My interaction with a Pakistani lady – Justice Katju

I am in regular touch on whatsApp with a Pakistani lady from Lahore, whom I call ‘Lahore waali’ in lighter vein on Twitter.
Recently I sent her this whatsApp message :
” Imran Khan reminds me of a story.
A man told his friend that his father was a very brave man, who once fought with a tiger.
His friend asked ” What happened then ? “.
The man replied ” What could happen ? The tiger tore him up and ate him up ”
Imran KhanJustice Katju is like that brave man, & the US Govt is like that tiger “.
I also sent her this link :
    https://indicanews.com/release-of-imran-khan/

    She promptly replied :
” I look at it this way: there is always a thin line between bravery and foolishness. If Imran had been the typical smart politician then he would have countinued the usual dealing under the table with Army and Americans. He would have continued in the political musical chairs like the average politician who are a dime a dozen in Pakistan.
The fact that he is unusual is the reason he is noticed by the public and he has a track record as a philanthropist and an upright leader with integrity spanning some 30-40 years. The masses appreciate bravery even though it is foolish specially when it comes from someone who has stood by them on the ground, most notably in providing free healthcare in a country where doctors usually advise to let the patient die because it is a matter of spending money on a patient who is going to die anyway due to advanced age or lack of financial means.
So he is the only leader for whom people have reported pilgrims crying and praying at The Kaaba in Mecca. They feel he is connected to them “.

    To this I responded :
” Please permit me to clarify my opinion. I never said Imran Khan should have done under the table dealings with America and the Pakistan army.
But should he have given such strong and indiscrete statements against the American Govt, saying that it forced the Pakistan Govt to send 80,000 Pakistani soldiers to death in Afghanistan, made Pakistanis slaves to America, and martyred ( made shaheed ) Osama bin Laden ?
Even if those were his sincere opinions, could he not have remained silent, knowing that they were sure to antagonize the Americans if publicly proclaimed ?
Please read this article of mine

Sun Tzu, in his book ‘The Art of War’ wrote :
” In war, avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak “.
Imran Khan foolishly went against this maxim, and see the consequences “.

I am yet to receive a response from her

  • Who is behind the successful jihadist attack in Syria?

Who is behind the successful jihadist attack in Syria?

After a four-year freeze in the conflict established as a result of negotiations between Turkey and Russia, the situation in Syria has changed dramatically. Within ten days of a rapid offensive, the fighters of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group established control over most of the country, forcing the government troops to retreat.

The rapid offensive by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has reshaped the Syrian conflict, culminating in the collapse of the Assad regime. Backed by Turkey's logistical and economic support, Ukraine's drone expertise, and indirect U.S. cooperation, HTS leveraged advanced tactics to seize Damascus. This highlights the critical role of foreign actors in the region's shifting power dynamics, with Syrian civilians paying the heaviest price.

On the morning of December 8, armed opposition forces led by the HTS captured the capital of Damascus, thereby formalizing the fall of the Assad clan, which had been ruling Syria for more than 50 years. According to the latest information, former President Bashar Assad left the country and requested asylum in Russia. (more…)

  • Why my dream of visiting Pakistan will never become a reality

Why my dream of visiting Pakistan will never become a reality

I am very keen to visit Pakistan, and see the beautiful places and meet the wonderful people there. But I know this will remain only a dream

    https://www.sunrisetoday.pk/single/315

    https://indicanews.com/justice-katju-my-dream-of-visiting-lahore

I am particularly keen to see Lahore, with which I have a strong 125 year old connection from the time of my revered grandfather D KN Katju who went to study there in or around 1900.

Many Pakistanis have invited me to come to Pakistan.

However I cannot come due to these reasons :

    (1) I will never get a Pakistani visa, since I have repeatedly called Pakistan a fake ( farzi ), artificial country, created by a British swindle called Partition in 1947, on the basis of the bogus two nation theory, and said it is part of India ( like Bangladesh ) to which it will be reunited one day.

    https://www.outlookindia.com/national/pakistan-is-a-fake-and-artificial-country-news-284178

    https://www.nation.com.pk/02-Mar-2013/the-truth-about-pakistan

I explained this in my video interview to my friend Haider Raza, a Pakistani who lives in California, and took my interview there

    (2) Even assuming I get a visa, the chances are that I will be bumped off by some fanatic the moment I step down from the aircraft on Pakistani soil.

This is because I have repeatedly said that all religions ( which would include Islam ) are false and superstitions, and the truth lies in science, which is constantly developing

    http://justicekatju.blogspot.com/2016/07/religion-and-science-are-diametrically.html

    https://thephilox.com/on-religion-by-justice-markandey-katju-9th-part

I have also praised Mustafa Kemal who modernised Turkey, and asked Indian and Pakistani Muslims to give up sharia, burqa, madasas and maulanas, as these are keeping them backward.

I have said that Islam came in the world as a great liberating force, as it spread the great message of equality, from Spain to Indonesia, and gave social emancipation to the suppressed sections of society ( e.g. dalits in India ), but today it has largely become an enslaving force because of sharia, burqa, madarsas and maulanas.

    (3) My Pakistani friends who invited me said that they will ensure state security for me in Pakistan.

But even the then Governor of Punjab, Salman Taseer, was shot by his own security guard Mumtaz Qadri, just as Indira Gandhi was shot by her own guard Satwant Singh. The Praetorian Guards in ancient Rome, whose duty was to protect the Emperor, often assassinated him.

    https://thefridaytimes.com/03-Jul-2024/pakistan-s-intelligentsia-does-not-properly-understand-blasphemy-vigilantism

Thus the so called ‘security’ is in fact no security. There are plenty of extremist organisations in Pakistan which would be happy to bump me off e.g. Tehreeke Labaik, Lashkar-e-Toiba, Tehreeke Taliban, Jaish-e-Mohammed, etc

    (4) The Pakistan army are the real rulers of Pakistan, and they have unleashed a fascist reign of terror in Pakistan after the events of 9th May, 2023 ( which many say were stage managed ).

In several articles I have described and exposed the Pakistan army, particularly its senior officers, as a bunch of corrupt, amoral, mafia type, gangsters, looters, gundas, terrorists, rogues and rascals, and as vampires who have since long been sucking the blood of the Pakistani people

    https://www.theweek.in/news/india/2019/08/26/opinion-the-truth-about-the-pakistan-military.html

Several army generals, serving or retired, and their relatives are millionaires, some even billionaires. They spend a large part of the government budget on themselves, enhancing their lifestyle and retirement benefits. They are some of the richest people in Pakistan, and after joining the army and getting promoted to senior ranks (major and above) their lifestyle drastically changes. They live in splendour, with huge houses, luxury cars and designer goods.

    https://theprint.in/world/corruption-runs-deep-in-pakistan-army-report/1266553

Having said all this about them, will the generals allow me to get a visa, or allow me to live if I land on Pakistani soil ? Highly unlikely

  • Long live the brave people of Kashmir

Long live the brave people of Kashmir

Being a Kashmiri myself, I salute the Kashmiris who are holding massive protests and agitations in the Pakistan army occupied Kashmir against inflation, particularly huge rise in electricity bills and prices of foodstuffs.
To many it seem that such protests will achieve nothing, but to my mind they have a historical significance.
To my mind, the agitating Kashmiris are providing leadership to not only their own state but to the whole of India and Pakistan, in two ways. Let me explain.
    (1) The Kashmiris have rightly focused on a real, economic issue, i.e. price rise, and they have refused to be befooled by the government which usually tries to divert attention towards irrelevant issues. As the Roman Emperors used to say ” If you cannot give the people bread give them circuses ”. Unfortunately for the Pakistan Government, the Kashmiris will not be satisfied with having circuses any longer, but insist on having bread.
Massive unemployment and skyrocketing prices of essential commodities have made life almost unbearable for most Indians and Pakistanis, not just Kashmiris.
Kashmiris are thus showing the path ahead to all Indians and Pakistanis in this respect.
One may recall the march of Parisian women demanding bread to Versailles in October 1789, which brought down the Bourbon dynasty, and the demonstrations for bread in St Petersburg in February 1917 which brought down the Romanovs.
    (2) The second significance of these protests is that in many places slogans were shouted ” We want freedom from Pakistan ”, and in some places even  Indian flags were hoisted.
To my mind, this marks the beginning of the realisation among Pakistani people that in fact India and Pakistan ( and Bangladesh ) are really one nation, sharing the same culture, which were one for 500 years ( since the time of Mughal Emperor Akbar ). Partition of India in 1947 was a British swindle, on the basis of the bogus two nation theory, perpetrated by the British through their agents Gandhi and Jinnah, and must be undone.
The aim of Partition was to keep Hindus and Muslims fighting each other so that we remain weak and backward, and not emerge as a modern industrial giant, of which we have all the potential, and thus become another China, a big rival to Western industry with our cheap labour. ( as explained in the video below )
Unless we reunify under a secular government and with modern minded leaders we can never emerge as a modern industrial giant, but will remain condemned to massive poverty and unemployment, appalling level of child malnourishment, skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, lack of proper healthcare and good education for the masses, etc
The brave Kashmiris, showing magnificent and unwearied fighting spirit, undaunted by all odds, are giving much needed leadership and guidance to the people of the entire Indian subcontinent.
Long live the brave and courageous people of Kashmir, who have hearts of tigers !
No amount of military jackboots can cow down such valiant and indomitable people
    Justice Katju
  • Long live Ali Amin Gandapur

    Long live Ali Amin Gandapur

Ali Amin Gandapur is the Chief Minister of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ( KP ) in Pakistan, and belongs to former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, the PTI.
His recent fiery defiant speech has not only aroused the people of KP but also the whole of Pakistan
Ali Amin Gandapur is a Pathan.  Pathans were originally from Afghanistan, though now they are found in large numbers in Pakistan and India too.
Pathans are a brave people, who cannot be hectored or pushed around by anyone. Their land was invaded by Alexander the Great, the Moghul Empire, the British Empire, the Russians, and the Americans, but they never surrendered, and instead made their country a graveyard of invaders.

About Pathans there is a saying that if you give a Pathan respect, he will jump into a well if you tell him to without a second thought. But if you do not give him respect, and try to bully or cow him down, he will not listen to anything you say.

In Rambo III an Afghan tells Rambo a popular saying : ” May God deliver us from the venom of the Cobra, teeth of the tiger, and the vengeance of the Afghan. Do you know what that means ? “.

To which Rambo replies ” That you people don’t take any shit “.

So I often tell my Pathan friends ( and I have many ) ” You Pathans are a bit manphira ( crazy ) ”.

Ali Amin Gandapur also seems a bit manphira. But there is no doubt that he is a brave man who cannot be intimidated by anyone.

His leader Imran Khan, and his PTI party has the support of probably 90% Pakistanis ( as all opinion polls show ), but by a rigged election in February the Pakistan army, which really rules Pakistan, installed the corrupt PDM in power, with Shahbaz Sharif as Prime Minister. However, despite their best effort they could not prevent the PTI from coming to power in KP.

If the Pakistan Establishment thinks it can lord it over the Pathans and Ali Amin Gandapur, and subject them to their tyranny, they are forgetting their history. They are forgetting what Pathans did to Alexander the Great, the Moghuls, the British, the Russians, and the Americans.

  • The Crisis in Pakistan’s Judiciary

    The Crisis in Pakistan’s Judiciary

6 Judges of the Islamabad High Court have written a letter to the Supreme Court Judicial Council of Pakistan, whose head is the Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, complaining of the interference in their work, threats, and snooping on them by Pakistan’s Intelligence Agencies

The lawyers have called a convention to discuss this brazen attack on the independence of the judiciary

For quite some time it has been noticed in Pakistan that Court orders are not obeyed. For instance, the order of the Supreme Court to hold elections for the Punjab Legislative Assembly on 14th May, 2023, was simply thrown into the waste paper basket.

    https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/pakistan/pak-parliament-rejects-sc-order-to-conduct-snap-polls-in-punjab/articleshow/99311033.cms

The latest revelations in the letter of 6 Hon’ble Judges of the Islamabad High Court shows brazen interference by the executive with the judiciary.

This takes us into the question why have a judiciary at all ?

It is in the nature of things that in every society, in all ages, there were, and will be, some disputes between the people, or between the people and the authorities. Hence there has to be a forum for peaceful resolution of these disputes, on the basis of some established principles, by professional experts who are conversant with these principles, known as Judges, otherwise they will be resolved violently by guns, bombs, swords, or lathis. Hence the purpose of a judiciary is to preserve peace in society.

A person presents his case in court, as does his adversary, and then the judge gives his verdict. Even if a party loses, he has the satisfaction that he was given a hearing, and this pacifies him to some extent.

But this presumes that the Judge was honest, impartial, and independent. In Pakistan, unfortunately, these features are missing. An example of this is the clearly dishonest verdict of the 3 Judge bench of the Pakistan Supreme Court, presided over by the Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, which deprived Imran Khan’s PTI party of its symbol

    https://indicanews.com/justice-markandey-katju-four-glaring-flaws-in-pakistan-supreme-court-judgment/

A Pakistani journalist, Sohrab Barkat, of the social media forum siasat.pk, who is based in Islamabad, asked me what I would have done in this situation had I been the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

I told him I would have taken a very tough stand. I would have closed down all courts in Pakistan until the government gives a solemn assurance that it will obey court orders ( subject of course to provisions for review, or appeal to a higher court ), and will respect the independence of the judiciary.

I would have also sent to jail for contempt of court those who defied court orders, however high the person or persons may be

Unfortunately the former CJP Bandial, and the present CJP Qazi Faez Isa, have proved to be spineless in this regard, and the latter has proved to be servile to the Pakistan Establishment, and a disgrace to the judiciary, like a modern Judge Jeffreys.

  • Justice Katju Urges Joint Holi Celebrations in Pakistan and Bangladesh

Justice Katju Urges Joint Holi Celebrations in Pakistan and Bangladesh

Holi, the festival of colour, is falling on 25th March this year. I appeal to Pakistanis and Bangladeshis of all communities to celebrate it together.

Justice Katju Urges Joint Holi Celebrations in Pakistan and Bangladesh

Before 1857 Hindus would participate in Eid and Muharram, and Muslims in Holi and Diwali together, and there was no communal feeling among them. There were no communal riots or animosity till that time.

In 1857 the Great Mutiny broke out, in which Hindus and Muslims jointly fought against the British. After suppressing the Mutiny the British decided that the only way to control and rule over India was divide and rule, that is, create animosity between Hindus and Muslims

I may here give a historical account of an incident which occurred before 1857

Inn the reign of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Avadh, the capital of which was Lucknow, Muharram and Holi once fell on the same day. Muharram is an occasion of ghami or sorrow (for Imam Husain, grandson of the Prophet and his 72 followers who were killed in the battle of Karbala by the forces of the tyrant Yazid) while Holi is an occasion of celebration (the festival of colours, marking the beginning of spring).

The Hindus of Lucknow decided not to celebrate Holi that year out of respect for the sentiments of their Muslim brothers and sisters, who were in grief.

The Nawab took out the tazia from the Bada Imambada in Lucknow in a procession and buried it in Karbala, a site in Lucknow with the same name as the place where Imam Husain was martyred. Having done so, he asked why people were not playing Holi. After being told the reason, the Nawab said that since our Hindu brethren have respected the sentiments of Muslims, it is also the duty of the Muslims to respect the sentiments of Hindus, and declared that Holi must be played the same day. And he was the first to start playing Holi and it was played all over Avadh by both Hindus and Muslims, although it was also Muharram.

The Moghuls and other Muslim rulers and their subjects ( including Muslims ) would celebrate and play Holi with great gusto. There are many accounts and paintings to prove this, as given below.

    https://indianexpress.com/article/opinion/columns/in-good-faith-holi-mughal-era-colours-hindu-festival-muslim-culture-5663983/

After 1857 the British, through their local agents, propagated the idea that Holi was only a Hindu festival, and it was unislamic to celebrate it,  and so many Muslims stopped playing it.

It is high time now that this false propaganda be put an end to, and all people in the Indian subcontinent again start celebrating each others festivals, including Holi, which is a symbol of our composite ‘Ganga Jamuna tehzeeb’

In this connection, here is my interview by my Pakistani friend, Sajjad Azhar Pirzada, a journalist based in Lahore, on Holi

Here is a beautiful poem on Holi by the great Urdu poet, Nazir Akbaradi

And here are some Pakistani youth, both Hindu and Muslim, celebrating Holi

I was pained to learn that a few years back the Pakistan Higher Education Commission banned Holi celebrations in Universities, calling them ‘Unislamic’, when students of Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad ( both Hindus and Mulims ) celebrated it.

I appeal to Pakistani ( and Bangladeshi ) youth, particularly Muslims, to defy such a silly ban if it is again imposed this year, and jointly celebrate Holi this year with their Hindu brothers and sisters, with great enthusiasm, fervour and verve, and thus give a blow to religious bigotry, which is plaguing our sub continent.

  • Israeli Move Sparks Second Nakba in Gaza, Prompting Global Concerns Over Humanitarian Crisis and Escalating Regional Tensions

Israeli Move Sparks Second Nakba in Gaza, Prompting Global Concerns Over Humanitarian Crisis and Escalating Regional Tensions

Nakba‘ ( catastrophe ) is the name given to the exodus of about 700,000 Palestinian Arabs in 1948 from the present territory of Israel, who fled out of fear after many were massacred by Israelis, including women and children.

IIsraeli Move Sparks Second Nakba in Gaza, Prompting Global Concerns Over Humanitarian Crisis and Escalating Regional Tensions
    Gaza

    https://www.aljazeera.com/features/2017/5/23/the-nakba-did-not-start-or-end-in-1948

Before Israel was established as a state, about 90% people living there were Arabs. Due to the Nakba only about 20% were left. The remaining fled to Jordan, the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, etc, and their descendants are still living there in horrible conditions.

Now after the events of 7th October, when Hamas attacked Israel, and the Israelis struck back, and the Israeli government’s announcement that people living in northern Gaza must move to the south within 24 hours as Israeli forces are going to move in there , a second Nakba has started, from north Gaza to the south.

    https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinians-gaza-evacuation-history-nakba-a1bec1ee3477573e80b39b4044a48111

    https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/10/14/a-second-nakba-echoes-of-1948-as-israel-orders-palestinians-to-leave#:~:text=here%20to%20search-,’A%20second%20Nakba’%3A%20Echoes%20of%201948%2C%20as%20Israel,would%20rather%20die%20at%20home.

Gaza is a tiny coastal strip of land, 25 miles long and 7 miles wide, heavily congested with about 2.2 million people.

Now half the population, i.e. over 1 million people living in northern Gaza, have been told to move to the south.

But where will they go ? Where is the housing, food, water, electricity etc for them ? And what will they do there ? Where are the jobs for them ? The Israeli order will convert the southern part of Gaza, which is already congested, into another Warsaw Ghetto during Nazi rule, deprived of essentials. And it will convert the majority of citizens of Gaza, who were hitherto peaceful, into militants, and make them join Hamas. As is said in Hindi ” Marta kya nahi karta ” ( A person facing death can do anything ). So far from solving any problems, this new step by the israelis will multiply them manifold.

The Israeli government claims that this step was necessary because Hamas launches missiles on Israel from northern Gaza, and since the missile sites are hidden in civilian buildings, it is impossible to destroy them without collateral; damage. So Israeli forces have started moving into northern Gaza, and the civilian population there has been told to move southwards.

But this Israeli step is likely to be counter productive, for the following reasons :

    (1) It is an overkill to the Hamas attack of 7th October, and will revive another ‘intifada’ generally in the region.

    https://www.britannica.com/topic/intifada

Israeli planes have destroyed many apartment buildings containing civilians ( and allegedly even a huge hospital ), and killed over 10,000 people, many of them children.

I am reminded of an interview I saw of Bill Erhart, a Vietnam war veteran, who said ( see the full interview below) ” The notion I had in High School was that the Vietcong terrorised the Vietnamese population and forced them to fight against the Americans on pain of death. What I began to understand in Vietnam was that they did not need to do that. All they had to do was to let a marine patrol go through a village, and what was left of the village gave them all the recruits they needed ”.

    (2) In Gaza specifically, it will increase militancy against Israel, as more and more people there will join Hamas out of desperation and vengeance for the thousands killed in the recent hostilities.

    (3) Till now while Hamas had ruled only Gaza, the much larger West Bank, which had been conquered by the Israelis after the 1967 war, was ruled by the relatively moderate PLO ( Palestine Liberation Organisation ) headed by Mahmoud Abbas. Now more and more Palestinians living in the West Bank, who were fed up of being displaced by Israeli settlers, will switch their support to Hamas, and it will become the defacto ruler of the West Bank, instead of the PLO ( whose leaders are perceived by many Palestinians as being hand in glove with Western powers ). So the West Bank, which was largely quiet till now, will, like Gaza, become another hotbed of insurgency.

    (4) There are broadly two coalitions of powers in the world today (a) the coalition of Western powers led by USA and including most European countries, and (b) the coalition of Russia, China and Iran. The former are overtly supporting Israel and giving it weapons and other supplies, while the latter are covertly supporting Hamas, and giving it weapons and other supplies.

Both coalitions are increasing supply of weapons etc to the ones they back, and this will naturally increase militancy in the region

I fear that the situation is going to get worse, and spread to neighbouring regions, and no one can predict when and how it will end, and how many will be the casualties. Probably we are in for the long haul.

  • Mounting Tensions in Pakistan: Army’s Grip on Elections Sparks Fears of Unrest and Turmoil

Mounting Tensions in Pakistan: Army’s Grip on Elections Sparks Fears of Unrest and Turmoil

The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced that elections to Pakistan’s Parliament will be held in the last week of January, 2024.

    https://northmcd.com/pakistan-general-election-date/

The question is whether they will be free and fair ?

Presently 90-95% of Pakistanis support former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his PTI party ( as all opinion polls indicate ), and if free and fair elections are held the PTI will sweep the polls.

However, the Pakistan army, which is the real ruler of Pakistan, is determined not to allow Imran Khan to become the Prime Minister again, and has incarcerated him in jail, and seems determined not to let him come out alive

    https://indicanews.com/the-crimes-of-imran-khan/.

This means that the army is determined not to permit free and fair elections, and for this it will either not permit the PTI to contest at all, or will rig the elections heavily.

The army has brought back former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with great fanfare to Pakistan, and is evidently determined to foist him as the next Prime Minister, though he is hated by the vast majority of Pakistanis, who regard him and his family corrupt ( as the Panama Papers and other evidence proves ).

    https://www.hastakshepnews.com/2023/10/nawaz-sharifs-return-will-set-pakistani.html

In this situation it seems to me obvious that since the people have been denied all rights, and a reign of terror has been unleashed against them by the Pakistan army, a people’s guerilla war against the army is inevitable, as it happened in the early stages of the American War of Indepence, in Spain during Napoleonic rule, in Vietnam during French and American rule, in Afghanistan during Soviet and later under American rule, in Algeria during French rule, and in France ( by the Maquis ) during Nazi occupation, etc. Wherever there is oppression, a resistance is bound to arise.

An army can fight another army, it cannot fight the masses. A tiger can kill a prey, it cannot kill a swarm of mosquitoes. The army officers who are presently trampling over the Pakistani people do not realise they are playing with fire.

An angry populace, whose kith and kin have been murdered or tortured and jailed, once aroused can go to any lengths, and then the conventional rules of warfare will be thrown to the winds.

The army officers may feel safe in their guarded houses, but their families are bound to be exposed, by the wives coming out for shopping, social visits etc and the children going to school or college, etc, and then they may be targets of people seeking revenge.

Dark days are ahead in Pakistan

  • The ‘crimes’ of Imran Khan

    The ‘crimes’ of Imran Khan

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was deposed in April 2022, and later arrested, and has been confined since early August in a tiny, dingy cell in jail with few amenities.

About 180 criminal cases have been foisted against him, so that if he is acquitted in one, he will be rearrested in another, the intention being not to let him come out of jail alive throughout his remaining life.

And what are his crimes ? Ostensibly it is alleged that he took toshakhana gifts without paying fully for them, that he was involved in a cypher crime, etc.

But his real ‘crimes’, for which he is being punished, are very different. It is a long list.

    1. After the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers in 2001, US President Bush  decided to invade Afghanistan, and declared ” Those who are not with us, are against us ”.

At that time Gen Musharraf was the ruler of Pakistan ( having staged a military coup in 1999 ), and to save his own skin he supported the US invasion, though Pakistan had friendly relations with Afghanistan, and the Afghans had never done any harm to Pakistan.

Imran Khan strongly opposed Pakistan support to the US invasion of Afghanistan, saying this was not our war, and that Pakistan paid a very heavy price for it. 70,000 Pakistanis were killed in this war, and Pakistan’s fragile economy suffered a loss of a staggering 150 billion dollars.

    2. Imran Khan has said Pakistan will never again be a US partner in a war. He denounced the ‘idiocy’ of becoming a front line state in US led wars

    3. While he was Prime Minister he went to Russia to get a deal on import of oil, when the war against Ukraine was going on. This naturally angered the Americans, who were strongly supporting Ukraine.

All this has antagonised the US Govt, and the Pakistan army which follows instructions from the former, has accordingly incarcerated Imran Khan on various trumped up charges.

It may be mentioned that the real ruler in Pakistan is its army, but the senior Pakistan army officers are all beholden to USA and do its bidding. Apart from direct financial gratification which they might be getting secretly, their children are having high paying jobs in the World Bank, IMF or some multinational corporation, or given admissions with full scholarship in Ivy League Colleges like Harvard or Yale.

Antagonising the USA is the real ‘crime’ of Imran Khan, for which he is paying the price confined in Adiala jail in wretched conditions, and time alone will tell whether a ZA Bhutto will be done to him
