’ participation and reliability at school. On the off chance that an understudy collects countless unexpected no-shows, guardians could confront fines and even detainment. The seriousness of the punishments will rely upon the quantity of days a youngster is missing and the guardians’ past consistence with participation rules.

Schooling Pastor, Dr. Ahmed Al-Issa, focused on the significance of these actions in a new press explanation. He expressed, “Training is the foundation of our general public’s advancement, and it is the obligation of the two guardians and the public authority to guarantee that youngsters go to class consistently. By considering guardians responsible, we desire to diminish delinquency rates and work on instructive results for our childhood.”

The new mandate has earned blended responses from guardians and teachers in Saudi Arabia. While some acclaim the public authority’s endeavors to further develop school participation and instructive guidelines, others are worried about the likely ramifications for guardians.

Mr. Abdullah Al-Mansoori, a parent of two school-going kids, communicated his reservations, saying, “I figure out the significance of training, yet some of the time youngsters might have legitimate explanations behind missing school, like sickness. I trust the public authority will think about such circumstances and not force cruel punishments on guardians without cause.”

To address these worries, the Service of Schooling has explained that guardians will have the chance to give genuine motivations to their kids’ unlucky deficiencies. Pardoned nonappearances because of ailment or other legitimate reasons won’t prompt punishments for guardians.

The Saudi Middle Eastern government has likewise sent off a public mindfulness mission to instruct guardians about the new guidelines and the significance of customary school participation. This mission incorporates educational materials appropriated in schools and through different media channels.

Saudi Arabia’s endeavors to further develop its school system and diminish delinquency are essential for a more extensive methodology to put resources into human resources and set up the country’s labor force for the difficulties representing things to come. The public authority means to make an information based economy and increment the country’s worldwide seriousness by guaranteeing that all kids get excellent training.

As the new guidelines produce results, guardians across the realm will be intently checking their youngsters’ participation at school, and teachers will be attempting to guarantee that understudies are available and participated in the growing experience. The progress of these actions will probably rely on how actually they are carried out and implemented, as well as how well they balance the requirement for responsibility with the acknowledgment of genuine purposes behind nonappearances.

  • Pakistan has become a paagal khaana

Pakistan has become a paagal khaana

    By Justice Katju
I have been following developments in Pakistan on the social media for long, and now my mind has started spinning and my eyes boggling. Sometimes I feel like Alice in the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party ( see Lewis Carrol’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ ).

The latest event there really takes the cake. The President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, has tweeted that he did not sign two bills ( the Official Secrets Act Amendment Bill, and the Army Act Amendment Bill ), and instead he had directed his staff to return them to the government for reconsideration, but only later he learnt that they had become laws ( due to which further atrocities are being committed against the people of Pakistan ).

Arif Alvi said his staff had told him that as directed by him they had returned the Bills to the Government, but it has now transpired that they did not. If the President is correct, someone forged his signatures on the Bills, and the government notified them as laws, and they have been acted upon.

It seems everyone in Pakistan has become mad as a hatter.
There is a Cheshire Cat, to whom Alice asks ” What sort of people live here ? ”. The cat replies ” In this direction lives a Hatter, and in that direction lives a March Hare. Visit either you like : they are both mad ”

So visitors to Pakistan can go in any direction they wish. It will not matter, because the authorities, particularly the army officers and police, have gone mad everywhere.

And there is a judiciary, which keeps sleeping like the Dormouse, and has become a joke.

Alice went to see the trial of the Knave of Hearts, who stole some tarts.

The Queen shouted ” Off with his head ”. The King suggested that a trial be held first before the sentence, but the Queen kept shouting ” Sentence first, trial afterwards ”, and the accused were beheaded without a trial.

This is what is happening on a large scale in Pakistan. Tens of thousands of people have been imprisoned without a trial, their homes broke

into and ransacked, and many brutally tortured.
There is a Constitution in Pakistan, and lawyers in court keep arguing about the meaning of its provisions e.g. Article 224(2) which says that elections must be held within 90 days of dissolution of a state assembly. But what do the words in the Constitution mean ?

“When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’

’The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’

’The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, ‘which is to be master — that’s all.”

Humpty Dumpty is being followed in Pakistan. The Pakistan army is the master. The Constitution means what the army says it means

  • A Judge is not a Knight Errant

A Judge is not a Knight Errant

Justice Benjamin Cardozo, the celebrated Judge of the US Supreme Court, wrote in his book ‘The Nature of the Judicial Process’ :

” A Judge is not a Knight Errant roaming at will in search of his own ideal of beauty and goodness ”.
I submit with respect that the recent release of a 30 page handbook by the Chief Justice of India for guiding judges to avoid using gender stereotypes is violative of the above dictum of Justice Cardozo.

Supreme Court launches handbook to combat gender stereotypes within legal community

SC launches handbook on gender unjust terms; street sexual harassment to replace eve-teasing, sex worker in place of prostitute

If a 30 page handbook is needed for combating gender stereotypes, why not issue a 30 page handbook for combating stereotypes of politicians ? Can they be called crooks in a court order ( which many people think most of them are ) ?

Why not a 30 page handbook for guiding Supreme Court judges as to what words they should use for High Court judges ( e.g. should the Supreme Court in its judgment call the High Court as ‘the Court below’ ? ). And what words should the High Court judges use for subordinate judiciary judges ?

What about 30 page handbooks for civil servants, teachers, lawyers, engineers, farmers, workers, students, doctors etc ?

I submit that judges learn judicial etiquette and most things not from handbooks but by observing court conventions while practising as a lawyer, and as a junior judge from one’s seniors.

It is a long standing, well established, convention that judges should only speak through their judgments, and that is what I was taught by my seniors in the judiciary e.g. former CJI MN Venkatachaliah and former CJI J.S. Verma. Sermons and homilies delivered in 30 page handbooks are not part of a judgment, and are therefore best avoided.

  • If I was made Chief Justice of Pakistan : Justice Katju

If I was made Chief Justice of Pakistan : Justice Katju

I recently gave an interview online to a Pakistani journalist, Sohrab Barkat of siasat.pk, which is below

There were over 670 comments on Youtube after the interview was displayed. Among these were some comments, probably from Pakistanis, that I should be made Chief Justice of Pakistan ( CJP ).

The possibility is remote, but if indeed I was appointed CJP, here are the orders I would pass suo motu on the very first day of assuming charge come what may :

    1. The Army Chief Gen Munir, as well as the Corps Commanders and Principal Staff Officers, as well as the top police officers, are ordered to be immediately arrested and placed on trial before an International Tribunal, for unleashing a fascist reign of terror in Pakistan, and for crimes against humanity ( like Field Marshal Keitel and Gen Jodl at the Nuremburg trials, and Generals Tojo and Yamashita at the Tokyo trials, who were later hanged ), and given harsh punishment if found guilty.
    2. The PDM leaders, especially the arch villains Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Home Minister Rana Sanaullah, PPP leader Asif Zardari etc, are ordered to be immediately arrested for abetting the crimes of the army and police, as well as for looting the country, and put up on trial, and given harsh punishment if found guilty.
    3. National elections shall be held within two months, as Article 224 of Pakistan Constitution provides, and for this purpose all necessary funds will be released forthwith by the State Bank of Pakistan, and all security provided to ensure free and fair elections. Those who oppose this order will be promptly and severely punished for contempt of court.
4.Imran Khan and all PTI workers and supporters are released forthwith, and all charges against them in all courts or bodies are withdrawn
    4. Judges like Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Aamer Farooq, and Addl District Judge Humayun Dilawar, who are a disgrace to the judiciary, are sacked forthwith without any pension or perks.
